MNOLG can't be denied. Never. Ever.

It sucks. I was cleaning out my computer and accidentally deleted my MNOG game. I s'pose I can find it again on BZP, but it still sucks. I preferred the first one to the second even if it was a little short. The second was just too much about the widgets.

MNOLG is the first one.

It's just so good, and free! I've payed for worse things. I don't know if there any flaws except for a few glitchs.

One of the countless things I've enjoyed about the MNOG is the vast collection of future story hints placed in the game -- it gives clues to Metru Nui, Mata Nui's death, Mata Nui being the universe, the domes, Takanuva, the Red Star, and probably more! Along with the Amaja Legend, it is to date the single most encompassing source of hints to the mysteries of Bionicle!

MNOLG was great because it was the only game to really, REALLY give you a sense of the Bionicle world. You got a sense of the culture, the personalities of the different tribes, the problems the Tohunga faced, and I don't think the Toa have ever been cooler than when in MNOLG- they were basically legends that you were never worthy to witness unless they showed up once in a great while to kick butt, disappearing a few moments later. The story was somewhat interesting and the gameplay was actually pretty good. I also liked the music.

Also, this is back when Bionicle actually had some sense of mystery surrounding it, which helped MNOLG a lot. You really felt like a villager.

I remember when I was a kid, and you are never really told you are actually Takua til the very end. (I didn't even guess, even though I had the previous game)

MNOG was the tool Bionicle used to hook me. I dno't think I would ave been nearly as interested in the storyline (and therefore the sets) if it weren't for MNOG.

I think the primary reason that it beats the other years is because of the primary focus was on the Matoran, not the Toa. 2007 sucked because, there were basically no Matoran. Same w/ 2008 (although I liked 2008 better).

If the Glatorian played the same roles as the Toa, I would mind the amount of focus they were getting. But since they are barely above the Agori, and the story shares the focus quite a bit, I like 2009. So yeah. We need more Agori stories. And Matoran stories I guess. :D

Agreed. But MNOLG2 sucked . It was far too buggy.

The Original version hardly had any bugs, the new version I don't think is possible. Try and find the Original version. That will change your mind.

It wasn't just the bugs that made MNOLG2 suck. The gameplay was boring as hell. You did boring things to collect widgets, and you leveled up your character to play kholli. Wow. Exciting.

I have to say MNOLG2 was one of the biggest disappointments in Bionicle history.

I genuinely missed the Matoran's point of view in 2008... stories about superheroes and supervillains quickly get tiresome and repetitive. However, with the exception of the early years, 2007 by far the year with the most focus on the Matoran. It had an entire book where they alone were the central characters, they had nontraditional and developed personalities, and they even got a serial where they served important purposes. Outside of the Mata Nuians the Mahri Nui Matoran are my favorite Bionicle characters.

@Pencoin: MNOLG2 was a cool game, if you didn't need to spend 20 minutes grabbing cowrie shells. Seriously. I nearly got carpal tunnel from that game. Ugh.

Although I don't know why you would prefer 2 matoran over 6. I loved the set design of them, so I would have loved as many as possible.

@Ikki: I missed out on a bunch of 2007 storyline, so I guess I missed that. But it sounds great, so I would probably agree. Reading the summary on BS01 right now. :)

You mustn't let yourself miss out on the many wonders of the 2007 story. :classic: City of the Lost especially revived much of the classic greatness of Bionicle, and it bettered the many letdown aspects of 2006. There was a city of Matoran struggling to survive in a hostile location... the threat of Rahi all around... mysterious enemies who actually ruled nature... and the exploration of a tiny group of ressourceful villagers per decree of their village council. =D It was good times.

BTW, despite the less-than-bare glimpses we've gotten of him, Gar remains my favorite post-Metru Nui character.

MNOLG was amazing back in it's day. Hell, it's still awesome. My only regret is not playing it enough in '01 (My internet sucked, so each loading screen took hours.), and having to get hooked on it sometime in '04-'05. And I thought that aside from the thousands of glitches, MNOLG2 was a nice game. It reminded me of old-style point-and-click 'em-ups. (Sierra ones, because they broke easier, and weren't as good quality as Lucasarts ones.) And it offered an RPG aspect, too. Except then it stopped working for me.

Still, nothing beats MNOLG, or the Bohrok/Kal animations. Those things were amazing.

(And yeah, City Of The Lost was really cool. Island of Doom was cool, too. I think that '06 and '07 got ruined as soon as the Mahri/Inika showed up.)

The Piraka characters still annoy me, but 2006 was really a love-hate year for me. On one side, we had fantastic tropes such as the treasure hunt for life, the desolate and somewhat spooky island, and the Matoran resistance. On the other hand, the characters were just trying too hard to break the mold in many places -- the Piraka were basically nothing but snide remarks, Dalu was a pain, and Velika's cool riddles were totally ruined by Garan. Still, folks such as Piruk and Balta as well as the interaction of Axonn and Brutaka provided both new and deep personality types.

As far as sets go, the canister ones mostly sucked, with the exception of transparency and Piraka colors. The villagers and A & B were terrific, though. 2006 remains very hard to decide on.

I agree it's 50% both ways. One thing that annoys me though is alot of the pointless sets. 3 of them only appear for a few mins. So annoying! It was also the last combiners. Got to give it that.

Matoran POV is needed, the Toa POV is just a bland story of Good vs evil. The Matoran make it work, and they made MNOLG work also. The Toa Mata looked so amazing because we were looking up at them from the eyes of a Matoran.

I can imagine how 2006 or 2007 would be if it was just from the point of view of one of the Matoran. Now I'm wishing that's how it was like.
