It all starts with the idea of Jose's Inn an the small alley, the other parts came by really fast.

There are 3 separat parts, the houses are not modular.

Well, I don’t participate in the contest so I do not need to overthink it: I like it very much, well done! Does it have any interiors?

A fun take on an old idea

Theme (story)

It's an outpost, and it has a lot of room for trade, but maybe add a couple merchants (instead of the soldiers), or even a small merchant boat, and could we please get shots of the interior? Since that is where much of the character of such a set comes from. But when it comes to the design, it looks charming, and similar to a colonial style port, with enough space to produce a variety of scenes. Now add a bell in that lookout tower and you could have an even more realistic outpost.

Build

Where to begin? The colour scheme is very white, but you successfully spice it up with a few other colours, the columns on the middle building are good, though they could be even more lavish with a cupcake piece on the top layer (or some other idea of your own making), and try to add a cheese slope or two sideways on the brown arch of the third building, like this there is a stud on top (gasp!) which looks out of place for that part of the build. Overall I love the execution of all three buildings (the third one, with the brown and white second floor looks really nice in my book, and the technique for the angled roofs is brilliant).

This is a really great entry! I love the level of detail and colour scheme - definitely something Lego would consider. I'm going to have to up the ante on my submission!

Ahoy @aex383 and welcome aboard!

Since Eurobricks forum does not allow upload of images directly to its server, you need to use some other image hosting platform like Flickr, Bricksafe... and then share images from there inside your post. Don't feel intimidated by this process, it's quite easy, just follow the tutorial inside the spoiler.

Aside from that, this is one lovely build, well done! :pir-thumb:

I love the look and style of buildings here, you have represented all of the main buildings in the Imperial Trading Post set as far as I can tell - the warehouse and lookout tower seem clear, but the other building seems to have been split into a small fort and the inn, which I think is a lovely touch.

There is one element of the original set missing here, and that's a crane! Perhaps adding a small crane or jib by the warehouse (I think this is the building with the ships wheel on it) and a small boat or rowing boat with cargo inside, that would make it feel more like the original.

Moving from the raised baseplate to a flatter location is fine, but I think the whole dock being a straight line rather than the original set which had lots of angles in the dock is less interesting, so maybe try moving some of the buildings around to get a more lively dock area.

The buildings all look incredible and I can't fault any of them!

The overall look and feel are top notch!  This would fit right in with @SleeplessNight's Lagoon Lockup Revisited.

I am not sure if I like the use of gold in the roof or not.  If I think too much about it, I dislike it, but it fits so nicely with the overall color palette you've used here that I think I'm OK with it.

I like the round balcony extending over the water, the greebling on the buildings, the balance of plants and structures, and my favorite bit is the beggar with the accordion.  To be honest, I am struggling to find faults with it, but there are a couple things:

  • Pirates are a bit too late in history, and on the wrong continent, for a half-timber building
  • The dock looks a bit repetitive.  I might break it up a bit -- perhaps a crane, or a section extending outwards, to break up the long smooth line of brown
  • There's a bit of sand that extends over the edge of the base, extend the base around it
  • The color palette here is nice, but it's a bit dull -- a red and blue canopy like Lagoon Lock-up had would really add some pop and visual interest.  Or, place a palm tree or two in between two buildings, being careful not to block too much of the scene.  Follow the rule of thirds.

Overall this is a really great entry, excellent work!

Well, I'm not sure, it would make things more varied for sure, but I think that a red-blue colour scheme is more fitting for a classic-style military outpost. This build is a realistic-looking port, so the blue would be out of place. Then again I'm not the creator (though I would maybe add a colourful sign with a sticker on it at the front of the inn, or of the middle building)

This is a very good entry! The place looks vey busy and there's a lot going on in here.

The sandy parts with palm trees on both ends are a clever idea as they provide a kind of closure to the whole thing, plus they give the tropical vibe which the classic Pirate sets are famous for. :pir-classic:

The roofs are well done and I for one really like the gold mixed with dark red.

It was a good idea to end it with a wooden pier at the seaward side. Makes you wonder what this would look like with some ships docked. :pir-laugh: All the buildings match each other nicely, and the weathered look of the walls is a nice touch which was accomplished in a very satisfactory way.

I see you've used a mix of bluecoat and redcoat soldiers under the same flag. While some people may question this, I see no problem with this. They may represent sailors and soldiers (ground troops) of the same nation, who obviously would meet in a harbour like this. The bluecoats may have arrived here on a ship.

