slusho! Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Just to keep you guys up to date, all Vestas UK staff have now recived a set of the vestas wind turbine (4999). Expect to see lots on e-bay over the next few days, we were told that lego were producing 26,000 with 17,000 going to vestas staff and the rest for promo use only, but who knows! im sure having them on general sale would benefit both parties?? Im still not sure what to do with mine? Should i open it?? Quote
Skipper 24 Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 (edited) Nice! Are you going to post pics or are you going to save it unopened? Edited September 23, 2008 by Skipper 24 Quote

pr0visorak Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Sorry for going off topic for a while but limited,if you are not interested in lego than why are you here.Anyway, back on topic. The set looks really nice,it would be great to put a few of those up for a nice farm backdrop. Quote
CopMike Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 From Jan Beyer Community Development Manager at TLG: Only from my understanding: As far as i know and what everybody who should know told me the set is exclusive for Vestas which means will not be sold anywhere else. Vestas got the sets delivered so they can do with the sets what they like. .......... (CopMike remark) I do not know why the BI (Building Instructions - CopMike remark) is again up on consumer service. So much from me. Jan CopMike Quote
metalandi Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 They don't seem very professional there, one person doesn't know what the other does. Everybody "thinks he knows" something but nobody really knows anything accurate, that's really ridiculous Quote

Dr. Brick Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I sent LEGO a mail to ask about the set and said Vestas doesn't want it to be sold... Dr. Brick Quote

metalandi Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 How can a wind turbin factory who has about zero clue about lego decide if it's going to be sold or not? That seems so ridiculous to me, i'm speechless Quote
Hinckley Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 The Buy It Nows on eBay are at $740 USD. I hope people aren't paying that for it. It's a very cool set, but that seems a little out of control to me. I don't understand why Vestas wouldn't want it released. You think they'd want the brand awareness. I believe LEGO could release the design in some other form. Remember the Maersk ship? When they said they weren't going to produce the maersk blue anymore, they were ready to release a dark blue, non-Maersk version. Since the demand for this is so high, you'd think LEGO would find a way to produce it. IMO, not releasing this and the debacle with the Advent Calendar makes me think they need some quality control and better communication over at TLG. And I'm not who is big on TLG-bashing, but they should really consider removing their heads from their megablocks. Kids, don't follow my example. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 From Jan Beyer Community Development Manager at TLG:CopMike Thank you very much for that news, CopMike! This is really bad news since this is a statement of a high ranked official TLG employee. Again really bad news since this comes from an official side of TLG. So it seems as if Whung's list was wrong. I don't understand Vestas point of view, too. And I don't understand TLG. - And I don't understand the world. Can anyone tell me one reasonable matter why this awesome set shall not be sold for the public?! TLG and Vestas could make a lot of money when releasing this set. - But supposably they aren't in need of this and it seems as if they don't care about what their customers think about them - bad decsision for the future when wanting to keep their customers! Eilif Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) Despite the latest news, we have not gotten an absolute "No, Never, not ever, in any form" from LEGO, so all this fuss seems a bit unseemly. Come on everyone, just cool your heels a bit and save the outrage until 2009. After all, the 2009 set list did mention a VESTAS set.. I would like to have this set released to the general public as much as anyone (I would buy it for sure), but , what's up with this undeserved sense of entitlement that so many folks seem to have, assuming that they have some kind of right to have this set. Can anyone tell me one reasonable matter why this awesome set shall not be sold for the public?! I'll play devil's advocate. 2 possible answers. 1) Contractual. The design of this set may be contractually limited based on an agreement with VESTAS. If VESTAS wants the set to be "special" then they may not want every tom, dick and harry to have a copy of this set that they went to the trouble of arranging especially for thier employees. Yes, brand awarness is a reason for VESTAS to relent, but even though they use LEGO in their displays, I don't think that toy stores are where most energy companies are looking to do their advertising. 2) Market questions. LEGO may have determined that this is not a set that will sell well on the wider market, and has decided not to do so. Not that TLG knows everything, but they do have professionals that work on this kind of thing, and alot of experience to guide their ideas of what will and won't sell. For example: Folks are up in arms about Castle Advent Calendar not being sold in the states, but the number of advent calendars that were on sale at US LEGO stores after Christmas last year clearly indicates that advent calendars don't sell as well as we think they should.
