Seaber Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 A quick of for the forum team, is there any chance of a dark theme? All three themes available have a white background and if possible I think a theme with a black/dark background would be great. Quote
Artanis I Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 I'd like one of those themes too (with or without the cool banners). I don't know what happened to all the other ones (maybe incompatible with current software?) but I only see 1 actual theme plus 2 identical default [non]themes available. I think Hinckley made the old ones? Quote
Lion King Posted December 26, 2023 Posted December 26, 2023 I’m using Smart. Invert on my iPad and EB’s background is dark. I would like to see someone add “dark mode” option to EB for some users here. Quote
2GodBDGlory Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 I too appreciate dark mode, but I'm currently using Chrome-wide automatic Dark mode (Done via this tutorial: https://www.howtogeek.com/721117/how-to-turn-on-dark-mode-in-google-docs/#enable-dark-mode-in-google-docs-on-google-chrome), which does a decent job of converting Eurobricks, though some icons have strange contrast now. An integrated one would be great, but until then, something like this could be an option Quote
JesseNight Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 I'd love a dark mode too, my eyes are rather sensitive to big white surfaces on monitors. The theme is fine, but just having the ability to swap the white for black or dark grey and the text white would do the trick. (I considered Chrome wide automatic dark mode but a lot of websites I frequently visit look very bad with it) Quote
aFrInaTi0n Posted January 5 Posted January 5 I was working in this request in the past, I would like to get some feedback! Idea was to create a Javascript functionality which does the overwrites to be applied without reloading the site. This shall only be some way of delivering a option for users who like to have a dark mode enabled, without enforcing it for others. Also we hope that he vendor of the forum software will release their major next release in 2025, where they finally include a dark mode in their forums. Pro: Switching the state without reloads Persisting the user-decision in his own cookies on his device and respects them at future visits For the Future: Any (correctly prepared) theme could make use of the switch Con: As it is just working with setting overwrites on the original colors, that can happen just when the content is loaded, so there might be a short flashing on F5 / loading new pages How helpful would this implementation with a Dark/Light Mode Switch Button in the top user navigationBar be considered? *For the used colors in the video: it is just some dark values quickly put together for testing.. Best regards! Quote

While I appreciate a dark mode, such a button has little value to me. Because I will switch it one time, hope the setting will be stored in my account rather than a cookie, and will never look back. I don't know if there's people who actually switch it around more often. Edited January 5 by JesseNight Quote
aFrInaTi0n Posted January 5 Posted January 5 @JesseNight How often are you clearing your cookies if I may ask? Never came to my mind, that would not fit for somebody, as I am keeping my cookies on my devices, so my thought was "allows for persistence of the decision on device level". The only other solution then would be copying of themes and doing fixed dark themes. As editied in the the other post I see it more of a possible fast workaround to offer at least something until the forum software vendor offers their new major release somewhere this year, which has a dark mode implemented by them. I clear my cookies frequently because it adds up pretty fast. Not weekly ofc but at least a few times a year. Depends a bit on what sorta stuff I'm working on. The choice between a button or not would probably depend on whether there's people who do actually like to switch more often. Btw what should I think about when you speak of an "implemented dark mode" in the software? What would it be more than just a dark theme? Quote
aFrInaTi0n Posted January 6 Posted January 6 https://preview.invisionalpha5.com/ i can just offer you their example side - at least they have a theme switcher down there - but may also be relying on cookies. The beta is not our current scope as they already wanted to release in 2024 - or at least made it sounded like that to me. For regular cookie deletions, it would be one click after + it is in the top nav bar menu. But I get it, that the choice of a distinct dark theme would be a one timer, even outliving cookie deletions - but mine may not be able to offer that unfortunately. But it is very good to hear that it is not fitting somebody else, as it expands my view on the topic - wasn't thinking of that scenario before as I am lazy with my cookies.. :D Quote
aFrInaTi0n Posted January 6 Posted January 6 @kosnevmisha so for a distinct dark theme as Jesse mentioned and no javascript madness, right? Quote
JesseNight Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I think in the end most people (but correct me if I'm wrong) just care about it being there, and sticking... no matter how. In which case I'd rather opt for the more reliable method of it depending on a flag per user in the forum database, rather than on cookies. Quote
