Posted July 2, 20231 yr I had so many pirates that I realized I better start making some imperial boats! This boat has a 12 minifigure crew and neat little details in the mix. Ive included a jail cell below deck with a sliding barred doors containing a poor pirate skeleton along with cargo. Above I've included gold embellishments the establish that Governor Broadside spared no expense in this vessel. Unfortunately I am only able to load one image, but hoping to post more images on my instagram @veriyolki
July 2, 20231 yr Nice! The old Clipper definitely needed an upgrade. This version looks like it could hold it’s own against the Barracuda.
July 2, 20231 yr I love that you've added this on the retro box art. My only feedback would be that the blue at the front and back both look a little 'boxy' - although this could be a limit with part selection. Well done.

To share images you need to use one image hosting platform, like Flickr or Bricksafe... and once you have that simply follow the tutorial. As a fellow shipbuilder, I warmly suggest adding something (anything) between the forecastle and figurehead to fill the gap and smooth the transition. Ships are all about the curves. Best of luck in the contest HOW TO UPLOAD PHOTOS - Click Spoiler Hide contents 1. Go to your Flickr (or BrickSafe) account and open one picture in the new tab. 2. Click view full size 3. Copy the url address: example on the picture (same is for BrickSafe) 4. Paste the address inside the post (click edit post), and the system will automatically embed the picture inside the post. July 2, 20231 yr This is a powerful looking ship, I'll wait to see more photos before commenting further though, looks good so far. I went to your insta incase you'd already uploaded them there and have to say you have a very lovely looking cat
July 2, 20231 yr I too would like to see more pictures before giving too much feedback, but: You have set yourself up for quite a challenge, recreating one of the most-loved pirate sets of all time. This looks like a very nice build full of great details. Gesso, or starch, and iron your sails -- it'll do a lot for the presentation. I like the tumblehome, blue and gold color scheme, and overall look of the ship. But, both the fore and aft-castles are too square, and the back suffers from a "wall of blue" appearance. A ladder on the side, or some additional cannons, would be excellent. Can't wait to see more!
July 2, 20231 yr A powerful ship (I'll wait for more pics before making a full review) -This ship serves an immediately obvious purpose ; to scare the living heck out of any pirate nearby, and it looks imposing so that's nice. -The build uses a nice variety of classic style colours, but as others have said, the back is too blue. Personally I'd love if you went for an outright lavish back, using a few different colours, the whole ship really would look even more powerful with an all round layer of gold details, not just a few (well-placed) splashes. The cabin's potential is huge ; a few more windows (and gold/yellow) and it would be perfect! -Someone who makes their own custom sails gets a bonus from me, but maybe try to straighten them out a little? Again, these are all minor nitpicks that would truly bring this excellent model to life.
July 3, 20231 yr I always like to look at upgrades of the good old Caribbean Clipper, since I always thought the set was too small compared to its pirate counterpart. Those guys needed more firepower! I've checked out your Instagram but can't see any more pictures of the ship yet. Anyway, I like it that you've added a full main deck above the cannons. I was really missing that in the original CC. Same with a captain's cabin with a DOOR. I always thought it was unfair that Redbeard had a cabin with double doors and Broadside had NOTHING. With its more menacing size, your ship could engage the Black Seas Barracuda in a fair fight! Now on to the things which I think could be improved. The sterncastle is too wide and too large. Plus it's too cubical in shape, with too many right angles. And the back wall behind the helmsman is two studs deep, making it too thick - one stud should be enough. The bow part on the other hand looks too similar to the Barracuda Bay ship. The railing and the windows are almost identical. Only that ship had those yellow flexible thingies that gradually widened the bow. Yours does not, and therefore looks too blocky. Actually your ship begins with two vertical walls - one below the figurehead, and one behind it. She definitely needs more inclined surfaces, parts there wedge out instead of abrupt edges. This still looks good and like I mentioned earlier, bluecoats always deserved a better ship! With some more work you could turn her into a real beauty which would put shame on the real Caribbean Clipper. Edited July 4, 20231 yr by Dreamweb
July 3, 20231 yr Ah classic shipbuilding! You’ve really set yourself up with a difficult task here, given the time frame; last time I did a ship build it took over a year until I felt that it was ready. So let’s get too it. pros: Updated clipper is always cool More ships are always good colours are close to the original set cons: it’s blocky its really blocky double walled stern castle needs some refinement or further design given some time I really think you could make this something really incredible, maybe opt for some brick built sails too?
July 17, 20231 yr Looks great so far I love the sails and the sparkling masthead, but there are some things I will suggest, first, the ship could be touched up with more curves and the front of the ship extended with curves towards the masthead, the only other thing is the front and rear of the ship needs a little more white to add to the visual appearance. Other than that it looks great! I look forward to seeing the final product if you plan to update it. Happy building :)
July 18, 20231 yr Excellent presentation in the picture! At a quick glance I thought I was looking at a real LEGO set's box art! You've done an excellent job with your color theme -- the blue and white are the perfect crisp contrast. I particularly like the small detail of the blue shutter over the cannon portholes. There are two things I would consider tweaking: 1) The ship's mast head seems a little too small given the powerful density of the ship. I like how you used the white wings and the gold figure head. I would see if you could build up the bow of the ship to meet the to meet the bowsprit (the thingy that sticks out the front that the sail attaches to). 2) You've done a great job shaping the back of the ship/quarter deck. The front, by comparison, seems a little boxy with the exposed studs. I would see if you could add some slopes to give it a little more curve. Once again, excellent job with the gold detailing throughout -- it stands up nicely against the blue and brown! Hope to see some updated pictures soon. All the best! -Bethany
August 11, 20231 yr It looks nice on the presentation, folks could be fooled if it wasn't for those untidy sails ;) But it's definitely out of scale! That stern is GIANTIC! Got this feeling like if Soldiers were Smurfs who took over this ship. And the whole vessel is kinda fat realy, like a water bulldog ;) So i guess what it could use is scaling down a bit, especialy that stern, or lenghtening it. But with all the work You've done Your presentation seems very restrained, one photo and i'm surely it could gain more voted if You could show is what's inside. Stern alone is so big there's surely something interesting in captain and officers quarters right? And that's just one area, i wonder what's under that main deck. Surely those guns below should be reachable, so i guess it's openable somehow? Either fromt the top of the deck, or from the side of the board? Same foes for the stern, classic pirate Baracuda had an option to easily access captain quarters, did You engineer something similar in here? I alspo think that such a big galleon could use a boat. Or if a boat is too typical than maybe some other kind of landing craft. I've read that sometimes galleons had this kind of a recoinesance yacht, that could be carried onboard in parts, and then put on the sea when assembled. OR, since You have so many minifgs included, then maybe some of them could be turned into Pirates and they would be the ones with a a craft, trying to sneak onboard, ha? Still, it's an impressive work. A lot of us dreamed about having a proper big Soldiers' ship in the franchise and i guess many would prefer Your version instead of that monster they've officialy released some time a go ;) Couple of updates and who knows? Maybe You could launch as a project in the Idea and fans and Lego people would fall in love with it? ;)
August 12, 20231 yr Wonderful design! I agree with other comments that the bow could use some tapering and calling for modification of the stern wall - it probably doesn't need to be so massive and could use something to break up the blue monotony (perhaps lowering it and/or adding some openings so that sailors on the deck can see behind). I feel like the stern cabin feels a bit boxy; the sides at its front should rise up to the poop deck more gradually. I would also add a spanker sail like on 21322 and stairs/ladders to access the poop deck (if they aren't already present).
