Triceron Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 (edited) Been voicing my disappointment on Discord for a while, so I'm a bit more tempered now. - No farm animals really sucks, especially since they retired the sheep and calf and piglets. If only we knew. - Buildings on the left have lackluster roofing. Looks undercooked. - Colors don't seem as good as the original leak. Tan roofing on the red is odd. Hoping for some better images. Wolfpack dude is very promising, and overall the buildings and trees are pretty well done. I'm still hoping for a Cross Axes guard. Edited February 7, 2024 by Triceron Quote
Roebuck Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 I wonder what people answered on that survey, because the majority must not have been willing to pay much for the set since Lego removed a lot of stuff. I would gladly have paid 50$ more if they included everything they removed, but I am probably the minority here Quote
Westbrick Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 I want to see a higher res photo than the one on legoleak on Reddit - it’s so hard to see some of the minifig details. The buildings look okay to me. When more images come out it’ll be interesting to see if there are any shields, etc. Quote
Agent Kallus Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 (edited) I'm not gonna judge it too harshly based on a blurry picture, like a lot of people here are doing, but it does look a little less impressive than the original leak ( but we were never meant to see that, and I'm sure it'll look better in better pictures). I say that and yet I am very much looking forward to this, I do love it still . Edited February 7, 2024 by Agent Kallus Quote
Westbrick Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Are we going to get better images today? Or is it just this leaked one we’re expecting for the moment? Quote
smack_it_smack_it Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 There are some pretty good res pictures on Instagram and I don't know... I expected a bit more I guess. All the roofs are done the same way, there are no chickens or chicks. The buildings look rather simple I guess it is a nostalgia factor, but I like the colors. I'm not sure if 8 figures is enough for a 3,000-piece set with only one medium-sized animal being the goat. I'm glad they removed the honey hive section it just looked so odd lol. But I was hoping for a bit more of a garden... that's one thing we've never gotten from lego castle apart from 2 stud strips along the walls. Oh and was hoping for a feast table. I don't know it was just such a cozy scene in the original MMV: a large tree with a welcoming full table underneath and a gold dish. Can't wait to see the interior, don't mind if it doesn't hinge and doesn't have back walls. All minifigures look cute with nice prints so far. Sorry for even more yapping but also kinda miss old backgrounds... this plain black is not a vibe for a cozy scene Quote

It kind of feels like 50% of this set was copied and pasted, such as the good cart, the tower, the tudor houses, and the minifigures. Why does it look like the wagon wheel is missing a spindle? The closer I look, the more it appears this way to me. It's just blurry pic + illusion of lighting. If you look closely enough it has all its spokes. It weirded me out too, I almost thought they made a new mold just for that.... Quote
Nilker Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 the cart looks a bit weird. There are no visible handles for a minifigure to pull it. Or maybe the handles are black and blend in with the background. Quote

Have enough of them in my childhood Lego pile anyway Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 I like what I’m seeing here, but it’s too bad we lost like 90% of the animals The new grey goat is cool though! Quote
Lionbear8 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 I just want to know does it connect to the lions castle! Quote
Roebuck Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 What is missing from the prelim and how much would that cost to include? What I can see on first glance: forestman jester guard horse 2 sheep cow calf 3 owls 1 squirrel most beehives and flowers 2 big trees 2 small birds 1 floor on one of the buildings and the rest look smaller also? 1 marked stall and some other details in front Quote
Merlo Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 It looks all right, I guess. Not as bad as I imagined it would be. I like that it's colorful. I love that the tower is straight from 10305, finally bringing together some elements instead of making each set stand on its own. Design-wise it sadly suffers from the same inconsistency that 10305 suffers from: some parts look really elegant and others look something I'd MOC myself, my lack of skill included. But worse than that, once again, is the inconsistency in detail with parts of the scene that are rather detailed and parts that look like they're from a set for a younger audience. The roofs on the left catch my eye immediately with regards to this. I understand that there might be added value in breaking the consistency of detail to depict something you otherwise could not, but one should not drop below the baseline level of detail assumed for each set as that just makes it look rough and unfinished. If the suggested price remains, I might buy it. Quote

Yay for blurry rendered box art late at night! Quote

Llewop Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 It might be my eyes but is that a new crossbow that the figure in the back is holding? I’m hoping we’ll get more detailed pictures. I like it obviously some of the feedback from the prelims have meant some change which was always going to happen, like someone else pointed out we were never supposed to see those prelims. Not sure whether to wait to see if there is a castle related GWP to come with this, or maybe later in the year Quote

