Amedeo Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 (edited) Inspired on 6254 and 6258 Lego set... On a pair of atolls there is a semi-buried treasure, marked by two palm trees crossing each other to form an "x". While newborn turtles conquer the sea for the first time and a hungry shark ambushes a small dolphin following its mother, two female buccaneers celebrate the discovery of the chest with bad rum. Others had reached there in the past, but luck had abandoned them leaving them shipwrecked on those remote islets, and discord had taken over. Now, the only survivor has nothing left to defend his treasure but an empty bottle... Edited July 19, 2023 by Amedeo Quote
MyFirstMOC-Hun Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 Honestly I don't want to be the one who's tying the knot, but how is it now? One is a gwp set, but I don't see any modifications on it from the picture. But even if there is it is minimal. I think it would be fair if you didn't put a gwp in, but figured out something new on your own. Obviously this shouldn't be a problem as you did the other parts, but this gwp is very not ok in my opinion. Quote
zinnn Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 Beautiful! Love the island with the buried treasure, but I sort of wish you reworked the 40566 set a bit more, to make it look a bit less “modern” and give it a rougher makeover. Also, while 40566 does remind me of 6258, the 6254’s cave is missing from here, I wish you’d expand it slightly to give a nod to that set? Then again, it’s a fantastic display build. Sadly, I doubt Lego would ever release it, the water alone is so detailed! Quote

Thank you for your feedback. Coming to the point, in the gwp I modified the whole base to make it similar to the other island of the MOC; I modified also part of the vegetation and part of the "furniture". However, I understand your point of view very well, and it is certainly acceptable. In fact the MOC is made up of two 32x48 modules side by side, if the administrators were to judge it "not eligible for the contest", I think I will be able to republish it with only the left module (which would be the old 6254, revised). I hope I explained myself decently, and thanks again for your comment. However, it is always stimulating to confront each other. Quote
iragm Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 This is a lovely diorama. The water detail is amazing and the shark and dolphins really bring the scene to life. I am not sure it fits the contest particularly well; it does not feel like an official set, but rather a MOC (and a very nice one!) So many great details -- the fighting crabs, the turtle eggs, the buried treasure. A few things do not make sense to me: palm trees would be blown by the wind, and all bend the same way (I get that X marks the spot, but it's hard for me to suspend disbelief...). The toucan is flying but his wings are not open. The planks floating in the water would drift away without something holding them in place. But again, the use of color, positioning of elements, and storytelling with bricks here is second to none! Even if this doesn't really fit the contest, it's incredible work and a joy to look at. Yes, you 're right with the palms blend (but the "x" form is necessary to the storytelling) and the planks (I wouldn't "over brick" that part). The roucan Is not Flying... simply I haven't got thet bar in green/brown, and I used a trans light one (I had to use that kind of bar to compensate the blend...). Thanks for your feedback! Quote
Rogue Redcoat Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 After reading some other comments that I do agree with, here's what I would do to get rid of the whole water display underneath :( and like a Lego set with some light blue water under it like in Pirates of Barracuda Bay, other than this the set looks pretty good with all the small details like the turtles and the shark. Anyway, Happy building :) Quote
Marooned Marin Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 Beautiful as ever @Amedeo and lovely storytelling. Well done on this lavish update/merge of old and modern 8 hours ago, Amedeo said: if the administrators were to judge it "not eligible for the contest" 1. Design a new Classic-Style set Imagine you're a designer working for the LEGO Group and you've been tasked with designing a brand new classic-style LEGO Pirate set. The emphasis is building a creation that could pass as an official LEGO set. The design could be pure classic 1989-1997 style or modern like Barracuda Bay. But remember! Official LEGO sets have a more limited part count than MOCs and the onus is to convince everyone your creation is an official set. 2. Remake an existing Classic set Which classic LEGO Pirate set should the LEGO Group remake next? You show them how it's done! The creation can be any existing LEGO Pirate set except for 6276 Eldorado Fortress and the 6285/10040 Black Seas Barracuda because they've been remade (but feel free to appeal that in this topic The builder contest does have TWO categories, and while it's true TLG would never release a set with overly detailed water made out of tiles, this could fit into the second category, a Remake of an existing Classic set where piece-count is only a guideline for builders not to go extremely overboard. I estimate that this is under 3000k pieces. Adding Ray the Castaway into the whole thing is a bold move, but it's nice and refreshing to see boldness from designers when they push the boundaries of creativity. As Del Boy would said it, "He who dares wins!" Quote
Horation Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 It's a really. really good MOC, I don't even feel like writing a full review because of how little there is that I can actually critique. I will say that the water is just too much, In my book there's an easy fix : remove that water and plop the bases on some light blue water like in official sets and there you go. I must also recommend using fewer circular shapes for the sand (light tan plates), it looks really artificial, other than that, good job! Quote
NOD Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 A very nicely built diorama with 2 small islands. I really like the way the island is built. The storyline of the minifigures looks funny. I especially like the color of the water. But blue and white bricks should be replaced with clear ones. This looks better and more beautiful. Quote
Mazin Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 WOW! That's SOME update! :) I realy envy You, even without those waves all that water and color differences within it required so much work and planning, and the waves, and those dolphins, having an idea to have them jump is crazy, and making the shark turn while doing his jump is just insane! My compliments on achieving that look. And then there those crossed palm trees and turtles hatching from the egg, and a wooden walkway and a skeleton. Trully, all of it is so charming. Your characters, the second island, that toucan sitting on the top of a tree and even those red elements on that boat! Simple detail of weird color choosing, but how it stands out! Brilliant. But, it's brilliant as diorama :) If it was a set to play with and to be sold it would surely require some changes. I may think about them if only i will pick up my jaw from the floor and manage to put it in place ;) But honestly, i'd say all it would require to make it more sellable would be a different simpler baseplate, for both islands and maybe for that wooden pathway between them ( unless those boards would just float there and would stay in place somehow ) plus some of the animals would have to be ditched too, few turtles and dolphins i guess. Everything else could stay just how it is. Maybe someone could argue that pirates could use more weapons, but witch so much possibilities within this set, why do we even need to think about providing arms? ;) Then again, screw the cost! ;) It's so lovely i'd love to keep all the animals ;) Quote

;) È così bello che mi piacerebbe tenere tutti gli animali ;) Thank you so much! I'm agree with your observation. This MOC is also made as part of a larger diorama, so the sea and the details all around are made this way according with the orhers MOC of the diorama. Thanks for your post!!! Quote
Mazin Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 Wow, i wasn't aware i could speak italian! ;) last time i've tried to learn it was like back in 1994 or 95 ;) didn't know i had it in me all this time ;) But back to the topic. About Your design. I've just realized that there's no place to stick the figiure on Your raft Maybe that's not nececary and he anyone using it can sit there or stand then without falling, and since this is a displayable thing, a diorama it probably can go around some of the Lego rules. Then again, some folks might complain about this little fact, so if You'd be lookinf for improvemenets it could use a small piece that figures could be attached too. Tho maybe i'm wrong and that flag pole is there for this same purpose, so that everyone interested in taking a ride could hold on to it? :) Quote
durazno33 Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 This is a great build! I love the story telling with the cast away guy sees the boat as the real treasure thinking he is saved and can now leave the island while the pirates are after the treasure not realizing they might be short a boat real soon. (just my imagination). The shark must be really hungry to attack dolphins. And to see the little turtles hatching and running into the ocean. As far as feedback, I don't have much in the way of criticism. I really wish you could add a soccer ball named Wilson but I don't think it would fit the theme. :) Quote
