The mad lads did it! YEEEEEEES!!!!!!! And no I don't think they are ripping off the Chinese. If you look at these parts and compare them to my own then I am pretty sure they just listened to us, and for that I am so greatful that I can almost forgive the colour coding! .

Oh my god, I can't believe they really introduced these pieces...!

Has somebody figured out the settings of the changeover ring? Why 8? Seems only 4 positions engraved and the rest are just transition positions?

8 pisitions is useful if you have a 45 degrees offset as with knob gears. You just have to make sure shifter shifts by 90 degrees and not less. 

This gear box parts remind me of something. nice to see something similar becomes real

I don't think that's the case with these parts as the shift positions are A and D, positions B, C, E, F, G and H are neutral. Positions A and D are not offset by either 90 or 180 degrees, but by 135 degrees. It's very much like mine which shifts in 45 degree increments.

This will look good next to the BMW. So I’m assuming from the posts so far that there’s some cool new gearbox parts. I tried to work out what each part was from the photos but I’m not a gearbox designer. So I’m hoping you all come up with some nice compact gearboxes.

Anyone got some more screenshots from sariel's review? Wondering about the price/value of this as it looks barebones compared to the BMW.

I think this is the best year ever for Technic in terms of new parts. I can see a lot of Pick a Brick orders for the new transmission parts once they become available, it feels like a repeat of 2018 and 42083.

42159 also has 3 recolours in the gold large motorcycle shocks, black motorcycle hubs, and yellow rear shock.

Wow! This reminds me of the excitement I had back in 2018 when the Chiron was unveiled!

We get:

24T clutch gear: A super obvious gearbox part, that we should have had for ages! This and the 32T gear were the most obvious holes in the gear collection, so I'm very pumped about it! I'll have to 3D print and start using them soon, since it's "legal" now!

EDIT: With some help from this guy (https://grabcad.com/dk)'s 24T differential model in his Land Rover Defender, I've now got a model all ready to go for that!

Fancy inverse wave selector/sliding catch: I've got mixed feelings about this one. It looks super smooth and nice to use, but at the same time, it's massive! I think for most applications I'd stick to the old wave selectors, but these look very interesting anyways! I'm curious about the description of them having 8 positions. Are some of these positions duplicates of others, or are they all different, allowing for easy 8-speed gearboxes?
Stepper wheel: This looks fairly handy, though I guess it remains to be seen how compact and reliable it can be.

2L driving ring: This one's a big surprise, but I'm quite pleased with it! I think 3L ones were really only worth it from 2015-2018, since the wave selectors made them somewhat obsolete. Having a 2L one that works with modern gears will allow for even more compact gearboxes, and the 8 teeth on them is a boon for backlash!

I agree with the comments about it looking like a confetti bomb... But I will definitely pick this one up as all the new gearbox pieces make this a pretty interesting and exciting build. Not a fan of the DBG along the side so will probably black it out a lot more to look more like this:  

Should look great next to the BMW, these sets provide a nice change from the supercars... Its also nice that there's no where near as many stickers as the BMW.

There's also some interesting trans black? little panels on the front of the bike + we get the larger shocks in yellow now as well!

 

 

 

Kinda neat how the rotary catch holds the ball joint knob back and forth, pushing the forks back and forth and in turn moving the driving rings.

Seems much closer to a real gearbox now.

Finally some pictures of this set, and good ones at that. Looks great overall, like that they included a sidestand which the M1000RR was missing. Only complaint is the 4x8 Yamaha plaque on the display stand, wish it was a 8x16 info plaque like the BMW has. Surely Lego knows that a lot of people would want to display both 1:5 bikes together?

DC = left/neutral        (1st gear)

This would give a 3 speed gearbox, with neutral above 1st gear as on a real motorbike.

@ord I think that's very likely correct.

@allanp my only question is if the catches are hard coupled or not. It appears the answer could be yes, and they have axle holes on either side that are 45° out of alignment:
