theDeanoRama Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 (edited) I've been trying to find a way to render a black cloth minifig cape in Stud.io and have it look right. I get a result that makes it appear to be plastic with a gloss finish which just looks wrong. The colour doesnt seem to matter, and I can't find a satin or flat black to try colour wise. Any tips? theDeanoRama Posted June 16, 2023 Author Posted June 16, 2023 Thanks @SylvainLS It never occurred to me to even try rubber. Probably about as close as I'm going to get. Quote
aFrInaTi0n Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 If Rubber Black is not working out I guess using Blender would be the only other way to go.. Quote
SylvainLS Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 Or custom colours. Note that having official “cloth colours” in Studio was suggested but the suggestion was rejected because LDraw doesn’t have them. Quote

Cloth is a highly anisotropic material and unless you create a special shader for it it will always look kinda garbage. This is indeed a case where you'd probably need a reasonably complex layered shader/ shader network in Blender or your favorite 3D app. Mylenium Quote
