I think this set will be retiring by end of this year? I could not find some info on this EOL somehwere but I swear I saw it.

This is correct.  r/legoleak keeps a spreadsheet of retirement dates.  These are taken from the Lego website (they aren't visible to people, only to a script).  These dates are generally accurate, and this set retires at the end of this year.  Don't wait if you want it.  It's a good build and I'd be sorry if I missed out on it, although it's just not as good a set as Barracuda Bay was.

Thanks! I’m not sure if I am picky or not but this El Dorado set doens’t scream for me to buy it.

I will have to wait for a “perfect” pirate ship like B-Bay ship!

If you want another pirate ship you need a fortress for them to attack, don’t miss out! Hehe

Eldorado is an absolute GEM of a set. I bought two of them, and I would LOVE a third (but Barad Dur is on the horizon). Take this however you guys want, but I have either owned or currently own, most of the Pirates and POTC lines, and I would ABSOLUTLY put Eldorado in my TOP 5, over the OG Eldorado AND Imperial Trading Post. Honestly, the ONLY other Imperial set you can argue being better is the BIG Imperial Flagship, all of the rest are a distant third.

I would also add that I wouldn't expect ANY new Imperial sets anytime soon after this. I don't think it sold very well, unfortunately, hence the early retirement. Which I also have other info, but thats just anecdotical. Evidence supports that Pirate ships sell, but forts... Not so much. So when a NEW Pirates sets gets released, I'd bet dollars to donuts that it'll be a new Pirate Ship (Hopefully SES). In the meantime, a new Harry Potter ship was leaked, and it looks GREAT, lot's of potential there.

Back to the topic, if you LOVE Imperials, don't miss the boat on this one. You'll regret it.

Each to their own.
I find this hugely disappointing. Covered in stickers, bland and boring and not really scaled right to anything. Hard pass, which is a shame because I had high hopes for this set.

Fair enough. I like it though, I think it has potential.

I too own (or have owned) all the original pirates sets and I have built and sold many of the POTC sets as well as the 10210 flagship.  The OG Eldorado and Trading Post are of similar quality to this, despite being 30 years older.  The raised baseplate takes away a lot of what makes this build tedious, and those sets don't have printing issues with the minifigures.  (The printing issues are wildly overstated in this thread, they don't really bother me, but I can see why the original figures are printed on white torsos).

I would love to hear your reasoning for what puts this set in the top 5.  B-Bay and most of the original ships are more visually impressive.  This is a good set, I do recommend it, but it's flawed in many ways.  More interesting angles like the Lion Knight's castle had, molded doors, more secrets and more variation in techniques used in the rock baseplate, more detail in the interiors, and finishing off the governor's office would have all gone a long way towards making this an excellent set.

Just finished some days ago to build Eldorado Fortress... this is, simply, amazing :pir-love: I've never had a lot of Imperials & Pirates sets, only two little ones from 2009 (Kraken attackin' and Cannon Battle) -so I've nothing to compare Eldorado to - but this theme always enchanted me. Now this set... I built it with my brother and we had a lot of fun! Probably there is something minor fixes to do and in the future I could decided to modify the set, but for me it's already perfect as it is.

Now it's almost time, near my birthday, to open and build my present: Pirate Ship 3 in 1. In the future I wouldn't mind some new sets with Imperials & Pirates: another ship or a pirate cove or a treasure island. :pir-huzzah2:

So I jumped over my shadow as we say in Germany and ordered 2 of the Governor's torsos with my latest PAB order. Now that i have the torsos in my hands I can say that the printing quality is abysmal as expected and I detest them. This "white" color looks so so bad :pir-sick:

Not the best to say the least… and prices have increased (at least in my region). I wanted to get a handful of governor’s hats but at 2.50+ each I am yet to pull the trigger.

They await you right here. :pir-triumph:

Good to see I am not the only one who didn’t pull the trigger… it’s a useful piece for sure but for the same price you can put together a fully decked out minifig of other designs I like. On a related note, I believe 10320 is retiring by year-end/while stocks last but I have never seen it discounted anywhere.

Well, out of curiosity, what would your top 5 look like?

As for the older sets you mention, I have to disagree, they feel objectively worse to me ; they have far less detail, and no interior caves under the baseplate.

on top of that, and while building with the baseplates is much faster, you literally can't put a figure on the ramp without it sliding down or falling, and that alone is enough to make me prefer the newer set, even if is more "tedious" (this isn't the colisseum, it's only a total of 700-800 parts that you build for the baseplate, and there is some variety).

My favorites:

B-Bay

Skull's Eye

Imperial Trading Post

Eldorado

BSB

6271 OG Imperial Flagship

Enchanted Island

[Eldorado redux somewhere around here]

Caribbean Clipper

Rock Island Refuge

I like the simplistic charm of the original sets.  I wasn't really into them as a kid, I got into them as an adult after completing 80s/90s castle stuff and looking for similar things to scratch the itch of guess what sets are in bulk lots on the goodwill sites.  I don't consider pirates as good as castle (I know what forum I'm on, fight me!) but they share a lot of techniques and designers (Daniel August Krentz gets a special mention for also doing my favorite space set, Message Intercept Base).

I quite like castle as well, and I guess I can understand the nostalgia towards those older castle sets influencing you towards older sets, but I really feel like that's clouding your opinion a little, newer sets are more detailed across the board (from 10305 to 10320, and even when you compare old town sets with newer city sets), which generally looks nicer.

Then again, older stuff does have a charm to it, so I can see where you're coming from.

Personally :

Pirates of Barracuda Bay

Imperial Flagship

New Eldorado Fortress

Original Barracuda

Skull Eye's Schooner

Imperial trading outpost

For me Pirates and Castle feel very equal in terms of design quality. I prefer the 80s and 90s style of sets from both themes because I feel many modern sets are too polished and have too many round pieces/specialized pieces that makes them to look less like building toys and more like non building toy scale models. But that is my personal preference and I think that the new sets like Barracuda Bay and Eldorado Fortress 2 are great, it's just that I prefer the older design language and parts. My favorite Pirates sets are:

6272 Eldorado Fortress

6271 Imperial Flagship

6285 Black Seas Barracuda

6279 Skull Island

6270 Forbidden Island

6278 Enchanted Island

6267 Lagoon Lock Up

6277 Imperial Trading Post

6286 Skull's Eye Schooner

6274 Caribbean Clipper

Honorable mention: 6268 Renegade Runner , 6263 Imperial Outpost and 6289 Red Beard Runner

Now I'll have to stop, otherwise I'll mention all Pirates sets :pir-triumph:

Does anybody know if set 10320 Eldorado Fortress is EOL in 2024?

I have been to some Lego stores in southern Germany recently where it hasn‘t been on the shelves. The store staff told me that it can only be ordered online.
