Gentlemen,

Inspired by all the beautifull ships we can see here, i decided to try one.

But, even if i think she is not bad, there is something in the overall shape which bother me, but i can't identify it.

I wanted to make a Brig-sloop of the war.

Can you help me and find out what make it weird? What should i improve to make it better ? ( i'm not here to fake modesty, i really want to find what is the problem)

Thank you a lot.

Ye might want to raise the hull by a brick or a bit more. At the moment cannon ports are far too near the water line, that also applies for the forecastle. Ye might want to also make the vessel itself wider (except for the stern and captain's quarters, they seem fine as they are :pir-thumb:).

So, make some adjustments and let us know how she is coming along. :pir-classic:

(It would certainly be useful for ye to hear some ship expert opinions on this matter.)

Thank you. I'll try. I wanted to make it small(for price and to avoid molded hull) but it should be what you said: Too small.

Thanks.

Perhaps, if ye wish to make her small, ye should change the style of the vessel to, say, a brigantine? These are only my suggestions, I meself am no ship expert (currently building my first ship MOC :pir-classic:), do what ye think is the best. :pir-thumb:

There's nothing with the build it self, you got a tumblehome, a fully covered gun deck, can't be sure with it but seeing the guns are superposed I assume there's one, rails on the bow and a window-ed stern castle. If you can extend it with a few more hull pieces, you'll get a two decked warship. But if you are aiming to turn it into a brig or sloop, it should be longer, without covered gundeck, and the tumblehome on sloops isn't as pronounced than on ships of the line, basically you can build a sloop with perpendicular sides. From my own experience, it would be a lot easier to build something after a real world model.

Thanks,

but there is not a lot of real models of these little ships.

I'll try to find one.

Enjoy the rabbit hole! Ships to consider referencing would be USS Ontario, HMS Speedy/Sophie, Badger and Supply as well as the Cruizer and Cherokee class brig sloops of the Royal Navy. There's a lot mire, but that's what I can think if off the top of my head right now. All those mentioned are well documented and often modeled as commercial kits and plans are available from a number of companies.

Cheers! :pir-huzzah2:

Hello! I am also at the same stage as you. As a general advise, you should do some trials by working on the design of a small portion of the hull until you end up with sth satisfying before contemplating building the whole hull. To be fully honest, at first glance I thought you have designed a steam boat and was surprised that you intended to design a 18th century sail ship. I think, the curve of the hull is too sharp, you should try to you use some curved slopes. Widen the ships by 4 studs would be great as well.
