I had a dream during the night that I found a Lego catalogue of some sort that had 3-4 pages dedicated to this set, unfortunately no picture of the set, but mostly text with a few sketches of ideas for parts of the set. I was about to start reading the text when I woke up so that was a bummer and I have no inside information to share with you today:tongue::laugh:

A few weeks ago, I had a dream that night - I was allowed to ahve a sneak peek at a next Modular Building and I immediately loved it and then…woke up. Darn it all!

Ah well… I can’t wait to see offical reveals of both the modular museum and this medieval village sets!!

This discussion fits better here, as it pertains solely to the market set.

So I'm disassembling my Lion Knight Castle before a house move and I come across this particular line in the Majisto commentary that is peppered through the instruction book (Book 1 page 2014):

"This bell will do well to warn the townsfolk if the wolfpack marauders should one day return.."

Most likely nothing.. buuuut if this is going to be a medieval "townsfolk" set - and would already have been in development near the finalisation of 10305 and instruction layout -  Well maybe they dropped that particular line in as a hint that we'll see some Wolfpack in here to attack the village instead of the expected knights.

One can dream of updated wolfpack torso prints.

While I would not put much stock in the LKC instruction commentary (as they included references to all classic Castle subthemes), we are getting a “crook” Minifig in the village. The prelim has a Minifig with a Forestmen’s cap, so this could just be describing Forestmen/Dark Forest, but Wolfpack is a definite possibility.

I’d love it to be a member of the Wolfpack. Failing that, a different coloured forestman would also provide a bit of variety. But Wolfpack would be a great choice!

I think we don´t have to dream about them, they will come. Likely not yet, but I am sure we will see them within the next years if they keep doing retro sets. Anyways I wouldn´t take it as a hint, since it is quite likely, it is just a reference to past lego themes (and actually it is quite hard to guess whether something was included as a hint, just as reference to old themes, or because one of the designerns would love to see them back.

I think it will just be the forstmen. Would actually be cool if we get a new tose print for that one at least, but I doubt we will see a wolfpack. Also, I think if they were going to include the wolfpack, there would be more than one of them.

I agree - Wolfpack Renegades is just begging to be remade as a GWP!

Not only as GWP. Also as set. I would love to see their tower as a set.

The tower is somewhat of a weird size, though; too big for a GWP, but too small for a $100+ set. I can see a scaled-up version, or maybe a Castle combo pack of sorts with a collection of smaller builds.

I can see them doing both actually. To make a bigger version for something like 150€ or to make a set for less. I mean it would be good if we also had sets in the range of 50 (doesn´t have to be the tower) or 80-100€ I can certainly see them doing a nice tower for that price range.

I just realised that if LEGO gives Majisto an updated version of his classic torso design, then they could probably just reprint it onto a green torso for a Forestman. Alternatively, they could reuse the LKC farmer’s torso print on a green torso.

Maybe pairing it with an updated Sea Serpent, similarly to the Eldorado Fortress remake? 🤔

Well that could work too. I was actually meaning the blue Foresmen Version - but the more different ones the better ;).

Since both Sets have literally nothing to do with each other I highly doubt that would happen. I mean sure, the tower has some water but aside from that?

That would also work (swapping the red print for blue)!

I was trying to think of how the set could be expanded while still retaining the general size of the original tower (as opposed to making as big as the LKC or even the Creator 3-in-1); the tower is built over water, so the knights could be trying to retrieve their stolen gold (or something to that effect for the narrative of the set).

The Wolfpack had only like 3 sets and not one of them stand out to me so maybe it is better to include the minifigs in another set only? Since we get the medieval town square set now that I have been waiting 12 years for I am running out of sets to wish for from Lego  I am sure this set will sell a lot so they will make another retro Castle set,  but what will it be? Forestmen is my first guess, some kind of tournament set maybe, not sure what else, but no Wolfpack D2C I think..

Can you make one for this set as well? There is even a prelim out there so might be even closer with the final set

Perhaps I'm going against the grain here but I'm disappointed that there appears to be rogues/knights in the village set. Knights are uniformed and the parts readily available on PAB, so it's not like every one of us has the army of Lion Knights and Black Falcons we want already, but it feels like every minifigure-at-arms is taking the place of a civilian in what's supposed to be a civilian set. Especially rankling when medieval civilian minifigures have always been lacking.

Posted

That's a fair comment and I'd certainly prefer more civilian figures, but I can equally see them wanting to clearly tie sets together, and also make something complete if you only buy one set. So having a knight to be kitted out by the armourer is a good play scenario.

Posted

The way I see it, I want the set to include exactly one of each minifigure part. The more variety, the better, because we can order however many we want. We just need them to appear in a set to be able to order them in bulk. So I'll be very happy to have a single knight appear in the set as long as it's a faction that isn't currently available. Including a lion knight or black falcon would indeed be a wasted opportunity.

I'm still doubled down on cross axes torso for the guards.

I see this set as a complete companion set to the Lion Knights Castle.  The tower is styled very similarly to the LKC, and they even fly the yellow and red flag banners, but without reusing the Lion Knights torso for the guards.  This set also has some nods to Guarded Inn and Blacksmith Shop.  Both of the those sets had Cross Axes guards, and the Inn is also named 'Broken Axes Inn' which might be another connecting hint.  Cross Axes are also very closely associated to the Lion Knights, so it would make sense as an alternative torso option.

It's always possible they go with something more generic for the guards, or something completely different, but I really think the patterns lean towards a return of the Cross Axe torso.  And if that's true, I hope they also bring in the alternative Forestmen torso if they're bringing back a more classic-updated Majisto torso print.

---

On a separate note, I've been dusting off my Fright Knights army of monsters and skeletons for Halloween.  I started thinking of tying it in as an invading army for the Medieval village.  If the set is modular enough, I think it might actually work well as a set piece for a zombie survival style tabletop/board game.  I just need to find a simple RPG system to use.  D&D ruleset might be needlessly complex for a one-shot game.

I think there is only one or two knights in the set so I don't really think it will be that big of a thing.  I'm really interested to see what shields the shieldsmith will have in his shop and interested to see if they give us a different faction instead of Lion knights or Black falcons.  If they give us a new faction of knight or at least a new torso print of the lions or BF knights I still think it's a win because at least we are getting something different.

To me this doesn't really feel much different than the crown knight minifigures in MMV or the Black Falcon minifigs in the Medieval Blacksmith. Yes, these sets are all more civilian-focused, but civilians and knights/soldiers didn't live their lives in complete isolation from one another.

And in fact, I find the presence of knights a little less galling here than in MMV. Back when that set came out, nearly ALL the preceding Castle sets were focused exclusively on knights, soldiers, and combat, so sets like it were pretty much the only source of medieval civilians. By contrast, as of today, the last few Castle models like Medieval Blacksmith, Lion Knights' Castle, and the 3-in-1 Medieval Castle have all included a mix of uniformed figures and commoners. So while most of us (even those who only recently started collecting) probably still have more knights than commoners, we're no longer completely reliant on civilian-focused sets for the latter.

Including a couple of knight minifigs also adds a variety of interesting play/storytelling scenarios to this sort of set. They could be there working as guards (for instance, keeping watch from the the tower shown in the survey image) like those in the Guarded Inn, or they could be there to do their own shopping like those in the Medieval Blacksmith, or they could be on the trail of a wanted criminal, or they could even be there to collect taxes from the commoners! It provides an opportunity for the set to explore not just the lives of the common folk, but how their lives intersect with the lives of medieval knights.

Certainly from a "new parts" standpoint, it's less exciting to get uniformed characters from established factions than to get entirely new minifigs. But at the same time, I don't know how realistic it is to look at it as if every repeat torso is a place where we could have gotten a new torso. The costs of including an existing element vs. introducing a brand new print aren't at all equivalent, so it doesn't feel realistic to assume that including fewer generic knight/soldier uniforms would mean getting more unique civilian clothes in their place (any more than to assume the same if the Ninjago City sets included fewer figs in generic ninja suits).

As I see it, the trade-off designers of sets like this are more likely to consider is "number of new minifig prints"  versus "number of new non-minifig prints". In other words, if the designers devote all their new element slots to uniquely printed minifig parts, it would leave none to spare for uniquely printed shields, flags, signs, animals, and other decorative elements. In that regard, it's hard to really pass judgment on the minifigure variety in this set until we have a better idea of what other new printed elements are included.

Yeah, while I'm a little more indifferent to the crossed axe torso than older AFOLs who were around back when it was in use (to me, there's no obvious reason in the present day that the Lion Knights need more torso variations than the Black Falcons), I can't deny it'd be a really cool callback to the Guarded Inn and Blacksmith Shop for this set to include them! It could also be an opportunity for LEGO to reuse the corresponding shield from 10305 (and presumably, these guards could still reuse the same printed legs as the existing Lion Knight figures while still providing a bit more novelty than if the uniforms were left totally as-is.

In the future, something else I'd really love to see to expand on uniform options for these established knight factions would be a "scale armor" mold inspired by this torso print. I know that traditionally, scale armor has been represented with printing rather than with a dedicated mold, but having it as a separate mold could allow you to freely apply the same scale armor color to any torso color/print/faction of your choosing (and to allow for more varied colors of scale armor) just as the molded breastplate did in contrast to its printed predecessor .

This could also potentially allow future Black Knight minifigures to get their own unique torso prints while still resembling their classic counterparts (whereas both torso patterns used for classic Black Knight minifigs were shared with figs from other factions, and they never actually got a torso print marked with their heraldry). I'm not expecting any of that with this particular set, though. It's just a fun thought I had while thinking about how modern Lion Knight and Black Falcon minifigs could be diversified further in the future without relying strictly on new faction-specific prints.

I'd say my only suspicion they are doing a new body print is because they didn't reuse the Lion Knight or Black Falcon for the leak when they already have the torsos for them available.  They went with using Viking torsos for them instead, which really questions what they're planning for the guards if not just a 1:1 Lion Knight or Black Falcon.

Okay, I have no idea in Lego canon or in real history, but what do tax collectors wear as one is rumored in MTS??  I'm assuming the minifigure will have gold coins, a checklist, a pen/plume, and a bag?

The Robin Hood stories are going to be so fun.  Hopefully there's a debtors prison, and the crook/Forestmen can break a poor cheesemonger out of it.

Yeah but those placeholders can be really off sometimes and we get something completely different.  It will be interesting to see if what we get.  I'm hoping some new prints and if we don't get them it won't bother me I'm just glad castle sets are back and the sets we are getting are very nice sets.  I'm all in on castle as I have stopped collecting star wars and only get sets that I think the parts and minifigs are useful for my fantasy/castle world.  I have still yet to get Rivendell that will probably be next year as the holidays are coming up.   But I'm planning on getting the viking village around the time when Majisto comes out because I'm buying my youngest son a Ninjago dragon set and that stuff together should get me to the threshold for Majisto's set.
