I thought this would be a fun poll! I've only included spaceships, and only the largest for each year/faction. Which ones do you want the most if Lego does another Space Icons set? Vote for as many as you like.

To be honest I'd sort of rather the next throwback Space set be a base of some sort rather than a spaceship—and possibly something more loosely based on the classic bases (many of which individually are a little paltry), rather than a direct recreation of a singular set.

But I voted Saucer Centurion since as a set I fondly remember from my own childhood, I'd definitely be tempted to get it if they DID do a reimagining of it.

Yes! I want to do a poll for bases AND a poll for ground vehicles! But I have a feeling creating 3 polls would be frowned upon...unless I do them all in one post. Is that possible?

Nice! I feel like the Saucer Centurion is oft forgotten despite how good it is.

I voted for the Explorien Starship. It contains the first instances of LEGO Alien life (in fossil form)! Unfortunately, the fossil happens to look just like the Alien egg from the franchise of the same name. So, the crew are all goners.

Another vote for a base to be the next space nostalgia set. To accompany the Galaxy Explorer and variations.

Given recent releases, I'd go for a flagship for Blacktron to go with the Cruiser GWP, if it had to be a ship. Although I always liked M-Tron growing up.

Why settle with a throwback? Why not an upgrade versions or new space designs?

It's just a poll for fun, you're free to wish for new stuff too.

If we are going to wish, let's do it royale!

Don't get me wrong. The new 10497 Galaxy Explorer (1200 pieces) is a great set, but if we compare it with the Lion´s castle (4500 pieces) throwback, it feels short.

Many Space fans miss the landing pad or the small base the original had. Why not including extra features like a small blacktron spy vehicle? What about a raising landing platform? Something that shocks us down to our belly just like the old 80s sets used to do!

So what´s my point? If Lego is going to bring back another great space set, why not a bigger, beafier, better  version of the old one?

That's what this thread is all about. Vote for what you want remade as a bigger, beefier and better version of the original.

Have you checked out the Ground Base link in my signature? 😁

If you are refering to the one you can build with pieces left from the One man space ship, yes, it´s magnificent and a great idea I'll try to replicate.

I also saw you posted Giorgio´s Hangar 21. That one would be a great add on for the G. Exp.

That would be a great idea. To have an independent base which could be used by the G. Explorer. Yes, I would buy it definetly.

Honestly if LEGO does this I have no idea what they'd choose, the obvious options would be M-tron, Blacktron 2, space police or Ice Planet as the most popular they haven't touched, 3 of the four just an't be done anymore, so the question would probably be between another Blacktron or CS or Space Police

With Ice Planet,  M-Tron , Blacktron 2 , Exploriens probably out of the question due to the retirement of transparent neon orange / transparent neon green.

(they could still be remade wouldn't be the same with trans-orange or trans-bright green)

My choice would go to

  1. 6984: Galactic Mediator
  2. 6986: Mission Commander

  3. 6985: Cosmic Fleet Voyager

If trans neon orange would be made again 6973: Deep Freeze Defender would jump to #1 instantly.

As for trans neon green , it's still in a 2023 set in 40607: Summer Fun VIP Add-On Pack but it has not shown up in new 2023 regular sets,. but no new products are assigned the color, so after 2023, most/all of those current sets have been retired) , as has seen in a pallette list :

49 Trans-Fluoro Green: EXIT 31-12-2023
339 Trans-Fluoro Green Glitter: EXIT 31-12-2023

I'm not worried about this too much. I'm sure Lego can bring those back just as easily as they took them away.

Ice Planet is too good for them not to bring them back.

Very true, colors do get extended, and some have been revived before.

Dark Turquoise will always be the poster child of never giving up on a colour. Really, any colour could come back (though I suspect some of the niche, drab shades of the 90s won't just because who cares enough about Fabuland Brown or Medium Yellow to warrant a like-for-like recreation?) and the neons are popular enough that I think they'd be at the top of the list for a return.

Do we even know why they've been retired? Possibly it's as simple as no current theme depending on them, so the colours are being 'retired' until they're actually needed rather than eating the cost of keeping them in the rotation for use in a handful of scattered parts a year.

Many tempting choices, but I had to go with UFO, I loved the larger sets on the little catalogue sheets LEGO used to do and I only ever got the smaller impulse sets. The alien designs were my favourites and it is not a theme that has had many callbacks if any really.

Not to mention, I would love to see those dish shapes recreated with modern techniques in set design!

Fun poll

It's only n=35, but what this tells me is, there is no clear favourite area for them to focus on. Either anything they release will find some fans, or they're doomed to fail as most people won't want what they produce. Of course, the poll only allows one vote, so you can't really infer that people don't like the options they didn't vote for.

I really want a new space theme that incorporates purple and maybe another one that has teal. vio-tron (exploriens II?) is what comes to mind!

I voted for 4 things; dunno if that wasn't allowed

It is allowed! I voted for 4 things too.

You can even vote for all of them, but that's kind of like voting for none of them. 😁

I like those colors too. I like the idea of white & gray with trans purple windscreens, and teal & gray with trans red windscreens.

For me it would be Galactic Mediator or Deep Freeze Defender. If I could expand beyond large space ships, I'd also jump at a Mega Core Magnetizer update. Those 3 are basically the greatest hits of my childhood.

I voted for Starfleet Voyager, Cosmic Cruiser, Galactic Mediator, and Deep Freeze Defender, but my strongest preference would be for the Galactic Mediator. I really like the double-delta planform of the Galaxy Explorer, Space Shuttle, and Galactic Mediator, and I've spent a good deal of time musing about how to adapt the wings of 10283 or 10497 into a base for a modern Galactic Mediator. (No time messing about with it on Studio or IRL though.) The original version was about the same size as the modern Galaxy Explorer, but much simpler. A modem version would need only a modest bump in size to accommodate modern building techniques, but it could incorporate such improvements as a 6w-8w cockpit module with two to four seats, three point retractable landing gear, retractable or removable engines on the cockpit module (maybe inspired by the removable engines from the Dreamzzz Spacebus), a larger rover, improved prison cells with a better deployment function, better internal doors and more details and seating in the middle and aft lab sections, maybe a better-looking reduced version without the middle section ... So many fun improvements could be made to the Galactic Mediator, I think that's definitely the next remake I would want.

The (B2) Aerial Intruder is my all time favourite spaceship, but part of that charm is its minimalism, feeling somewhat skeletal. I can't see a throwback using a multiple of the original number of pieces do it justice.

So I voted for the (SP1) Mission Commander: it has great potential with its function for releasing the rover, the jails (and their connections), the detachable back section that could be a ground based detention center. And a couple of cute flyers too. For this ship the skeletalness (in places) does bother me a bit actually; more pieces could be used to great effect. The SP2 version looks more solid but also a bit boring (I really wanted it as a kid though).

In any case it should be better swooshable than the Galaxy Explorer!
