DaleDVM Posted November 12, 2023 Posted November 12, 2023 Hmm... Double points next weekend or gamble on Black Friday? Buying a pair of Viking villages is a good idea too. Edit... Oh dear... I looked and I already purchased the Police Station and Grand Boutique to get the forestman GWP. I am terrible at remembering what I have purchased since I haven't opened a set newer than the Prince of Persia theme. Does anyone else have this problem? From now on, I will not buy modulars until they are a couple years old. TLG lets you buy them at a discount on VIP days once they are the older modular sets on the shelf. They never allowed modulars to get the VIP day discounts in the past but recently changed the policy. Quote

I've got plenty of sets I haven't built yet (including Diagon Alley which is taking up way too much space in my Lego room just sitting there in its box, and is also blocking one of the only plug sockets because the box was too big to fit anywhere else!) but I'm acutely aware of all the sets I've got. When I buy something, it's either because I really like the build - in which case it gets opened Day One - or because I want certain parts that are in the set, in which case I've got notes regarding what the set is and what parts in it I wanted, so if I need those parts I don't buy them again. But then, my Lego spreadsheet is so bulky now that it takes as much as ten minutes to calculate all the formulae when I close it down, so perhaps I'm the abnormal one here in how much attention I pay to exactly what I have. I am still considering to buy some sets that are going to retire, so the hard choice there is to buy them on double points, or waiting till black friday in hope they will be discounted there - or risking they are sold out by then lol. I guess I will wait till double points and look what I am doing then. 2 hours ago, DaleDVM said: Edit... Oh dear... I don´t have the problem that I don´t remember the sets I bought, but I feel your "problem" with buying and not opening them. I think I first need more place to really build them, since I would like to display at least some of them. Till then they still use a lot space boxed already though. Quote

You can also manage your collection on Rebrickable - the free version has most things you need. It has charts on your collection; you can create want lists of parts and link them to BrickLink; compare sets to figure out which pieces are unique or you need to recreate a set... The spreadsheet/stats part of the hobby is part of the fun for some of us! Quote

The spreadsheet/stats part of the hobby is part of the fun for some of us! Honestly I've found Rebrickable insufficient for my needs. For my collection I need to establish: All the sets I own, incorporating inventory differences, different statuses of the set (is it built? sealed? folded into my collection?), whether I ever had the spare parts or not? - this includes at least one set which didn't match the online inventories until I submitted the evidence they were wrong. All the parts I've acquired from joblots, separated into those joblots so I can piece together possible sets. Parts I've purchased individually from Bricklink or PAB Custom parts which don't exist in the Rebrickable database Parts which I have but don't know the source from (I have two joblots' worth of parts I received as a child and never bothered to catalogue, so I want to know what those parts were) I also need to be able to keep track of how many parts I've specifically put into the correct boxes (so I know if I'm missing parts, or if I have extra parts I didn't know I had) and have various parts where I don't care to make a distinction between part types. For example, when I query my spreadsheet to see if I can build a design, I'm not really that bothered if a slope has hollow or solid studs, or whether a brick has bottom supports or not, and I certainly don't care about the different undersides of inverted slopes. I also apply a custom transformation to the part numbers of the new vented stud minifigure head, as I'm in the process of collecting every yellow face ever released and the different part number complicates things. Combine this with unintuitive categories for parts (the bricks, round category, for instance, has numerous arches and slopes and other things which make it very hard to find actual round bricks) and an unintuitive interface and it's just not worth the effort for me to use Rebrickable. (Also, my love of stats means I've got the year of purchase for every piece I've ever had, and thus have the ability to see which colour was the most prevalent in my collection in any given year going back to 2002 - something I don't believe Rebrickable offers). It's also easier IMO to export a parts list from Stud.io into a CSV file and then use vlookup formulae to see immediately whether I have enough of each part in my collection. Quote
Roebuck Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 A perfect GWP with this set would be a farmer driving a cart with some livestock. Unfortunately I think we will get the Majisto instead Do you think we will get a new GWP for the set? Quote

A remake of either this or this, or of Wolfpack Renegades if they appear in the market, would be an excellent choice. I doubt that we will get Majisto’s Workshop again, since it will be available twice in November and past GWPs have usually sold out early into their second availability window (Forestmen, Blacktron). I am not sure if we will get a designated GWP for the MTS, but it would make sense and I hope that we do! 1 minute ago, Black Falcon said: I think so. Possible, but doesn´t necessarily have to. Eldorado didn´t have a themes set for its release either (actually it had none at all). I would have said a space gwp wouldn´t be that unlikely since we are also get the blacktron ship, which might be release at the same time like Galaxy Explorer and Lion Knights castle were but we actually have two rumoured space gwps already, one releasing in january and the other in may so it seems unlikely that it will be space. But can be really anything: castle, pirates, city, who knows. Quote

I know it's just dreaming, but I'd like to see a small medieval merchant vessel similar to 6057, since we haven't seen any medieval boats in a very long time - unless one counts the Viking ship. I'm not sure we will necessarily (maybe Majisto re-release if there's enough stock for it) - simply because we're getting a Castle GWP now, so it would be quite soon to get another. Ideally we'll get something like you suggest. Preferably with two minifigures, at least one female, because there are nowhere near enough female peasant torsos. Quote

Sure, while there are prints in rotation they'll reuse some of them but for big money sets like this I think they're well aware of the expectation of having at least some new prints. (Not with GWPs, for the most part). I just hope for a civilian set they prioritise new civilian prints over a new knights faction. Quote

Obviosuly there are way more civilans in this set than in the Castle, so we still should get plenty of new ones. But we will also see reused ones. And I especially mentioned the Blacksmith one since that one was used in quite a number of sets now and if they include it in the town square set it will be around for quite a while still. I just see the risk, that it then will get reused in the next set since it is cheaper than including a new one again, while I would definitly prefer more different parts ;). Quote

I just really hope they don't use the green female torso introduced in Barracuda Bay, that doesn't fit a medieval setting at all imo Quote
jodawill Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 I'm really looking forward to this set because it isn't based off an existing set. I think that hampered Eldorado Fortress and Majisto's Workshop. The designer of this set had a lot more freedom to create something new. I hope it's the same guys who created 10305. Quote

Then the torso looks less like a vest and more kirtle. The kirtle would still be sleeveless, which is odd; I don't think you can swap out the arms for green and make it look like long sleeves for a high-priced set. But if we do get another of that torso, I might modify it like that. Or just make that torso a Forestman with my extra hats. For my medieval village display, I use a lot of atypical torsos, so that it is more RenFest/Game of Thrones clothing then historical accuracy for a precise year/location. So princesses, Harry Potter robes and dresses, Lucy's Western dress, and Rococo CMF all together! I am probably going to make it true RenFest and just plopping tourists in modern dress and selfie sticks. Quote

Well one building is probably at least inspired by the guarded inn set, but that is only 1 of 4-5 instead of the hole set. Instead it is made to fit with 10193 Medieval Market Village (and probably 7189 Mill Village Raid) a expansion set for the village I have been waiting 12 year for I assumed back in the day after those two sets that they will keep making them, but instead they cancelled the hole Castle theme Just hope I do not get so hyped that is will get disappointed like I did with Majisto If it is close to the prelim, focus on animals and civilians and go together in scale with the rest of the village I should be a very happy camper Quote
Sir Dano Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 As long as it looks like the prelim I'll be satisfied. Quote
