maiq the liar Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 "Dear lego: if you do not release 4999, i will get a PDF of the instructions and send them to mega bloks. Love, M'aiq." Quote
CP5670 Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 (edited) This looks like an awesome set, one of the few recent ones that I would have bought immediately upon release. The lighting system is a brilliant idea. If the limited distribution rumor is true, it makes no sense from either their own point of view or the fans', but at the same time I have seen TLG make so many questionable decisions lately that I'm not really surprised. It's yet another reason why I like Lego the product, but not the company so much. But if you're a Vestas customer, you can buy this thing? Anyone up for buying some (real) wind generators? Oky Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Honestly, I don't get the excitement about this set. Sure, it's a pretty neat set and all, but I mean come on! We have the instructions! So why would it be so difficult to get a Power Functions set and bricklink some airplane hull pieces and white, long, wedged plates, and build it from your own collection? Just saying... Quote

Holodoc Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Instructions of 4999 are available in Lego.com Wow! Thank you very much for the information, whung. The instructions are very interesting. Now that I know what bricks are used for the mast I realize how big this thing is. I love the small kitchen in the house and the 'whatever this is called' inside the Vestas van. Let´s see what I have to order from BL... Quote
Derek Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Wow! TLC posting those insructions is basically rubbing the fact we cant have it in our faces. I mean, there are so many cool little details I didnt notice from the box pics, like the interior of the house, the cool little door on the back of the pole, or the little patio chairs. darthperson Quote
metalandi Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Wow, that's quite interesting. Them posting the instructions makes it more likely for me, that it will be released to the public, actually. Let's see what happens! Going to check out the instructions to this lovely set Quote

metalandi Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I just realized TLG used about the same building technique as rupi used in his 5th comic regarding the top 10 most hated Pieces: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/rupi/Top...uards_comic.jpg That's hilarious! Quote
CP5670 Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 (edited) The inverted roof piece that is used in the mast is not very widely available... The same applies to the PF light piece and the green BURPs. The former has only appeared in the $120 Off Roader set so far. This set is especially appealing to me because the concept is something new and unique. The usual range of police and fire sets that are common in the city theme are good and all, but I already have many similar sets. This, on the other hand, might be the first power plant they have ever come out with, and certainly the first city themed, minifig scale one. Edited August 5, 2008 by CP5670 Quote

The PF lights are available in the new PF moter set released a couple of days ago for 34,99. With that little set you have all the electronics you need. One question for you guys who studied the instructions is the blade rotation being slowed? Otherwise it would look more like a ventilator Quote

Otherwise it would look more like a ventilator i don't know, there are a few gears in the 'motor', so i'll have to say yes... or it's just for the motor not burning up! that PF motor set is a good alternative for the electronics, then you'll only have to buy the PF extension cables... anyone found those airplane type bricks on the blades already? well, if they're not releasing it it's just sparing up parts until you have the complete thing collected... Might not be too hard seeing that there aren't many special parts you'll need.. Quote

Klaus-Dieter Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Thank you very much for the links to the instructions, whung! Having seen these instructions, the set is even more awesome than when we only see the box pics of this brilliant set! It's simply perfect with the nice interior of the cottage, the terrace, the lovely landscape and of course the wind power plant itself! :oh: I really hope that TLG and Vestas now decided that this excellent set will be available for us, too! BTW: We shouln't hope against hope (Why should TLG publish instructions of this set if it is only a very limited promo set which even should be secret for the public until now? ). Klaus-Dieter Quote

You have to scroll through them to see it. That still leaves the green BURPs though. As far as I know, those don't exist in any other set. I suppose you could substitute them with piles of standard bricks though. Quote

Klaus-Dieter Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 No, no, no - I want to buy the original set or nothing! BTW: It's strange: The instructions disappeared. So perhaps we won't have luck and it's really only a promo set for Vestas customers. (Perhaps TLG decided to show us the instructions that we can build it with own bricks ( ) but Vestas complained about this because they want this set to be really only in the hands of their customers. Nevertheless I don't hope so! I really want this set so much! I think it's now really time to let us know whether it'll be available for us, too, or not! Klaus-Dieter Quote
metalandi Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Hmm, that they're disappeard is strange, but i think it hasn't say too much. The Factory space set instructions also were just there a little time, and these are available for everyone. Let's see what the next days/weeks bring, but one thing is sure, if i see that anywhere on ebay later, it is as good as mine! Quote

It's already on ebay.de - but already now (auction is until Saturdy) it's about 300 Euros - so already now two times the price I'm aible and willing to pay! BTW: It would only have negative implications for Vestas and Lego if they don't sell this excellent set to the public - they would give away a lot of profit (TLG for the sets and Vestas probably for the licenses) and their popularity at their customers (mainly the popularity of TLG) would surely drop away. CP5670 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 (edited) I'm not sure why any buyers of wind power plants, which would basically be big companies, would be interested in a toy like this anyway. Are Vestas' own employees eligible as well? And yeah, it will always be around on ebay, but we'll have to pay through the nose to get it over there. I would not buy it at those prices. Are Vestas' own employees eligible as well? I totally agree with you, CP5670! That's exactly which I wrote in my email to TLG, too: If this set is only for Vestas customers: I really doubt that there will be many Vestas customers who are interested in this awesome set. They surely won't throw it away, but selling it for hundreds of Euros/Dollars on ebay, BL, ... The people which then would get this brilliant set are only people with a lot of money or bosses of big companies - and I really don't think that the majority of them plays with Lego or collects Lego sets. Fact is that if TLG doesn't release this set for public I regrettably must they that they'd do one of the biggest - or even the biggest - mistake in their decisions during the whole time of Lego's existence. Many of us - me of course included - would pay a lot of money (not endless, but surely until 150 Euros) to get this excellent set because we really want it so much! So please TLG and Vestas release this set for the public! Klaus-Dieter Quote

BerndDasBrot Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I think they took them down while I downloaded them. So I only got the second part... But I believe the will reappear soon. Quote
