After months of break, I decided to continue my tractor series MOC creation and then TC25 kicked off. I'm trying to build a tractor in similar scale with my other tractor MOC, which is 56mm front wheel and 75mm back wheel. Of course, the chassis and bodywork will be newly designed.

I chose 8284 and will try to accommodate its features into the smaller scale, not include the clutch function I guess. To have a good reference, I will build a 8284 using my part storage and post comparison photos with the smaller version in this thread, so please keep tuned.

Looks good so far. How are you going to route the steering? Are you going to use idler gears just like the original?

No, not exactly like the original, I'm using a blue 20 teeth clutch gear on the engine axle to route the steering. Will put the pics here soon

Made some more progress. The proportion is a little bit off, will adjust it later.

 

@Thirdwigg Here is a close look at my steering solution, the blue clutch gear drives a 12 teeth gear underneath.

The shrinking process turned out to be more difficult than I thought since my goal here is to achieve as much as proportional with the original set. Here is some progress, still lots of places need rework.

Love the 8284 it’s so open and ‘Technic’

But because it’s so open I think that yellow 20T under the seat should be changed to a gray 16T driven by another 16T off the HOG axle, the size of the gear and the colour will ‘hide’ it all better…IMO.

A good suggestion, thanks! I'll change to a black 20T to hide it a little bit. I'm stick to the 20T and 12T to have the better steering control here. 16T will make the steering feeling more direct to my taste. 

 

A another update. The chassis and hood have been basically rebuilt and now it looks a tiny bit more like the original set.

Rebuilt the central chassis, seat, eng block and now it looks like this.

Also made some progress of the original model, they are at similar stage in the pictures. I'll try to keep the steps of my instruction somewhat aligned with the original model.

Love your approach to dual-build the models :-)

Altogether, it looks really great! Two little things came into mind:

Have your tried to swap the 16T gear HOG for two half bewel 12T?

The hood looks to narrow in my opinion. Can you make it to 4 stud width?

Good idea! I'll try that. I've also got rid of the 20T to 12T bewel gears on the HOG path to make the HOG axle further front to make the model look more like the original. So @MangaNOID I gave up my attempt of the better steering control feeling in the end.

, I'll try that as well. 70% of 5 studs is 3.5, so 3 or 4 are both reasonable value. Using 4 studs wide will also allow more details at the front and currently, I'm not satisfied with the solution of the front end, it is a little bit wobbly.

Great job, and it's fun to be at about the same stage as you. I also would be interested to know what a 4 stud hood would look like.

Also, I would love to see it with some wheels too!

Finally almost finished the tractor itself, most of the work has been done in last weekend

Made a funny and stupid move below as removing one set of gear resulted opposite steering control... I must have been too obsessed with its look back then

Not sure myself. I think the front hood looks great. In fact the whole build looks great well done! 

maybe the roof looks a shy to low on the first pic with the wheels on though. Must be the angle as the second shot looks ok. Something makes that first shot look ‘squashed’ maybe the visor makes the windshield look to squashed??

Actually it might be that black flex axle at the bottom of the windscreen making everything looked squashed? It’s not really on that position above the hood on the original. Just my take though you can’t please everyone 😅

Okay here comes nippicking on the highest level:

- one additional liftarm in the middle of the front would make the model more balanced and also still capture the look of the original, I think

- swapping the yellow half bushes for LBG ones in the fake engine

Spent a lot of time during the weekend for the instructions, now the tractor has been built.
