I messaged BrickClicker for clarification.  This was his response

For the past month or so I'd been hearing $215 and recently euro and US prices are different sometimes so I imagine it's $215 but 230euro :(

I kind of agree it's a bit low considering the amount of minis present in the set.  But I mean, it really should be packed.  I felt the LKC was a bit overpriced for what we got out of it, considering we didn't even get a proper Majisto.  I could see the LKC price being inflated because of all the new prints and molds involved ,whereas this new Market Square benefits from the LKC already paving the way.  I'm really hoping it's decently priced, because I'm really not looking forward to anything over $300 CAD ($229 USD)

It was first rumoured to cost 350€, so yeah, that price would have been much better. For me it kinda feels like now that the overall prices went back down again a bit, the Lego sets coming now do seem better priced again (with some exceptions of course). But yeah, especially with the increased price its quite sad the Wizard didn´t got any print at all.

However the explanation from Brick Clicker seems unlikely to me. Because usually, as the $ "costs" more than the € and so the US Price should be the higher one, not the €.

LKC was in a weird spot because it came out right after all Lego prices went up.  So the previous rumored price could have been accurate as a pre-inflation price.

Hopefully the cheaper price is a result of the Feb survey.  Especially since these aren't liscenced themes.

The thing is I don´t think the survey works like how much would you pay for this set? And then they will sell it for that. More likely they would say, oh yeah, for that they would like to have it. So that´s the budged. I really hope they didn´t remove any minifig or animal from it due to the results from that.

Just imagine you would read an designer interview some time after the release of the set, and a designer is asked about the goat there and says: "Oh, we actually had it in there, but after a survey made for the price point, they cut the budged of the set by 10€, so we had to let the goat go". ;)

Agreed, I mean at this price point the 15 Euro isn´t that much anyways. So as long as the animals included are worth it, I am fine with that.

That was literally the point of the survey

https://9to5toys.com/2023/02/01/lego-marketing-report-jabba-sail-barge/

Today’s news comes to us from a 9to5Toys reader, who previously completed a market survey from the LEGO Group asking questions about interesting and pricing of various sets. We can also confirm that this is a different person than Eurobricks Forum user JeanGreyForever, an individual whose report sites like PromoBricks used to first run the story. So now in addition to that information, we can now further attest that there’s some extra validity to report.

Detailed in the survey, the LEGO Group was asking individuals for opinions on sets that have already hit store shelves, as well as some still under development. Participants in the survey were not specifically LEGO builders themselves, but selected out for being in a certain demographic. We’re just lucky that the reader who reached out happen to be a builder themselves. Throughout the survey, individuals were asked to look at models and then note how much they’d be willing to spend on each within a specified price range.

Wouldn't likely happen since the budgets for these sets would likely already be set and done to even get to the point of presentation.  The content (ie how many animals, how many minifigs) within the prelim/prototypes should be considered final, while the details of what prints of what pieces could be in there could still change.  This would have been set well before they gave it to Marketting for the survey.  The survey is just another datapoint for pricing for what they've already committed to, and I doubt it would change any of the content in the actual sets.

As noted above, the survey would have provided a specified price range.  Meaning TLG would have already factored in development and budget into the price point.  I see no reason why they would offer price ranges well below what their budget allows that results in arbitrary cuts to the product.  All that is usually factored in during the development process, not to the point of marketting.  Even the decision to go with printing or stickers would likely be something decided on earlier than not.

It is a good point, like I have said before if the LKC came out now with all the prints and parts they brought with them in circulation the set would have rather different details. However some must be first and the medieval square could benefit a lot from this, not only from LKC, but all the animals that are available now. They can bring back the goat and maybe a goat kid, if not CMF help them with that, LKC got help from 2 CMF figs after all. The rest of the animals are already on the marked free for the taking to use them as they are or maybe give a few of them a re-color :moar: Should leave plenty of budget for prints on figs and maybe some shield and a new barding for forestmen or raven knights

I remember the designers talking about some of the pricing budget going to new molds for LKC.  I think the two outstanding ones I can think of was the new arch piece, and the bardings that are workable with modern horses.  Other than that, I could imagine a lot of the budget also going to new prints, since we have the new lion logo on banners, shields and torsos, and all the classic Yellow Castle shields with prints.

Market Square has new fern pieces which are already shown in some other sets like Rivendell, so it doesn't eat the part price.  At most I can see it adding in the cost of the Goat mold.  I heard rumblings about there being an alternate sheep, and I can see in the leak image that the second sheep looks different, but I'm not sure whether that would be a new mold or recolor.

I'd also love to see a new barding for Forestmen, or at least something that is more neutral towards greens and browns that could also be used for other factions like Wolfpack.

Well, I heard one person mentioning it here. But honestly, I just don´t see it in the pictures. For me it looks like there are just two adult sheeps as we had them in the farm. Which actually surpised me is, that there is no lamb in the set. Anyways, the second sheep just stands in a slightly different angle, with a watermark covering most of the black colour of its head.

I think most of the budged for the set will go to the goat, hopefully new shields and also hopefully to the minifigs. I expect there to be no stickers in the set, so I also would think a nice shield for the tavern at least. Maybe an other for the shield smith?

