I was talking about the adult market. The catalogs are targeting kids and that's fine. But if you like historical stuff, other brands do a better job of that.

The adult market is even less licensed : only 2 of the icons range's 16 sets were licensed, and none were Star Wars of Harry Potter, add 2 Star Wars UCS sets, 2 similarly large Harry Potter sets, and you get a 14 to 6 unlicensed to licensed breakdown, so no, the adult catalog is just as diverse as the one targeting kids, but if you like historical stuff, and you don't want to create your own designs because of laziness, knock yourself out!

You're forgetting the 18+ Star Wars diorama sets.

Adding these, the 2-3 Star Wars dioramas, the modular and the Ninjago city markets, that creates a 16 to 26 unlicensed to licensed breakdown, so I will concede that's a bit less than what I had initially thought, but the original claim was that Lego "focuses too much on Harry Potter and Star Wars and not on classic themes"(I can feal your anger while writing that, @DonQuixote) yet Lego made licensed copies of cars and even MacDonalds as far back as you look, with many licensing deals throughout their history, sure the licensed sets of the Star Wars and Harry Potter Style are more recent, but models of real world things (ex: USS constitution), aren't, and some of these are just bringing a lot more customers in than say, yet another castle would be. And if you think I am wrong, remind me again who's the 8 billion $ company, those historical companies or Lego? Just saying, maybe those executives know what they are doing better than the folks here...

Also, we've gotten utterly off-topic here (my fault, I know), so I am done with this discussion, bye!

It may come as no surprise, but that is a huge deal to me:tongue: If they clearly save budget on animals in a set like this I will be very disappointed even if the rest of the set is great.. Sure I will learn to like it after some time if that is the case, but this have a chance to be one of my all time favorite Lego sets so I hope they do not blow it because they wanted to save money

I find it very odd that so many people are being so doom-and-gloom about Medieval Town Square. The two most controversial "classic Remake" sets - Eldorado Fortress and the Majesto GWP - were more or less recreations of their original versions, even sharing names with them. If the set was called "Guarded Inn" or something along those lines, then sure, I could see some people having issues. As far as I'm concerned, though, those early leaks make the set look sufficiently large, the minifig descriptions sounded promising, and we've only got a month or so to wait until we get to know for sure what it looks like. Sure, maybe the animal count will be a little under what most people are predicting, but I feel perfectly content with what's been teased, and feel optimistic for the set to come out.

Other than that I agree with you, if it's close to the prelim the set will most likely be fantastic. I am so hyped I try too temper my expectations, but without much luck

I do not think we will get much more info before the reveal, but I could be wrong, Anyway February is only a couple of weeks away:excited:

If you're interested in animals, there's a leak Lego is reviving jungle/adventure themes in both Friends and City with an emphasis on animals.  We already have a baby gorilla polybag leak.  I think the Lion Knights need a real lion!

Yes I know, but thanks for the tip :classic: We have already got the hole lion family

I'd love to see Lego branch off into different prints and colors for animals like gray (with stone printing) so we can have lion statues or horse-rider statues

Would fit perfectly with a goat statue in this set
City or modular building would probably fit really well for say a horse one, so would be interesting to see if they give us one in the future:sweet:

While it would be cool, it's also a very expensive line in the parts budget to use a large animal as a statue. I suspect they would prefer to include it to expand the play possibilities. And, and I could be very wrong here, isn't it usually military people on horses in statues? If so, further reason for LEGO to stay clear of it.

I think he's just saying making the horse or lion in that color that could be also used as a statue.  Which would be easy as a there are grey horses.

There's some brass and light marble statues too, so it doesn't need to be gray to be a statue.   But there is some precedent with croissants, parrots, elves in Rivendell, and several angels in cemeteries.

To save budget, I would love more gargoyles on buildings, as they can be brick built.  I was just admiring Creator Castle model B's gargoyles/dragon heads!  So few bricks, but great expressions.  I wonder if I have enough grays to make a stone dragon....

