This is an alternate model of 42157 based on the JCB 4CX Backhoe. The final model as built according to the instruction is slightly different from the one shown in photos, because there were some design changes and improvements after the photoshoot.

Even though it is modeled after a backhoe, there is no excavator arm because the original set does not have enough structural parts for that. Instead of stretching the parts to make the excavator arm at the expense of the whole model, I want to concentrate on designing a functional playable good looking premium model. The excavator arm attachment will be available as a separate module later.

Functions:

- Working steering wheel
- Rotating seat

Function%201.jpg

- 4 Wheel Drive
- Inline 4 Engine and Engine Fan
- Openable Hood
- Bucket lift
- Bucket tilt
- Bucket grab

Function%202.jpg

- 3 steering modes: Front wheel steering, 4 wheel steering, Crab steering

Function%203.jpg

- 4-in-1 bucket

Pitty that there are no few extra pneumatic chlinders or actuators to make backhoe...now you can make it in yellow when liebberr will be available to you

Seriously you made great alternative. Impressive that you managed to add 3 steering modes

Looks good, but how is the bucket tilt working? Is it manual, relying on friction pins?

It tilts manually and relies on friction pins as well as frictions of 2 more 8 z gears. The gears are not in the photo because I added them after the photoshoot.

In the inventory I see only two rams were used

I plan to save the remaining three cylinders for the excavator arm.

Great idea for the friction-held front loader!

What I really like is the design for the bucket with the small and very small panel :-)

Yeah this one caused me a lot of headache because I want a proper bucket with no gaps but there arent many pieces in the set that can cover the irregular shape on the side.

Now you are tempting me to make one (4CX) with Unimog tires...it would need 4 receivers and...I don't want to say how many motors...

These are all the play functions that can be done with a 4-in-1 bucket.

The back section of the bucket has teeth to increase friction in grappling jobs, as well as a smooth inclining surface for dozing jobs. The bucket in my model has those too, just like the real thing.
