Sentinel Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 (edited) I’ve recently been looking into CVT designs and I think they are quite interesting. I had an idea today for one using a disk piece so I put together a cheap design to demonstrate it. it doesn’t have the capacity for a large load on the output as of yet, but it’s a good foundational design. 1980SomethingSpaceGuy Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 Yes, works now. Interesting idea, but mechanically weak indeed; I'm looking forward development on this! Quote
aFrInaTi0n Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 I think CVTs will be an area of just solving more and more issues when done in bricks, as it depends of some degree of freedom in the different axis, but on the other hand it will be benefitial for it to not have too much slack overall to function. No easy topic I believe, but all the best to find a good working solution! Quote
2GodBDGlory Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 That's a neat design, and looks like it might have a chance of becoming practical with enough reinforcement, which can't be said for most CVT designs! You might be interested in taking a look at this topic, where I did a somewhat similar design, though with some important differences: Quote
aeh5040 Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 One way to increase the torque it can handle is to trap the wheels between two discs which are held together. Quote
Sentinel Posted May 5, 2023 Author Posted May 5, 2023 I think it might also be better with part 6177 Quote
SUPER Max Black Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 I saw a similar idea, only instead of a disk there was a small ball and the structure fit in a 7x5 frame. In general, the idea is good. Quote
