Zarkan Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Aw, Vakama looked awesome there... at least he didn't just copy a movie picture like Leigh did. >_> Sayger remains my second favorite Bionicle artist, almost up there with good ol' D'Anda. This one looks rather good too, though!-Ikk Are you serious? His mask looked like a flat cardboard cutout, his staff was nothing more than a few red scribbles, and he just looked plain rushed. Just like basically everything else about his 2007 comic. Seriously, I loved some of what he did in 2006, but by 2007 he was just getting lazy. I prefer the art style from 2008 way over his style.
Wrinkledlion X Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Interesting style. I like what I see so far, but I'll reserve judgment until we see some his backgrounds... Also, I actually really liked Sayger's Vakama. I thought that in that particular case the abstractness was pretty cool.
ShaddowCroc Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I don't care what you people think, but Sayger is my favorite BIONICLE artist. I thought that his dark, twisted style was amazing. (This new guy seems cool, too. But I liked Leigh the best as a person.)
The Alchemyst Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I don't care what you people think, but Sayger is my favorite BIONICLE artist.I thought that his dark, twisted style was amazing. (This new guy seems cool, too. But I liked Leigh the best as a person.) His style was definitely something, and it fit the dark looming 06-07 story very well. I don't hate him at all, adding a little flair is always nice. Pop Mhan's work looks almost like Leigh's overall style-wise to me. Only a few drawn details like masks and stuff look different. [-The Alchemyst-]
Tyranide Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 New round of choosing the best artist? Frag, just let Gallagher draw characters, and Sauger - backgrounds. THAT will be win. I'd liked to see comics by Ashley Wood or Dwayne Turner. THEY have the dark style. Not some Sayger guy. But they don't work for DC, of course.)) Sayger drew close-up of Vakama very well. But I was seeing his legs from the next picture in nightmares. No one can walk with THESE legs!
Bundalings Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 yay Now this actually makes sense. ~Bunda
Zarathos Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 hehe.. tiny brain. I like this a lot though. More proportionally accurate than the one in the Polish guide at least. -Z
Brickthing Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 (edited) Mata Nui Picture THANKYOU! Please post that at BZP so they can understand! I've been trying to explain that exactly, only some of them never get it! The only potential problem is that Karda nui needs to be dome shaped. ;) Edited November 26, 2008 by 3D Brickthing
ShaddowCroc Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Aww. I was hoping to be able to make fun of an island as being Mata Nui's crotch. But the drawing itself does look fairly proportionate. I just think the guide might've gotten rid of his abdominal area, if he had nothing in it.

I just think the guide might've gotten rid of his abdominal area, if he had nothing in it. I think that we can all agree that it's a good thing that there aren't any islands in the hip area. Seeing as Metru Nui is the brain and Karda Nui is the heart, I think LEGO specifically tried to avoid labelling another island/place as we know what. ;)

Tyranide Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Now the flowers will grow. Just couldn't resist, as usual.

Oh, you mean THAT Vakama. I agree - the closeup was excellent. It's the horribly skewered Vakama shot after the closeup that looks so horible, IMO.

Ikki o' Moopyville Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Vakama looks like something out of a tribal petroglyph in that picture. His mask is a little messed up, but aside from that, I love it. -Ikk

Brickthing Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I think the purpose of Vakama looking like that is so that kids don't want to buy him. They had to show him for storyline reasons, but they had to take precautions that a 4 year retired set wouldn't look cooler than the ones the comic was supposed to be promoting. (Then again, they had just killed Matoro, so they weren't doing to good at that time...)
Bundalings Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 What are you talking about? That looks awesome. ~Bunda
Bundalings Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Hey, Bunda, could you not DL from BS01? Oh, okay. Didn't know that was a problem. *changes* ~Bunda
iLego94 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 (edited) I'm with you Jinzo. This was the end of the comic IMO WIN: SUCK: Vakama looks out of place in the picture. Anyways, I will always say that Sayger was sloppy and inconsistent in his artwork. That is to say that he was good, he just slacked in some areas. BTW Rahkshi are after the Toa :( ~iLego94 Edited November 27, 2008 by iLego94
