Hello again everyone,

Having watched the brilliant Andor over Christmas it gave me lots of models to design and build.  I finally got the last of my Bricklink orders last week and rather than drip feed these over the next few weeks I thought I would drop the whole Andor collection of 7 models in one go.   I have used a lot of screenshots taken from the relevant Episodes from as many angles shown as possible as reference for most of these.

I have tried to keep the descriptions short and if anyone has a suggestion for a model from the series (and a relevant minifig) I have not built I am open to requests. 😊

FONDOR HAULCRAFT

The Fondor Haulcraft was a class of starship that was used during the Imperial Era. Luthen Rael used a modified version of this starship.  Luthen Rael, of course, is essentially the leader of the early version of the Rebellion against the Galactic Empire and the Haulcraft is the signature ship of the first Series of Andor.   There have been a few versions of this that have popped up before mine.  The one thing I wanted to make sure with my model was that the wings were as fully articulated as possible.  I played around with hinges for a while but in the end the droid arms did the trick.  The engines on the wings are also included. Displayed obviously with a Luthen Rael official minifig.

MOBILE TAC-POD

The Mobile Tac-Pod was a model of troop transport and landing craft utilized by the Preox-Morlana's Corporate Tactical Forces, the Pre-Mor Enforcement, for the deployment of corpos to planetary surfaces.  The design of this has obviously borrowed heavily from the Republic GunShip.  It is built along a spine of bracket pieces. There is a nice trick used to solidify the attachment of the nose using a vertical clip plate in to the wedge at the front.  The single stud attachment in to the stud hole of the wedge I initially had used was quite flimsy and the wedge would turn quite easily.  The new technique also made the attachment of the front cannon easier.

I wish that wedge piece at the front came in an angular rather than curved version but this was the best piece available for the overall shape of the model.  I Especially like the use of the wheels for the engines on this one. Displayed with an official Syril Karn minifig.

MAX-7 RONO FREIGHTER

The Max-7 Rono was a simple box freighter model that could be used to transport cargo over long distances.  This custom-made Max-7 Rono could be launched from a ramp that had a track and overhead rail.  I have used the 1 x 6 bar pieces for the rails on this one after I spotted them in my son’s LEGO drawer and got inspired. These determined the overall size of the model.  The six engines have also been incorporated along with the 6 doors which open in to the freight compartment.  Displayed with a custom Vel Sartha minifig.

SENATE LIMOUSINE

A Senate limousine was a type of speeder used by Mon Mothma as transportation on Coruscant.  This is quite a simple little model.  I tinkered for a long time on the cockpit section but in the end kept it simple.  The overall shape of the cockpit is not completely right but at this scale sometimes some compromises need to be made.  It is actually nice to have some colour amongst these as everything else is mostly grey! Displayed with an official Mon Mothma minifig.

BREON DAYVAN

The Breon Dayvan was a class of starship, with one such vessel borrowed by Cassian Jeron Andor to travel to Morlana One in search of his sister.  This ship obviously looks like a Y-Wing with a much larger cockpit and hull area and supplementary engines.  It was the cockpit shape that was the biggest problem.  I tried various complicated designs but in the end the simplest way was the best way using the 6x3 round plate as the basis and layering around it.  The overall shape etc looks right based on source material but the model itself looks a bit too “new”.  I might mix some tan and light grey in with the dark grey or just say it was how it was fresh from the dealer! 😊  Displayed with a Cassian Andor minifig.

IMPERIAL PRISONER TRANSPORT

The Imperial prison transport was used to transport Cassian Andor to the prison planet of Narkina 5.  This design obviously borrows heavily from the Troop Transport seen in The Mandalorian.  This was a simple little build and did not take very long.  I think the use of the Minecraft eye plates for the portholes work well.  This ship should have 2 engines either side but that would have made the model too wide - the proportions appear to be correct as they are.  Displayed with a custom Imperial Prison Officer minifig.

ANDOR FAMILY SHIP

The Andor family ship was used on a salvage run to Kanari and to rescue a young Cassian from the Republic crew. Years later it fell into disrepair on Ferrix but Cassian continued to use it as a hideout.  This took a lot of freeze framing to get some decent reference pictures as there was not much out there. It is built mainly using the 1 x 2 x 2 bricks with studs on the front and sides on both the sides and the bottom of the main hull which allowed the cockpit section to be built to be 3 studs high whilst still being level with the hull.  I am happy with how the front section turned out.  The only thing I am not convinced about are the engines.  I wanted to use those new round half pieces and maybe they are a bit too large.  However, I did try this with the engines only being 1 brick wide and they looked too small.  The large engines looked better overall so I stuck with those. Displayed with a custom young Maarva Andor minifig - the torso is from Bilbo Baggins and works perfectly.

IMPERIAL ARRESTOR CRUISER

Colin Cantwell originally pitched the design of what would become the Imperial Arrestor Cruiser directly to George Lucas, for use in the 1977 movie Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, although it was ultimately discarded in favor of the Star Destroyer.

I built this model initially for Solo but have now included it here for completeness as it makes a proper appearance in Andor.  It is a fairly simple design with the only complicated part the “nose”.  It needed to be slightly tapered and bricks would just not cut it.  I have attached this using clip tiles and handle plates to attach the side tiles.  I have also then used door rail plates to close the gap at the front.

Anyway, here is the model.

FERRIX FERRY SHUTTLE

This is a simple little model and added here for completeness.  (Ahsoka collection is taking longer than i thought but is coming!).   It is built along a spine of bricks with studs on side and brackets.  No tricks involved in this one.  It adds a bit of colour to the collection and looks like the Ferry.  Job done.  There is also a custom Willi minifigure for the display.  Was he a spy or not is the question?

Let me know what you think.  Here’s to series 2!

Super work as always. The Fondor is my favourite, but other highlights for me are the connection to stabilise the front of the Tac-pod, and the ski pole for the imp stun batons.

Maarva is also great.

Thanks. The Fondor is my favourite too - it is the one i spent the most time on being the signature ship of the series.  I had actually built a stun baton using a light saber hilt and a bar with clip then saw the ski pole as the guns on the resistance x-wing polybag and realised that was much better.

Incredible. Would be nice if LEGO tried to do more proper mini sets like they used to.

Thanks again. Absolutely.  As you can probably tell I am/was a fan of the Planets sets!  They did not need the actual planets in them though and Lego could have sold them in a polybag without those which would have been a lower price point.

Again thanks. Yeah, one polybag a year at the moment when it used to be much more.  There are occasionally some nice little models with the Lego Star Wars magazine but they are not as detailed as official polybags.  They can be a good starting point for modding though.
