Moose Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Hi everyone, I'm a new member here (but a loyal viewer for months). I'm not sure if this has been posted before but here goes: My cousin was down for the fourth of july and i was building Skeleton Ship Attack. We got to talking and he offered me his entire collection of legos from when he was younger because he and his girlfriend only build the spongebob ones (weird). I've inherited both my brother and sisters collections years ago along with a few of my neighbors sets. So, I was wondering what your best Lego inheritance was? It can be a single set, a large number of sets whatever... Moose Quote
Siegfried Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Last week I got my sisters kids old LEGO. It was mostly bionicle (which I gave to my kids) but there were also some good sets in there! I also gave my kids the M&g@ Bl*ks and other parts I knew they would like and I gave the bin the other clone bricks. Aside from that I have been given some from a friend last year, that was mostly girl targeted sets. Quote
JimBee Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I just got a huge, ancient box of LEGO from my Grandparents that belonged to my uncle and father when they were young. The dates on the manuals are from 1975. Many useful parts in there (only the original colors, though), including some that aren't produced anymore, such as metal levers, certain doors/ windows, printed parts, and stringed parts (used in stuff like cranes). I also learned a very valuable lesson while building with these LEGO bricks; children of the 70's were tortured with DSSs!!! Quote
Mocha Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 hi the best for me is probly from my cousin... The RGS and a whole bunch of ep 1 and 2 sets... but i paid him in return. Quote
AFOL SF Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Years ago, a cousin of mine surprised me with a 'gift.' Knowing that I like Lego and could not afford to buy it, he gave me his favorite minifig. That's right, one minifig - my very first Lego (to own). The sad part is, someone took it from my parents' house and never saw it again. Quote
Axel Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I got a largish box of Lego from a friend of my aunt's a few years ago. And a few months ago, I got a huge box of...clone brand bricks. Enlighten bricks actually...at least it contained some chrome guns and cutlasses... Quote
Shoc Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I inherited a lot of Lego from my dad, from the 50's or 60's. The pieces are mainly white so they've gone quite yellow now, but the other, more unique pieces that aren't produced anymore are nice. My favourites of these are the window pieces with the red frames, my dad obviously had a lot of those too. The only picture I can find is this one: I have about one of these shuttered ones, but more of the normal ones. They're useful. :skull: Quote
SkyOtic Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 when my grandparents moved, i received the lego from my dad, from around 1969 to 1974 with instructions and a few catalogs. They were sorted in special lego boxes (made by TLC). and just like shoc i have some unique parts like windows, and doors smaller then a minifig leg. All other people in my family got kids and they received their old lego (if they had old lego ofcourse ) Quote
Dadster Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Cool thread... I haven't rec'd Lego from anyone older, but I sure plan on keeping my current collection in good shape for my kids', nephew, etc! Quote
Axle Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I inherited all my cousin's Legoa5 or 6 years agho, with classic castle and pirate and town stuff and recentley I received my Dad's friend's son's Lego with lots of Harry Potter parts, although there was a knight aswell. And Those old town windows and the old minifigs without moving parts. Quote

There was a Harry Potter set with a knight in it, that's probably it - the first Hogwarts set. :skull: Quote

Although I did get my second privet drive and my second hagrids hut!(Well, my brother owned the first one but it's broken up and in MAH box!) The knight was older, a fright Knight possibly, I'll find a picture of the helmet. Quote
Brainbox Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I got a huge box of Lego for free a few weeks (months?) ago from someone my mum works with. There were some quite nice pieces in there, and I even managed to salvage a few complete sets. I took some photos as I went along, but haven't got round to posting them yet. Bear in mind that it took about 3 weeks just to sort it all out and put it in the right storage boxes. Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Similar story, my uncle took all of his lego over to the cottage as a kid and left it there.....50 years later, I arrive as a young boy and play with said lego, but leave it there...flash to last year: I took the lego home and saw for the first time that I had the pieces from the original Town Plan. Talk about vintage! Quote
MoonCheese Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 (edited) children of the 70's were tortured with DSSs!!! What's a DSS? I didn't really get Lego from anyone older, although my grandma did buy some at a thrift store or something many years ago and I recently incorporated them into my collection. I think some of those are from the 70s. She didn't use them though, she just bought toys for me when I was really young, and they stayed there for the most part. (For many years, she lived in Metro Detroit while we lived around NYC and Buffalo, so it's not like I could go down the street to visit her like a lot of people could with their grandparents.) Shoc Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 What's a DSS? I spent a while wondering that, a few months ago, but it is a Dreaded Sticker Sheet. I didn't really get Lego from anyone older, although my grandma did buy some at a thrift store or something many years ago and I recently incorporated them into my collection. The same with me, when we were clearing out stuff from my Grandma's house a few months ago there was a box of Lego, mainly from the nineties, with a Space Police and Ice Planet 2002 fig. :skull: Quote
MoonCheese Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Yeah, I keep thinking of the Nintendo DS when I read "DSS"...or like Death Star Station or some other SW thing. My grandma also had a lot of a particular clone brand that was a bit bigger than Lego bricks and had fairly tall studs and like...slots on the bottom. Mostly they were white or transparent, with some black and blue (diagonal slopes were usually blue) and a few other colours. Plates were half brick height. There were a lot of curved "slopes" too, including a corner curved slope 2*2 with no stud. Quote
Lego12 Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 I have a TON of those! My dad gave me a box of Lego's from the 80's(I think) and it has the old wheels that have the metal rod! I also got the Black Seas Barracuda from my cousin for $70! Quote