Agreed, we were never mean to see the prelims and if they weren't leaked and this came out of the blue, then I think the response would have been far more positive. I really like it as it is, although, I feel it does lack a couple of large and medium animals. Will definitely get this but can wait and hopefully there will be a related GWP in the near future. Yoggington Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 My expectations were low... ..and I love what I see. There's a few flaws alright, but entirely easily fixable. In particular, the colour-combination on the right-most building (olive green & dark tan) doesn't work for me, so I'll be colour-swapping that. Near every roof could use some work too. In fact a lot of the build looks a bit simple, and I'd be curious to see the back of the box for interiors and how exactly the building fold on themselves, but it's very likely a week 1 buy for me. I might even (and I've never done this for anything over €20) buy a second before end-of-life. In particular I love how linked it is to the LKC using the same slim five-wide style for the turret, & the similar window. Is the red building a re-imagining of the guarded inn? *chefs kiss* Looks like you can swap out the stall with the one from the castle perfectly too (or just pull the castle one to make the square a little more bustling). Quote
Arjo Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 3000+ parts for what are probably not fully enclosed buildings so I expect a non-trivial amount of smaller elements. Given few minifigs and animals I hope the price is reasonable (don’t recall what was announced). Also next to the snow white cottage it looks a bit rougher (though that one is dear). Ultimately in terms of medieval vibe, the hocus pocus one might still be leading for me (to add to the blacksmith shop). Awaiting a potential drop in price though… name of the game for all things lego in the new world. Quote
KristinnK Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 I would echo the sentiment that the buildings are a disappointment. I simply don't like the geometry/design of the buildings. What I always liked about the original MMV is the elegance of the buildings. Each of the two buildings have an integral and focused, almost simple design theme. These buildings are more of a jumbled combination of different design themes, and their structure is too irregular. I'm not a fan. Counterintuitively the buildings also seem to me less detailed/ornate compared to the 15 year old MMV which has half the number of pieces. I do like the minifigs though. I especially can't wait to get better pictures of the woman wearing the coif standing in the doorway on the right. And the tax collector looks really suspiciously like Boromir, which is one of my favorite medieval warrior/lord minifig. And that rogue figure of course is also interesting. I am less immediately interested in the other figs though. Regarding the animals, they seem to have taken the position that the large castle already has the cow, this set gets the goat, and horses are a dime a dozen. I don't think fans will necessarily agree with this reasoning, but they do seem to believe that this is an avenue for restraint in the design of the set. Also, perhaps this means they are planning a type of medieval farm set in the future. Quote
Breakspear Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 First impressions: I like it! Admittedly, my interest in this set has always been tied to the minifigures and so far I like what I'm seeing. I love that TLG chose to focus on civilians (7/8) rather then new military factions. I can only see one definite reuse of an existing torso (the blue/green farmer torso from LKC). However there are five new, unique torso prints and two (the crook and the guard) which are indeterminate. On that basis, the set easily surpasses my minimum success criteria of 50% of figures having new torso prints (I can even see a little bit of leg printing - yay!). There seems to be good diversity in the new prints: the tax collector looks particularly interesting, but the other new artisans/peasant figures also all seem to have unique designs (I was expecting to get a few repeats of a new 'generic peasant' torso). I'm very happy TLG have resisted the urge to give us another copy of the blacksmith/miller/barista brown leather apron fig, or make gratuitous re-use of CMF parts (a la the poor troubadour in LKC). I'm excited to learn about the factions of the guard and the crook. The latter has strong wolfpack vibes - but does it carry the wolf insignia? Again, the fact that TLG didn't just take the easy route and make the crook a red/green forestman gives me reason to hope. As for the buildings - while I agree with some of the critiques, as a group I think they look OK. I'm super curious to see how they pair with the LKC in terms of size/scale/complimentary colours etc. The apparent non-appearance of the much-anticipated 'shieldwright' workshop is curious, but perhaps it will be explained by the interiors. I note from the side of the box that the 'Guarded Inn' building is hinged, and can fully close-up, just like LKC. No idea if the other cluster of buildings has the same feature, but I suspect it has. Bring on the the high-res high-res photos! Quote

If they wanted to recreate the look of the coif, Lego would have used the same part as for the lady from LKC. Quote
Darth Shadowthrone Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Any idea when an official reveal would come in the day? (GMT) Probably after 3pm is what I’m imagining Quote
Lucarex Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Can't lie, it's a bit underwhelming both in terms of side buildings and of course, the relative lack of animals. No amount of hi-res photos or internals will change that unfortunately. Guess that's what happens when you conduct market research and focus on budget. Such a missed opportunity. Quote
DonQuixote Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 I've just seen a hi res pic of the front of the box on Instagram. The minifigs look great. The buildings are nice but it seems open back. Don't like that. So if it's open back, not sure if am going to buy it. I am defenitely going for Mountain Fortress at Bricklink over 2 hours! 340€ in Europe. That's a better deal. Quote
