Just curious about how long did it take you to build?  Also do you have the viking village?  I have the viking village and haven't built it yet and was wondering if the size is comparable.

I don’t have the Viking Village yet, but I figure this one took a little over 6 hours. I took my time and enjoyed the process, but there was quite a bit to it.

Cool I'm planning on getting the Town Square but I'm waiting to see the DnD set and see if I want to get that one first and then the Town Square or get the Town Square first.  Planning on building the viking village this weekend.

The first photo there made me think the scaling differences weren't too bad with the Blacksmith, but the second photo of them together really highlights the discrepancy. For me, they don't work together, but I do love the detail of the blacksmith, so not going to complain.

The castle and MTS look great together though.

Yeah, the Blacksmith's one flaw is that it doesn't fit with anything Castle scale-wise XD

Yeah. I'm honestly debating selling my Blacksmith toward the new markets and potentially D&D. The markets fit better with the Castle 10305, and I don't need/want to have a ton of castle stuff.

Those comparison photos are great! The Blacksmith is definitely larger than the other sets, and was clearly designed as a stand-alone build rather than one that would accompany these later sets. It's not so large that it couldn't believably exist in the same universe, but in ideal circumstances I probably wouldn't display them side by side in a layout (especially since the Blacksmith strikes me as the sort of building that might be a little more remote rather than near the center of town (in reality, of course, my display space is kinda limited so my medieval stuff will probably be displayed close together on a shelf, despite how I'd prefer it if I had the space for a larger layout).

The Medieval Town Square also scales very nicely to the Medieval Market Village, despite the difference in their level of detail! Awesome to see the difference that 15 years makes!

When I finally get the town square (holding off mainly 'cuz my birthday's coming up and IDK if anyone in my family might be planning on getting it for me as a gift), I will most likely be displaying both it and the castle folded closed for the aforementioned space reasons. But I will have plenty of time to figure out what works best.

I think it can be made to work, with a bit of creative storytelling and maybe a small redecorate.  For example, make it no longer a blacksmith, but the home of the rich guy in town, maybe the tax collector.  Or maybe it's the queen's country cottage.  Then it's scale seems appropriate rather than imposing.  Or it's the wealthy merchant's building, shop on the bottom, warehouse on top.

Lots of ways to make it work.  It's only because it is so much larger than the other craftspeople's buildings that it feels too big, IMO.  Maybe the blacksmith is just renting the lower floor from a wealthy patron.  Or maybe it can be the inn that other factions use when they visit for negotiations.  Or maybe a barracks for spare soldiers or a quartermaster's building.  Then blacksmith makes sense, since he's supplying the army and probably works for the QM anyway, or rents the space out because it's a great location to sell to soldiers.

Add a few mini-MOCs and a few figures to tell the story you want and it feels right sized, is I guess my point.  That's the beauty of the brick, after all.  It can be what you want it to be.  The alt-build ideas are pretty endless.

Looking at the Bricklink prices for the gray goat I really hope it becomes available on pick a brick. Lego could charge more than a cow and it would still be a bargain!

I am sure it will, however a price close to the expensive cow would be crazy. If it cost much more than the pig/sheep it would be a cash grab from Lego to take advantage of the demand in the part.

When can we expect the next goat? I was even guessing we would get a goat kid in this set, at least a couple of goats, but no. The only place I can see it pop up is like a patronus in HP, Dino-bait in JP or a City farm set..

Goat yoga!  But that seems more likely for Friends line.

Perhaps a mountain vacation scene?  Or City landscapers?

My logic on the Blacksmith set is the fact that it feels like it was made to be on a hillside, the first floor is sub basement, that’s just me though 😬

Do we need more?  We've now got 3 colors of goat, seems like plenty to me.

I finally got my copy of the set in hand, and the minifigures are absolutely amazing.  The old woman in the dark red skirt might be my favorite, she's at least as nice as the light blue cas490 from Mill Village Raid.  And the tan peasant boy torso is a close runner-up.

I mean, one of those three colors is long retired. And none of them are a great match for goats with a brownish coat. Beyond that, it wouldn't hurt to see even the two current goat colors in more sets, even if there's no particular urgency for it.

My backstory is that the Blacksmith asked for an old, unused, manor in return for a major solid he did the Black Falcon leader.

That's why it isn't in the best repair.

Just finished this build. Looks great and a fun build. I noticed the envelope has a dragon stamp?? Is lego hinting at something?

Only one of the envelopes. The other two have a lion -and falcon stamp (as far as I can see).

Yeah but that could be hinting either a dragon masters or black knights set possibly in the future as we already have sets for the black falcons and lion knights.  We can only hope for some dragon masters or black knights sets at this point.

We did discuss this a bit a while ago but while this is not impossible to happen, it could also just mean it is the designers favourite faction for instance.

They are hinting on the black knights, rather than the dragon masters - both had the same big shield in different colours but the dragon on the small shield that only the black knights had looks different from that one - and when we are looking at the letter, the dragon they used their is a lot more similar to the small rather than the big shield.

Black Knights would make a lot more sense to follow, while some Dragon Masters and Black Knights shared 1993 in a few sets limited to North America , and many similarities in appearance like plumes and some shields (1995 and 1996 used Black Knights shield prints for Dragon Masters) , Black Knights still appeared 4 years earlier (Which might not sound like much on paper, but back then, there were no large gaps between releases yet)

Lore wise, I imagine Dragon Masters as a split-off from Black Knights, under command of the Wizard. (magic to control dragons seems to play a role many followup castle subthemes, Witch in Fright Knights and Wizards are shown multiple times after, either good or evil, with or against factions that have dragons) , even the Bull Knights from 2000 were later shown in a 2006 set which included a wizard.

Also would make sense with the now re-appearance of Wolfpack again, which existed exactly during the Black Knights era 1992-1993 (Black Knights mainly 1989-1992, with the already mentioned exclusive 1993 sets in NA) .

I think a bigger focus on Dragon Masters would go better with Royal Knights, Dark Forest and eventually Fright Knights. (Dark Forest was mostly NA Exclusive but a Dark Forest figure shows up in 6087: Witch's Magic Manor)

Those new double doors seen in mario could work well for a 6082: Fire Breathing Fortress or 1906: Majisto's Tower however, but also 6090: Royal Knight's Castle.

But in the near future, I think a Wolfpack Tower or some Black Knight Castle variant would come before those.

Brickstars recently posted a video about the black knights and showed how Lego updated the black knights shield in the LKC instructions. If they were willing to redesign the shield, surely they would use it for more than just a non-essential part of the instruction manuel? After the LKC teases, the new envelope seal, and the Wolfpack returning, it seems certain a black knight’s set is in the works.

Lego Icons was one of top 5 bestselling Lego themes in 2023. I am sure a lot of it was flowers, but should be positive for future Castle, Pirates etc sets as well :pir-triumph:
