Most companies would prefer not to have information stolen and published by third-parties prior to making an official announcement... ...Either way, leaks sure do get people speculating! :pir-triumph:

Absolutely, m8, speculation is the key here. It's well-known that sometimes companies make info leaks their marketing tool, which is being used to hype people up around a certain stuff & start gathering attention beforehand, guaranteeing themselves a 100% focus of the audience and, therefore, potentially a better start for sells. It's all based on timings, ability to stir up people's curiosity, engaging them into conversations specifically about the product, steadily building up the thrill before the actual announcement, which in the end kinda serves as a detonator to audience's excitement when our anticipation (masterfully constructed in advance) gets rewarded by an official statement. Mind games indeed 👌🏻 And we'll never know until the "reward" actually drops on our heads :pir-laugh:

This is another good point - some companies do deliberately leak information as part of their marketing strategy.

So let's add a third scenario to the list:

  1. The leaked information is fabricated
  2. The leaked information is stolen from the company
  3. The leaked information is strategically placed by the company

The LegoLeak subreddit is saying that it's going to be a remake of 6276 Eldorado Fortress. 2503 pieces. Personally, this is about as good as it could get, as I have the Caribbean Clipper, but never had a base for them. And I still think the Clipper looks good by today's standards.

And I have my old 6270 Forbidden Island along with Barracuda Bay as an island and ship. So great balance of the competing forces in my collection.

Really looking forward to it!

So excited! Unfortunately, not an imperial flagship but my x2 of the creator ship will do for now I guess. Any predictions on blue or red uniforms for the soldiers?

Posted (edited)

The piece count seems a little low. I have a theory. The designers of 10305 said they had considered a raised baseplate at one point, and they said the tooling was still available. Is it possible that the new Eldorado Fortress will bring them back? This is the most iconic feature of the set, after all, and it was the first set to use the famous ramp and pit mold.

If the set does include a raised baseplate, the part count seems high (unless it's a larger sized baseplate). Raised baseplates may not be strong enough to hold a set that size. If that's the case, it could be that the set also includes a ship, like the Imperial Trading Post.

Eldorado Fortress had blue soldiers. If they were using red, I expect the leak would have referenced the Imperial Trading Post instead. It doesn't make sense to do a remake but change the faction. It would be cool to have red ones again though considering they've been unavailable since the 2010 ship. I prefer blue, though, personally, although I only had red when I was a kid.

I think 500 of the 2500 pieces could easily be used for terrain etc. For example, the castle has that rocky terrain but also has an interior for the dungeon! Maybe something similar?

Might get some blue torsos in bulk as soon as pictures drop to boost my imperial army. I prefer the red ones but have lost most of my OG ones from 2009 over the years. Have about 4 left not counting the POTC ones. Might make them into marines or just put the rest of the redcoats into my potc display. We shall see

Don't do that. They're expensive. If this rumor is true, they'll be in Pick a Brick a year from now for much less. You made me chuckle though when you referred to the 2009 pirates line as OG. I guess it has been a very long time indeed.

Would you believe later in 2023, it will be 15 years since that line was announced?

I talked with u/FluffySky6 on Reddit (the person who provided information about the 2HY Star Wars sets) and asked about the new Eldorado Fortress and Castle Majisto set:

Spoiler

Q:

"What can you say about the Eldorado Fortress remake and Majisto GWP?"

"What colours were in the EF remake, and roughly how many (and what kind of) Minifigs were there?"

"Did the Majisto set have any printed torsos or legs/skirt pieces? Any shields?"

"Also, did either set have a sticker sheet?"

A:

"Minifigs in El Dorado were nearly identical to the original, in count / number of pirates vs imperials"

"And seemed to be a fairly faithful recreation of the original"

"Majisto's skirt was printed, but I believe that's all. It also came with a knight of sorts"

"Both sets could've had sticker sheets but I didn't go out of my way looking for them like I did the SWs sheets"

Q:

"Did you see any large printed flag pieces in the EF?"

A:

"I don't recall honestly"

Q:

"Can you describe the knight in the Majisto set? What kind of helmet were they wearing, what did their torso print look like, did they have a shield, etc?"

A:

"I just remember it was a different looking knight than any of the original majisto sets (there were 2 or 3 I think)?"

"And I don't recall which exact faction"

Q:

"So not a Dragon Knight?"

"Did they have a crest on their torso, or just armour print?"

A:

"I'm not sure"

/ / / /

Q:

"Do you remember the Eldorado Fortress colours at all? I am curious as to whether it will still be yellow or a more realistic tan."

A:

"I want to say it was fairly faithful, i remember there definitely being some amount of tan that seemed to be used for the beach part of the little island"

/ / / /

Q:

"Also, just to confirm - Bluecoats, right?"

A:

"Yep!"

so true didn't even consider that thank you! Yeah 2009 pirates was my first pirate experience and it's so nostalgic for me. My brick bounty traveled to the US and back many times. The crew has been lost except for the admiral's daughter, mermaid, and, of course brickbeard himself! I got another copy of the bounty last year with all the pieces in mint condition and sealed sails for free! Very happy about it because my og one is back in russia and I don't know when I can get it back.

I remember I was 4 when my dad brought a Lego catalog back home from work I drooled over the bounty. Got it for Christmas that year. I go to college in four months :(

This is very exciting! My first big set as a kid was Rock Island Refuge and that was my only source of blue coats for the longest time as the red coats were already out when I got the set. I used to look at Eldorado Fortress and Caribbean Clipper in the shop at home magazines wishing I had them, but they were no longer in production at that point. I’ve slowly collected the smaller sets over the past so many years and just finally got the Caribbean Clipper this past fall. Looking forward to being able to add the Eldorado Fortress remake. I’d love to see a small trading ship added in like the one in Imperial Trading Post, but maybe I can just build one to add to the set.

The Lion's Anniversary Castle shows that LEGO can recreate the feel of raised baseplates well with regular bricks, so I am not overly worried. 🙂

It's crazy. I was an adult when those sets were released. It's criminal how few good pirate sets we've gotten since the '90s too. We've only had two small waves since pirates was retired in 1997 (I think). That's just insane when you compare it to how often we got new waves in the '90s.

I hope you're able to collect all of those sets in the future. It was a great line. Apart from the new colors, it was still very similar to the 1990s pirates. Things changed quite dramatically after that with all the new molds and modern building techniques. I prefer the older styles myself because I love the simplicity.

It's really unfortunate what's going on with Russia right now. It must be very difficult for you. By the way, what part of the US are you in now?

Edit: I should add that I'm very glad you're not currently in Russia considering you're at the age you could have been drafted!

I'm going to be pretty upset if they makea new dragon knight that only appears in a GWP. Dragon knights is probably my favorite castle faction as far as the minifigures go. If they make them, I want to buy them in bulk.

You should ask that guy if this set has a raised baseplate!

That's an awesome story. I really wanted Redbeard Runner when I was a kid. O remember standing in Walmart with my dad looking at that thing on clearance for $50. I know he really wanted to buy it for me, but he didn't have the money. You're very fortunate to have gotten that ship at such a young age. Looking at your profile, you and I have very similar interests, but we're separated by a generation, so you grew up with the 2.0 versions of all the themed I loved.

Oh yeah, one day I hope I will collect all of the 2009-10 pirate sets. I wasn't able to afford a lot of the old sets from my childhood and have recently been picking up sets from that era to fill a gap in my childhood. I had a fantastic childhood even with a smaller amount of sets but now I have them to remind me of those good old times:). The simplicity of those sets is visible but it feels so nostalgic that I also love it! But I welcome beautifully designed ships like the PoBB! Yes, it is very difficult I am unable to see my family or travel there for potentially the next 10 years. I'm scared of what's going on and am ashamed of it and potentially not seeing some of my family for a very long time is also very heartbreaking. I live in Texas currently.

Yes, you are correct. A wave 2009-10 and another in 2015.

The business model was quite different back in the 80's and 90's.

But it's interesting what constitutes as a "new wave" back then, because with the exception of 1990, new Pirate sets were released every year... although, the entire wave may not have been released in a single year.

Let's see if I can make sense of that statement!

Wave 1:  1989 - 1991 - Pirates versus Soldiers
Wave 2:  1992 - 1993 - Pirates versus Imperial Guards
Wave 3:  1994 - 1995 - Islanders
Wave 4:  1996 - 1997 - Pirates versus Imperial Armada

Considering that he mentioned tan pieces for a sandy island build, I assume that it will not have a raised baseplate (also, LEGO has been avoiding baseplates in general lately, outside of the modular lines).

Interesting he says "i remember there definitely being some amount of tan that seemed to be used for the beach part of the little island" given that Eldorado Fortress was built upon a grey base plate without any beach whatsoever.