Well that is one of the most common ways because especially rulers of the past liked to be displayed either with their horse heroic in battle or even more common just on the horse looking somewhat majestic and in the same time also is a sign of wealth.

Anyways, there are many buildings where especially Lions or Horses were used as decoration (among other things) but I would highly doubt we would see Lego doing that anytime soon. For modern buildings it would look out of place and the building where it would have fit the most IMO was the Natural History Museum I think. Other than that I could really only see them doing that for a historical building they do for an architecture-Set. But for those the Lion mould we have wouldn´t really fit because it would be to big for most of the things they could display and many of them have an sitting Lion rather than a standing one.

A knight on horseback would be reasonable, and could fit into a City set or Modular Building quite easily.

Brick Clicker just confirmed 76440 to be the Durmstrang Ship and Beauxbatons Carriage :D

Harry Potter is getting a new Beauxbatons carriage set, so maybe the horse in the MTS will be reused from that.

I guess I'll just say I'm still surprised they don't do Horses in black and white regularly at all.  Those were the two most common colors in Classic Castle, and should still fits well enough for city/farm or other sets with horses.  They even have horses in these color for Friends sets.

Friends has effectively every animal in every colour and size!

.

It's so weird that horses are so rare in this theme these days, after some early Castles with 4 in a set, and plenty dotted around in other sets at the same time. Now though, the biggest, most expensive Castle set ever came with a grand total of 2. The last Castle wave had 3 or so horses in the whole range of sets. Kingdoms had a draught horse, 2 for the king's carriage, and 2 in the joust, but only 1 each for the castles/forts. Other castles this century had 1 or maybe 2. Lord of the Rings sets had similar treatment.

Considering the HP set comes out in the summer it would probably be the other way around or maybe it will be a completely different color as the Beauxbatons ones are white and the horse for MTS might be brown, tan or grey.

It's because the horse mould is 5 pieces nowaday and lego's too cheap to put multiples of them in a set for reasons we cannot fathom.

Or would you rather have multiple animals instead of multiple horses?   For MTS, I doubt we'd get more than one horse, and instead get more variety of animals, which the fans will probably prefer.  I would bet many buyers of MTS have either Blacksmith or Lion Knights Castle, where you got a horse(s) (or a Western or Paradiso or Beauxbaton's or Pirates).  As much as I need more horses for jousting or knights, that's not the theme of this set.

We do have a much harder time getting non-horse animals as farm sets are rare.  The rumored animals from the leak image seem to match with the Minifigures' jobs - sheep for the tapestry weaver, cow for the cheese maker, and goat(s) for both.  Pig wool wasn't in fashion then although horsehair was...

If you want a particular horse, four colors are already available on PAB, but the white one has no bridle.  A new color seems a bit much to add to such a broad selection. Black would stereotypically suit the criminal/crook, although dark orange/brown seemed to be in the leak.

I agree with @zoth33 HP has a much bigger budget so it makes more sense for MTS too steal from them  However I think they might reuse the Pegasus horse from marvel in the HP set. Harder to guess what MTS will do..

White is quite common as horses go these days, black on the other hand  I think maybe designers prefer to give us a horse in a new colour if they can, since there are a lot more colours to choose from now..

I agree it is frustrating, LKC really should had at least 4 :def_shrug:

It agree that this probably has 1 horse or at best + 1 foal and that is fine in a set like this as long as we get a lot of other animals here
Have not thought of that, but you might be on to something about the animals fitting the jobs :pir-thumb:
I think the horse in the leak was just a stand in like probably a lot of the animals and minifigs, so it could be any colour really as could the rest of the animals

Posted (edited)

I hope we get another color for the horse because we already had two tan ones and a orange/ brown one in 21322 MB and 10305 LKC...

I bought one dark brown for my BF troop. I'd like an exclusive skin for this one like the one in the Mill Village Raid.

I'm hoping there are new prints for animals, but I'm also wary of how that affects the budget.  Minifigs still come first, and I don't want yet another repeat of Majisto or the CMF Minstrel torso in this set.  I don't mind reusing parts, but these are $200+ sets....
