I wonder when the official reveal is coming. I thought they normally posted this stuff before noon eastern time. I hope the reviews are coming today. I'd really like to get a better look at the new parts.

Yeah there seems to be a new door piece.  I hope to see something soon.

- color type vomit for the shieldsmith/inn (there's somehting wrong with it);

- the tree (seriously?);

- STICKERS, just no;

- not enough animals;

- not enough figures.

I think it will be interesting to see some color swaps on this set. There is nothing stopping us from customizing it to our own personal tastes.

I actually like this set! I didn't really have much anticipation, but I have been following this topic with half an eye to see if there were any leaks. Now that I've seen the pictures, I'm not disappointed. It does what it says on the box: it's a medieval town square with multiple peasants of various professions. Style-wise it fits the Lion Knights' Castle, so that's cool. I also really like the painting with 375 Yellow Castle. Plus, there's an updated Wolfpack torso and a lot of different animals and stuff. Yeah, pretty much ticks all the boxes in my book.

I can understand people who have been steadily following the news on this set might be somewhat disappointed or expected more of something different, but for me as an "outsider who just likes historical Lego": I think it's pretty great. Neat successor to the previous village-themed medieval Lego sets.

I quite like this set as well. I do wish it had a couple more play features (the only real ones I see are the wheel you cn wind up and the tax collector hiding place), but overall I'm happy with it. I will not purchase this right away, but will certainly put it on my list of sets to buy if I can.

My guess is that they didn't want the Bricklink Designer Program to overshadow the announcement, and so they pushed it back a day, possibly two? Some people on here even reported on Brickset publishing a press release, then quickly taking it down, so it sounds like it's ready to go. That's the only reason I can think of to keep delaying it at this point.

 There also appears to be many new printed parts. They don't appear to be stickers.

Everything -- shutters, flags, the classic castle painting -- looks like stickers to me.

Based on what I see so far I give this set a solid 9 out of 10 but will reserve my final critique until the hi res photos are out.

High res photos are out.  I give this a 6 out of 10, the buildings are very underwhelming to me.  The colors are great, the minifigures excellent, but the techniques are just not better than what's in MOCs, and the set very much plays it safe with stuff that's worked before.  In fact, I don't see anything that's not just a repeat of Lion Knight's castle (except maybe the gate on the goat pen).  It is, however, the best set we've gotten since Lion Knight's Castle, and I will likely pick up two copies on day 1, as well as load up on the minifigures from PAB.

PAB isnt guaranteed

Yes it is?  People said this for Lion Knight's Castle, they said this for Eldorado.  Why would Lego not take our money for these minifigures?

I would have easily paid 300€ for more figs, animals, trees and prints only as the original leak hinted it. I will of course take it, but not on any conditions.

This is the best summary of the set that I have seen.

I think most of us expected another forestman

I would love to get all the original colors of forestmen again, as well as new ones like purple and light blue.  I have an army of the originals, at least 50 or 60, but I would love to have more.  If space fans can get all the colors of space men, when can't I get all the colors of forestmen?

I think we’re getting spoiled, as I think the build is objectively more interesting than either of the two main civilian-focused sets we’ve gotten in the past. (MMV & MVR) bigger and much more than just two basic houses or a simple barn.

This build is meh.  MMV wasn't a great build, but it was OK for it's time.  MVR is a terrible build, made up for by the presence of some of the best minifigures of all time.  I want next level stuff from Lego.  Why are current fan designs so much better than this?

With additional images, and white background, looks better then the basic black box art for sure.

I think it would look more interesting in video reviews too, as pictures just can't really capture all angles of a set that can be displayed in many ways like this, especially with hinged buildings that can double their width.

- stickers? yes, it's bad, very bad for not licensed set

- not enough animals? As for me, if this set has name "Medieval village" so yes it's bad. But it's Medieval square and it's a little bit different concept. Medieval square should have any "business" buildings and if these buildings require animals so ok, you can add animals. Cheese factory should have animal? yes, add goat. Shieldsmith's workshop? Watchtower? no. Etc. Just one building in this set require animal for producing cheese. The square is place for medieval "boutiques and hotels". So it would be great to add one horse with horseman and jester like it was in leaked picture a year ago. But cow, pig, chicken really? No, it's not medieval village

- I don't understand the idea of tree in this set. It's for wolfpack man, but this tree looks out of place for me

- some roofs are too simple

In overall this is good set for the medieval square concept, but not day one purchase. Yes, may be TLG didn’t understand that we wanted animals and... medieval square was created.

I do think the cheesemonger needs a cow. That poor goat...

Where are they getting the wool for the tapestries? The squirrel? Or is one goat stimulating the economy of half of the town?

Also, there's a roast turkey and other food items in the inn area, so you could argue that a few chickens could tie into that.

Not too bad imo. Think it will fit nicely with the lion knights castle.

My gripes are; minifigs could be more plentiful and interesting. The tax collector is awesome, the wolf pack guy could better.

Building techniques could be more I iteresting and detailed. The roofs aren't that great imo. The houses could also be better.

Overall not bad but not great either. Imo.they should have made a more sophisticated series of different sets, like the modulars but with a smaller scale in mind

Yet Harry Potter can have ~10 Hogwarts sets that can be connected. And last year they got 76422: Diagon Alley: Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes and it seems this year Ollivanders & Madam Malkin's Robes will follow. So if they can do seperat Diagon Alley buildings, it should be possible to have other (medieval) seperate buildings too.

It should be possible too, but you are assuming those are similar ranges ; Harry Potter is aimed at kids, who don't usually have enough money for a 300$ set [citation needed].

In addition, those kids will feel compelled to come back for more at a later date (say, Christmas and their birthday) if the sets can all be put together, an AFOL who disliked one of the buildings won't. And having a bunch of hogwarts sets at various prices is likely to target more customers, while AFOL sets already are aiming for big money clients.

I think you underestimate how much profit Lego has on each set and how low the costs actually are. Allmost everything in the Lego factory is automated I saw in a documentary. Also, Lego buys raw materials in huge bulks with huge discount. For an example, it's just 200€ to produce Rivendell I estimate and the rest is pure profit. That's how the Lego family has become richer then the Danish royalty.

I can feel the anger about Lego's pricing :pir_laugh2:

I think you overestimate how much profit Lego has on each set and how high the costs actually are. Almost everyone thinks of the marginal cost (the cost of making one more copy), but the raw materials, whether purchased in huge bulks or not-are quite cheap (around 20 euros a kilo-not a lot even for a set as large as rivendell)- the real cost is everything else (as I mentioned in my post).

Also, if Lego really had "pure profit" of 60%, I'd be really impressed, because that's not the numbers they have on their financial returns (around 30-40% profits).

And anyways, I was merely giving example values, for all I care it costs 1$ to make the set and 1$ to make 4 smaller ones, the points I made all remain valid, the costs INCREASE as you make more things.

Concerns me that with amount of people saying they are going to get it off PAB that it'll go the way of the Red Classic Space Torso where it takes ages to show up on PAB (if at all) then disappear without a steady supply ever being in stock especially if MTS doesnt sell well and they see this as the reason.

It would surprise me if the Medieval Town Square would only stay around for less than two years so there should be plenty of time to get them. Though I agree that the Classic Spacemen came to Pick a Brick quite late. Anyways the minifigures will be sold out quick when they first show up at pick a brick for sure but after some time it should be easy to get them, like with other popular figures.

I don´t know, I see many stickers even on the lower quality pictures already and considering that the other Sets like Lion Knights Castle, Galaxy Explorer and Eldorado Fortress had not Stickers at all, this would be a very poor decision. Though of course it is possible that they still will be prints as we had stickers on the first photos of the Lion Knights Castle too, which turned out to be prints in the end. Then it would actually be pretty awesome since there would be some very nice parts with this set.

2 hours ago, Nicker said:

If the design team included more animals the price would have had to increase or they would have had to make cuts like how many new torso prints were included in the set etc.

Honestly I would have rather paid some more to get the things they removed from the prelim back. In the end sure you can buy a cow and such at pick a brick, but if we are beeing realistic here, if they would include a cow more they wouldn´t add the same amount of money to the set they are asking for it on pick a brick.

Good point. Do we know if MTS wont be exclusive? (Guess its country specific anyway). PAB isnt guaranteed though but hope Lego will put it on their irregardless as surely they know castle fans want more than one and wont buy multiple MTS sets.

It will be exclusive for three months at least. But I would expect that one of Lego´s exclusive partners will get it too later like with the Galaxy Explorer, Eldorado Forgtress and Viking Village. Though of course it is also possible that it will stay exclusive.