I also hope, that they don´t reuse all the civilian parts from the Castle. Knight and Forestmen are fine, but I really hope for some more diversity in civilian designs.

You could be right about that, I just noticed now the watermark could be what's making the sheep look different.  That would be good if the only new part is the Goat mold, and hopefully the price remains on the lower side.

I don't like the Jester using more of the bard CMF torso and I hope that changes.  I also wish the 'Crook' gets a nod to Wolfpack, similar to the little Wolfpack badge the Rogue CMF has.  Something subtle would be fantastic.

The bardings where not new! However they and a lot of other parts had to be brought back into circulation and that cost more of the budget that using available parts.

I agree, but could be wrong since the picture are of such low quality.. There is a lone lamb in LKC so that would make sense to include there if they planned to include two adults here :shrug_oh_well:

I wonder which horse they would include, the new white one would be better than those in the Castle and I really like the new foal so a re-colour of that would be great, however it was not in the prelim so small chances for that..

It wouldn´t have surprised me if the crook would have just been a forestmen, but in the survey pic it doesn´t look like that, although he is wearing the head. Could be a dark forest forestmen though. And yeah, I already disliked that they used that torso for the child in the medieval castle.

Actually does, yeah. I forgot about that one.

Well the survey pic had a Dark Orange one, but actually would hope for a new interpretation of the horse from the Mill Set. Though I don´t see that happening honestly. So yeah, with Dark Orange and Tan already in the castle, reddish brown would make most sense. Or the white one you mentioned, though I missed that one, which set is it in?

Was wondering about the white horse too, since someone mentioned it before.  Couldn’t find it and forgot, but just looked after this reminder and found it on the bricklink parts list.  It is in set 76266.  But there is no printing on it.

Ah, didn't know they appeared back in 2013 sets

Ah yeah, forgot about that. Well, the others don´t have much printing either and as long as it has eyes, which it does it is enough for me.

A new one would be best of course (the black one have not received much love from Lego the last 10 years), second best the white one even if that most likely will show up on PAB or the reddish brown would be fine (apparently it is in circulation, but have not been in any normal set for some time).

It has printing, but no harness so it can be used as grazing horse in a enclosure (or a wild horse) 🙂

The redish brown one is in a serious play set, so that is why it is still around - no idea why they don´t put it in a normal set though.

Anyway kinda sad they have 5 different horses for friends (I mean I can understand why, just not why we can´t have more too) but only three for system. Or had 3 on pick a brick, the reddish brown one just disappeared for me.

Actually comparing it with Mill village raid that had 2 new animal moulds in 3 different colors and 2 old moulds in new colors I expect some animals in new colors.
Which animals do you think get new colors in the set?
My first guess would be the sheep, to get a "black sheep of the family" Pigs and piglets with spots if they had been in the set, but since they where not in the prelim that is less likely I guess :def_shrug: I assume the goat will come in a new color as well

The sheep makes sense, as does the cow or horse; I can also see the Smowl getting a recolour, as though it was not shown in the prelim, it would be an easy reuse of a new part.

Smowl s a good guess to make an appearance! I think there where 3 flying owls in the prelim, but no way they include that many, maybe a flying owl, a smowl and a falcon instead :shrug_oh_well:

The falcon mould may not exist anymore (as it has only been seen in a CMF); maybe perched owl, flying owl, and Smowl?

A lot of parts make the move from CMF to other things like normal sets and BAM these days so I do not think that is a problem if the designers want it. They do not throw away expensive moulds on a whim, but think I have heard that most CMF parts are produced in China, so if a set producing factory elsewhere needs to include it is a set, maybe they must make a new one then (of course identical to the first one so should not be that expensive compared to make a completely new part) :classic:

Also possible, but 3 owls is a lot in a set not even most HP sets are close to that these days:tongue: If we assume that animals around that size cost the same to include I would rather they swap a owl for a another farm animal or maybe a hare etc instead :shrug_oh_well:

I know, but I feel like LEGO could have included the falcon in the A-frame cabin or a City set if they intended to keep it around. I do hope that I am wrong, though!

Most Minifig-scale HP sets are not $215-$230, though (and Diagon Alley had at least three, IIRC). A hare is possible, but a bit too much of a wild animal for a town square set.

It does seem likely to me, that if they want to include the Falcon in a set, they might just produce all of them in china and ship them over rather than making moulds for other factories aswell. So IMO it will come for sure, the question is just, when and where :).

I have the same feeling, but in a set clearly focused on animals I wonder if that is because I have seen the prelim and assume the menagerie lineup is similar to that :shrug_oh_well:

I had a dream during the night that I found a Lego catalogue of some sort that had 3-4 pages dedicated to this set, unfortunately no picture of the set, but mostly text with a few sketches of ideas for parts of the set. I was about to start reading the text when I woke up so that was a bummer and I have no inside information to share with you today:tongue::laugh:

Recognised Fan Media sites have not reported it or in some cases removed the info they posted about the set, so it probably means they know more than they can say at the moment.. Would not be surprised it they have seen the set in all its glory already during Fan media days in September, would have liked to be a fly on the wall there for sure
