Posted July 9, 200816 yr Hi, everybody! Looking at my avatar you can see I don't usually visit this forum but that was before watching the amazing work some people does for the Trains & Town Forum. I can say I really love it, specially the modular models and I had the idea of changing my mocing customs and moving to this Forum. I've also started a little modular neighborhood. Here's the first building (only a LDD project for the moment):
July 9, 200816 yr Hey BlueBard! Excellent MOC. Welcome to the Trains & Town forum. Since most intro topics end up in the Hello! My Name is.... Forum, perhaps you could change the title of this thread to reflect that it has a MOC in it and isn't just an intro... Welcome!
July 9, 200816 yr Author Yep, you're right, Hinckley. Maybe some admin could change it for me saying there's a MOC design inside?

July 9, 200816 yr Author Nice, how much LDD say this costs? Thanks! I cannot send it because I used "not allowed" parts Anyway I'm not going to order it to Lego but building it by myself (I hope I'll have enough bricks for all I want to built )
July 11, 200816 yr Hey there! Great MOC! I love the modular buildings, like this one. It's nice to see other members taking on the modular rank.
July 11, 200816 yr Cool building. I'm a sucker for all the permutations of "modular" buildings. What kind of building is it? The statue seems to suggest police or somesuch.

Actually it's going to be a Coffee Shop and some kind of "Loft Appartment" in the first floor. The statue it's only illustrative, using the bricks available on LDD The whole project is going to have three buildings at least and by that point I'll look how many bricks remain in my boxes. Then I'll try to build something else to "complete" the neighborhood (I was thinking on a park, a train station and something I really want to build, even if it looks ironical: a building in construction LOL) I also want, when I'll have all the "set" finished, to do some kind of scene with mob and police so, if you got any ideas (or maybe some interesting decals? ) for that they're most welcome! Thanks for watchin'! Edited July 11, 200816 yr by BlueBard
July 16, 200816 yr Author The first building is ready! I finished it yesterday around 4:00 AM LOL I'll try to take some photos and post it this weekend.
August 2, 200816 yr Author Well, finally after long days of work I can show the first shots of my modular Nighborhood MOC! The Coffee Shop: A house with a little garage: Tony's, an italian grocery: I have still a lot work to do, like the interiors, vehicles, MFs, a building in construction and a trafic circle I've planned to build this next weeks, but I've wanted to show to you these three main buildings in the case you have counsels, or constructive criticisms to make So, comments are most welcome, and thanks for watchin'!
August 3, 200816 yr These are very nice and far more detailed then what I've been able to build. It looks like your neighborhood is coming along nicely. One question I do have is why you didn't build directly on the baseplates. Is this something that is standard? Being new to the city/town genre I haven't been able to pick up on all the standards of construction.
August 4, 200816 yr Those are some brilliant buildings you have there? The cafe looks even better in LEGO than in LDD. I like your use of alternating "profile" bricks on the yellow house. Definately some ideas in there I may borrow. One critique, the yellow pillared 2nd story windows on "Tony's" look a bit cartoonish. Perhaps something more subtle? Excellent job overall though. You've got the beginnings of a fine town there.

Being new to the city/town genre I haven't been able to pick up on all the standards of construction. Oh, it's not a standard at all, in fact that's completely anti-standard It's just I don't have any "street" baseplates at all so I decided to do an elevated sidewalk One critique, the yellow pillared 2nd story windows on "Tony's" look a bit cartoonish. Perhaps something more subtle? It's completely deliberate. I wanted a bit of showy look for the italian building
August 5, 200816 yr Love it! The LDD version looks far better in real brick! I like the way you did the color scheme on both- not to much of one color, not to little of another. Good job!

Thanks! I've assembled the three buildings today and created a set with some vehicles and street scenes. I've taken some photos so I'll try to edit and post it in this forum this weekend. Hope you'll like it!
August 7, 200816 yr Blue Bard, you're an excellent builder. When you build a new creation, you should really start a new thread for it.
August 7, 200816 yr Author Blue Bard, you're an excellent builder. When you build a new creation, you should really start a new thread for it. Thank you! I've already planned to start a new thread, in fact I've just finished to edit the shots so I'll try to post it tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Coming soon!
