kahir88 Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 (edited) The creaking of the wheelchairs could be heard from miles away. "- Slow down apprentice! You will shake the little life out of me!" - scolded the old man his much younger companion. "- Bah, I don't remember these cobblestones on this road! Indeed. Deep Garden, the small town now has a pretty solid stone wall, to protect it. And not only the wall but now the roads are now covered with cobblestone. Some would call this, civilization. The old royal cartographer visited the place when the wall was erected. And he remembers it was built, from wood and planks. Much has changed. The town is now able to get quality stones from other lands, And they were able to improve their fortification. "- I remember when I was here, to re-design the area map, after the town built that wall, and now... I must come once again, to redraw it again. pointing out, the new stone wall!" His apprentice was a little disappointed. He joined the royal cartographer's guild, to see the world, meet interesting people, learn their stories, and their culture, and draw maps, about new places. And now, here is he, pushing an old man, in his last days, and only heard stories, about how the world was a better place, decades ago. "- We finally arrived. Now let's check what improvements have we here... Stone wall, gates, yes, the tower is also made out of stone. Armory, messenger birds..." - the old man stopped for a second, to smell something. "- Can you smell it? They are making stew. I wonder what stew they are making..." The apprentice's visage stopped on one of the soldiers, who was picking mushrooms. None of them were experts in mushroom picking, but the apprentice was sure If they stay for dinner, then this will be his master's last supper... Here is the original build: Also, you can find more pictures from the newer version, of Cat. B: here Edited March 29, 2023 by kahir88 Quote
Louis of Nutwood Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Oooh, the battlements and crenellations are a sight to behold! Lovely work with the vegetation and the 360 degree build. The wooden sign is truly clever, and the pebble path is super smooth. Awesome work, sir Kahir. Quote
Grover Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 On its own, this is a great build. I definitely get the sense of Avalonia, with the traditional castle look and all the greenery. Your mix of new and old grey is great and gives a natural look to the stone (which was never uniform in real life). The interesting curvature you take to the battlements draws the eye in, and you have a nice height difference in the tower. I like the top of the flagpole too, with the gold. The irregular base looks very organic and is well done. You've done a nice job with the stone path, making it look like someone put forth an effort to lay down stone but it's not some well-maintained Roman-style road. Similarly the tall grasses, plants, and weeds to the side of the road look like the wall is the edge of civilization, which it probably is. The signposts are a great touch too. The 360 view is really cool, and I like the chicken coop. The guy cutting up carrots is really good, and it's obvious he's preparing dinner on the nearby fire. Your scenes are always so life like and interesting. I have to come back to them a few times to catch everything that's going on. The ruffled collar on the mushroom is great! I haven't seen that before, but it really works! Now, I must say, I am very impressed how far you have come as a builder. Not that you were poor quality before, but your use of more advanced techniques and really novel uses of things is everywhere now, and I think you make some great contributions to the guilds. I know that my building haven't progressed nearly as far in the same span of time! Keep up the great work, and I look forward to more of your builds and stories! Quote
Ecclesiastes Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 Neat approach of the wooden structures being built in the old moc and the final stone wall in this one. I really like your crenelations and that wheelchair is perfect! Quote
Exetrius Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 Great entry, kahir! Once again an original approach to the challenge (as last time, with the lore writer's office), showing what time can do to a town. The wall is pretty nice with the ornamentation, texture and mix of greys. I like the back side, I'm charmed by the tower with the 'attached' section (with the roof). Maybe it's because of the door, which looks just right for the tower, and its unusual off-center placement. Another interesting choice is the little wall on the back, possibly to prevent soldiers get knocked off the wall, but I like it. One critique for the tower is that the top three layers of bricks on the tower look a little plain, compared to the lower part of it and the ornate wall, so perhaps some SNOT texturing or decoration or some more masonry bricks could improve that? Furthermore, the front of the build is impressive! The vegetation immediately draws the attention, of course the flowers, but also the plant variety and different shades of green used. However, the traces of what some would call 'civilization' , like the road sign, the fence and lanternpost, as well as the nice Y-fork cobblestone road are breathing more life into this scene. Keep up the great work! Quote