About things which could be improved, I think you should definitely provide pictures of the inside of those buildings! We have an inn here, which looks like the beginning of an interesting story, yet we cannot see what's inside - is there a barkeep inside? Any bottles or food? Right now we only know it's an inn because of the sign. Same applies to other buildings.

And while we're at it, apart from the bar owner, a civilian or two would be useful - a trading outpost needs merchants.

One more thing, since this is not a remake of an older set, this means you are proposing a new set. Surely the hanging skeleton, while a bold and a generally good idea in and of itself, would never be used in a LEGO set. LEGO obviously uses skeletons in their sets, just not like this! :pir-skel:

Anyway, this is an awesome model and I can imagine several different stories to be told with this set alone - and dozens more with some ships visiting the place! :pir-sweet:

This is a phenomenal build, and I love so many of the details.

However just like with the other Eldorado rebuild entry, I have a few issues.

pros:

nearly everything

the roofs look impressive

the walled sections that cap off the peaks of the roofs are architecturally gorgeous

a huge scope and filled with detail

cons:

i don’t see any lego set including a noose

and lastly… the biggest complaint I have and I hate to say this because I love this build, but at no time did I identify this set as the imperial trading post, if it hadn’t been in the heading I don’t think I would have connected the two unfortunately.

This is an impressive build, but it totally misses the spirit of the contest. First of all, it's way too big, and way too intricate to be an official Lego set. It's just not fair towards other competitors, who keep their recreations or MOCs simple and small. Second of all, TLG would never EVER release a set with a hangman on a noose. Too gruesome, and never was a part of original set. Third, as @thewatchman noticed, it doesn't even slightly resemble the Original. It's fantastic as a standalone MOC, but as a recreation it fails horribly.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch - congratulations :pir-huzzah2:

I Object, Protest and boycott this unfortunate decision, and here is why! I'm sorry, but this is a contest entry, and frontpaging a contest entry gives an unfair advantage over others. It will get unproportionally more views, it will get much more popular, and as a result it will propably get more votes. How others can even compete with a FRONTPAGED entry? This is unfair and I won't stand for this. Please revoke the Frontpage status for this entry, or Frontpage ALL the Entries, so everyone will have equal standing, and equal chance of winning. You can frontpage it after the contest, but NOT NOW, when every view, every positive comment counts to sway the voters in your favour. AND JUST TO BE CLEAR: If my entry was frontpaged, I would also ask to un-frontpage it.

@Mister Phes: What do you say? Usually contests are not decided by number of views but decision of a jury.
Anyway, I cannot delete the fp entry, I could only change it to something else.

This particular contest isn't decided by selected members of a Jury, but a public vote. As such, a prestigious award of Frontpaging an entry can significantly sway the decision of the voters. As a member of the moderation team of Eurobricks, it is your duty and responsibility to pay attention to such things. Now it's up to you how to fix that. There is no way or point to compete against a frontpaged entry, so if you won't make amends to other participants, I will be forced to unfortunately quit the contest. Anyone is with me on this?

I don't think there will be a frontpage effect in 2 months time.

You can never be sure about that. Besides, it is still unfair towards other participants.

Look at it like this-political scandals get forgotten within a month, nobody will even remember this by next week. If you weren't a contestant, would you really, but I mean really, mind?

Yes, I would. Even if I wasn't a participant, I would call for justice. It is imperative to me as a member of this site, that everyone here can have equal chances. And since I AM a contestant, I demand justice and equality with twice, nay, THRICE the conviction and fervor. If I, or other contestants can't win against one entry with the advantage of Eurobricks staff's favouritism, and free advertisement on the very frontpage of the site, then what is the point of entering the contest anyway? I hope other participants join me and also speak out about it. I'd like to know their opinion as well. Am I right? Or am I overreacting and making a fuss over nothing?

I'm curious what you were going for with the use of gold on the roofs? It's an interesting choice but without knowing what the intention behind it was, I'd sooner think a color like bright red might fit better with the other dark red shingles.

I do agree that the front paging certainly does give an an unfair advantage, especially if voting will be advertised there.

If it’s the only entrant that they have seen, and don’t understand the scope of the contest, people will almost always vote for the biggest moc that they can.

Exactly! Thanks TheWatchman!
