Those are some game changing parts. But I can’t help but see some similarities to this gear shifter with the relatively new CaDA equivalent.

Those driving rings are also 2 long like before. Very interesting for sure.

Well, for years Chinese companies have been getting inspiration from LEGO parts; it's only fair that TLG occasionally gets some from them too.

This link is dead.

Maybe everyone was too soon with posting. And big Brother (read TLG) is watching us..

TLG has moved the embargo on the 42159 set at the last moment. But not everybody got the memo. TLG being TLG.

Is that real? All our transmission dreams came true?

Can you explain in more detail what you mean? Not an expert when it comes to gearboxes.

I do see some interesting stuff in the gearbox pic.

Edit: It looks like it will be easier to turn a rotary movement into a gear shift.

Super pumped about these parts. The bike looks fine, but those gearbox parts look great.

Is it a 3 speed gearbox?

I think there is a selectable 24t gear too. Sorry, my English fails

This is looking to be very interesting. This seems to be the first case of a gearbox with 3 speeds where all the gears are on two axles, like in reality.

Not sure yet how the yellow "stepper wheel" works, and how the medium azure thing has 8 positions. My guess is that putting it on the axle the other way round will shift things by 45 degrees. Also, there are letters on the azure thing that are probably there to indicate stuff.

Also I'm very curious to how smooth everything works with those orange sliding things. In any case, it's good to see the new 24t gear and the new shorter driving ring (always hated how the new driving ring is a full stud longer than the old).

But IMHO, TLC has shot themselves in the foot by using blue and azure for the recent "normal" 12t and 20t gears. There's rhyme nor reason now to gear colorings. It's good that the 24t is red, to indicate it's "functionally the same" as the 16t, but they should have made all cross-hole gears in basic (dull, grayscale) colors and reserve bright colors such as blue for all the round-hole gears. Right now, there is no functional relation between color and gear type. I think both the normal 12t and 20t could have been white, or dark tan, or reddish brown. Those colors won't confuse with existing gears, but are still basic enough to indicate "normality".

Anyhow, looking forward to seeing the reviews. Also, glad I didn't buy the skidder just yet...

You definately did, ripping my pictures I posted and not even giving credit :)

Sorry for the omission of credits, I added it. I don't get what you meant by ripping, because I posted photo links from amazonaws uploaded through Brick Fanatics, which you can verify by hover the cursor on the photos, and the forum loads the photos automatically. I didnt download them and reupload them on a separate server and claim as my own.

This is my  gripe with color vomit.  Which I will not go into.  But I will just say I can handle the vomit if it were to serve a function.  But I agree, it does not, and therefore the stench of the "vomit" is strong....

I think the stepper is visible in this photo.

It's probably the 3x5 triangular thin liftarm that pivots around a DBG 8L axle with stop in the middle, and at both ends there are two double perpendicular connectors that are connected to pin hub with 180 degree axles which serve as pushing pins, similar to the paddle shifter mechanism in the 1:8 supercars.

Maybe they implement a Geneva drive?

Everyone! There is also new, shorter gearbox change element, only 2 studs long like the old version! And it has 8 instead of 4 engagement teeth.

Funny how Technic goes from 2-stud-driving-ring which everyone complains bout due to 0.5 stud offset to 3-stud-driving-ring and then back to 2-stud-driving ring