Well Lego did get my 340€ today for the Mountain Fortress. I was not interested to buy this set because it has no paper instructions. But the medieval market was a dissapointment for me. The tax collector however looks very good. I hope he will tax the very rich to give to the poor...

So I got caught by FOMO :ugh:

It will be water and bread for me the next 6 months. :moar:

Anybody interested to trade the Mountain Fortress for a kidney? You only need one... Just curious. Some people spent everything for a limited collectors set. :pir-triumph:

I tend to agree - the name "Medieval Town Square" does imply a more urban setting = fewer animals roaming around.

I think this set suffers from a slight crisis of identity in that 50% of buildings appear urban/detailed while 50% are simple/rustic.:wacko: Then again, the buildings in the original Medieval Village Market were 100% urban, but surrounded by farm animals, so.... :shrug_confused:

Agreed! I'd love to see some colour swaps with a slightly warmer palette: less dark red and green, and more shades of orange, nougat, browns and tan.:classic: Perhaps also a tiled cheese-slope roof or two in the style of the LKC.

I agree, I would personally rather pay more for delivery of the full prelim concept than have a cut down version with key aspects removed.

Thanks for reminding me about the visible stickers in LKC! That restores my hope. I was in shock at the large number of stickers visible in the leaked images.*huh*

Today was decision day.I took the day off especially for this day.

It would be the medieval market for 230€ or Mountain Fortress for 340€.Not both.

Medieval market is a dissapointment for me. So Mountain Fortress it has become! Will buy just the new torsos and shield on Pick a Brick.

My brother in bricks, same here (well, without the day off). I could only justify one of these.

Interestingly, I landed the other side of the fence and find the €230 option more appealing. Mountain fortress has some very attractive ideas, but I reckon I can just peek at the instructions and pick and choose what I like.

What a great idea. If I didn't have 27 other future projects in my head, I might join you in this quest.

Share pics if you ever get round to it, would love to see how you'd make it work!

Good thing I got my mountain fortress pre ordered, I didn't know it would sell out that fast.

But hey, so much for a reveal, what we got was a leaked art than a lego official release. I feel that they did this on purpose to gauge the opinions of fans and stir the medieval pot per se. It worked.

I don't even get mad anymore, especially after Majisto but their creative choices as of late, amuse me lol

It was a prelim image.  There was no way we were getting that many animals they have never given us that many in a set before.  And I thought we would get a couple more figs but  Obviously the budget got reduced hence what we see now.   Yeah it could be better but here's the thing about lego you can actually make whatever you want by building things yourself.  I used to take the sets I had as a kid and change them around to what I liked.  I Still can do that now as an adult.  If I don't like something in a set I can easily mod it or I can just make a village myself.

I think I'm leaning towards this direction.  The good thing about Lego is they always have their instructions up online for people to see.  It'll be nice to take a look at how they make some of these buildings and replicate similar techniques for a custom village.

Yeah I don't understand the whole we need more animals argument by some people if that really prevents you from buying a set is just weird to me.  PAB and bricklink are great for getting parts and figs and animals.  If I like a set I buy it.  I remember people complaining about the Lion knights castle being to grey.  If I need more of something I just go to pick a brick or bricklink and get what I need for my MOC.  I'm planning a new MOC and need lots of pieces and parts so this would be a good set for parts and figs are nice and if the figs and shield end up on PAB that would be great to build upon this.  I'm planning on starting to build the Viking village this weekend and plan on modding it and possibly expanding it as I have a decent number of vikings.  I mean every PAB order I make I always get plants for landscaping and animals and always order some Black Falcons and Lion knights to boost my armies.  It actually amazed me the other day when I counted how many Black Falcons I have now.  It's a fun hobby that's why I do it and sets like this only give me more options so that's how I look at it.

I'm the same way.  Sets like this aren't designed with one specific person in mind.  They have to appeal to a large audience.  At least we all have the ability to change the things we may not like!

LEGO is one of my hobbies, something to do to relax, have fun, and relieve stress.  Not something to get worked up over and cause thoughts of frustration and despair.

Yes, I feel I'm in the minority as far as Lowenstein Castle goes :classic:.  The scale just seemed off for me when it was originally available to order.  No regrets, though.  It just wasn't for me.

Yeah exactly I think some people lose sight of that.  I love making different figures and making new builds.  I just went to the lego store the other day and the Pab wall had spruce trees and some other great leaf parts and wheels for carts I was like a kid in a candy store.  I also picked up some more Bat lords and finally found a mushroom sprite from the CMF.
