Posted July 12, 200816 yr Hi all, I have been meaning to post the completed Evil Wizards Keep for some time now! [small Rant: I have been waiting over 6 weeks to get the last BL order to complete my creation ] I have finally decided to post some work in progress pics to get some feedback from the EB community. This is my Evil wizard and skeletons lair in the volcanic wastelands complete with lava river, under attack from the Good Kings army. Jus some pics to whet the appetite.... I apologise that some pics in the album haven't been resized yet. look out for that locomotive in the distance! Album
July 12, 200816 yr Nice! I like the dark and light bley rock texturing - the landscaping looks suitably volcanic. The minerals forming out of the river of lava look good too. Good to see that the evil wizard is obeying Geneva Convention principles and feeding his prisoner as well!
July 12, 200816 yr Looks great so far, ISC! Some constructive criticism of mine would be to add more detail (probably coming with your order, right?) and maybe some different colors for the lava. Also, more knights/ skellies would be cool, although I think youll be putting some more in when its done.
July 12, 200816 yr this looks really good so far, i am guessing that the bridge is what is in need of finishing, the rest of it looks so complete already, as it is now it even looks finished, as it just looks like that with time the structure has fallen down! I like the chosen colours for the Castle/Keep, and i hope that lone soldier has some back up, other wise he could soon find himself turned in to a frog! Looking forwad to your finished product, Hurry up brick link, we want too see it finished! great work now do your entry for the MC competition Regards Cpt PB

Well, since you asked, the specifics are a continuation of the bridge once i get some of these There are plans afoot to erect a sentry tower atop the bridge (tee hee erect ) There will be a lot more skellies and knights to come. I was thinking of scattering some of these throughout the lava Thoughts? this looks really good so far, i am guessing that the bridge is what is in need of finishing, the rest of it looks so complete already, as it is now it even looks finished, as it just looks like that with time the structure has fallen down!I like the chosen colours for the Castle/Keep, and i hope that lone soldier has some back up, other wise he could soon find himself turned in to a frog! July 12, 200816 yr I agree with the others in that the structure looks good, and the lava works for me too (nice contrast!), but the tower is in dire need of details and decorations. You know, a few skulls here, some fires there, add a couple of flags or something... Now in it's bare state, it looks more like a ruin inhabited by two crazy old geezers. (j/k) Keep up the good work!
July 14, 200816 yr Author Just a quick update, my last BL order has finally turned up so i should finish the towers etc in the next day or so! Still looking for more constructive criticism. Thanks Sandy, i was looking into a flag atop the tower. I have tried out some orange and red transparent bricks in the lava and they dont seem to enhance the look all that well. Geezers On!
July 14, 200816 yr Nice work! I have no special criticism to make, excepting that Sandy said about more decoration with flags, skulls... Instead of that I have two questions: 1. Why is the Keep's bridge unfinished, or is it broken? I suppose it's for stopping the invaders isn't it? 2. What's that golden crystal doing in the middle of the lava?
July 14, 200816 yr Very nice landscaping. The tower could be a little bigger, maybe one wing of it precariously hanging over the lava, supported by stilts.

The parts for the rest of the bridge arrived today so it will extend right to the end of the plate. Thoug i was toying with the idea of stairs..... The golden crystal was kind of the unreachable treasure, but i like svelte's idea that minerals are forming out of the lava so i may add some more around the edges of the lava. Cheers Bluebard
July 16, 200816 yr This is looking very nice so far, I Scream Clone. A very formidable landscape, and a great place for an evil wizard to build his tower. I think it was a good idea to add some grey highlights to your tower, because all black doesn't usually turn out very well in castles, and makes it hard to see any details. The grey looks kind of splotchy and unevenly distributed to me, though. I don't really have any suggestions to improve that, but perhaps just looking at the colour blocking in 6086 could give you some ideas. Have you experimented with different heights for the tower? I think adding a bit more height could look good. The landscaping and lava stream are my favourite parts of this creation. The plants are a nice touch, because they help give the landscape a bit of variety, but I think the green looks a bit out of place. If you can, I would recommend replacing them with brown plants, or at least get rid of those flowers. Another suggestion would be to replace most of the rock closest to the lava with black, to show that it has been burned. I look forward to seeing your finished project!
July 16, 200816 yr Looks great and the design is great but the river looks more like blood due to its red color. Lava would be transparent orange with lamps lighting the underside of it.

Great suggestions Sir Dillon! im incorporating some of those as we speak. The tower is sooo tall now and overhangs the lava Looks great and the design is great but the river looks more like blood due to its red color. Lava would be transparent orange with lamps lighting the underside of it. I wish i could buy that many Trans orange bricks to make lava, however they appear to be rare on BL. Thanks to everyone who helped out with suggestions. The finished product is coming soon!
July 17, 200816 yr I wish i could buy that many Trans orange bricks to make lava, however they appear to be rare on BL.Thanks to everyone who helped out with suggestions. The finished product is coming soon! Wait for 8637 Volcano Base! I'd expect a flood of trans orange on BL then - it has 19 1x1 bricks and 20+ of the small 1x2x1 slopes. A fantastic volcanic parts pack all round.
