Clonie Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 2001 Matoran are the epitome of 7-piece sets, and always will be. I don't think the amount of parts matters as such. The actual quality matters more. I mean take the 2001 Matoran. No build to speak of, but completely win. 2006 Matoran had a good amount of parts, but they kiiiiind of sucked. It's like it says in the Inika commercial -- it's not what you've got, it's what you do with it. :P IMO: McToran > Turaga > Va > MahriToran > Hydruka > KoliToran > Rahaga > MetruToran > VoyaToran > Av-Matoran 2003 Matoran would have been better if they made the other two teams, and if they had koli balls instead of those disks, and if their sticks looked better. And if they didn't ruin Kopeke. >=( MNOG II

Skulduggery Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 (edited) AS YA WISH: WOW that is amazing your art is awsome. Would you be able to draw Kiina or Ackar next please? Does anyone know how long it takes for something to get from America to NZ through LEGO shop at home? Edited May 10, 2009 by Skulduggery
Bundalings Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 McToran > Av-Matoran > MahriToran > VoyaToran > Va > Rahaga > Hydruka > Turaga > KoliToran > MetruToran That's what I think. The Av Matoran may have a terrible price per part ratio, but they're fun little sets. Especially when they're colorful, like the Agori. I never got any Hydruka so dunno about them. ~Bunda
Brickthing Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 That's what I think. The Av Matoran may have a terrible price per part ratio, but they're fun little sets. Especially when they're colorful, like the Agori.I never got any Hydruka so dunno about them. ~Bunda The Hydruka are an awesome complement to the Mahritoran, I just can't believe that they didn't get any storyline coverage, especially considering the amount Dekar got. IMO: MahriToran > McToran > Hydruka > Av-Matoran > Va > Turaga > KoliToran > VoyaToran > Rahaga > MetruToran The four Mahritoran looked great, had cool colours, had awesome recoloured masks, great weapons and non-essential but still good launchers. Mctoran were awesome, came in colours like Purple, Yellow and Teal, quite poseable, and they justified going to Mcdonalds. Hydruka were awesome mini-visorak-rahkshi-rahi things. Av-Matoran fail at piece-counts and build-ability, but they are posable, look-good and come with cool masks (and weapons this year). And as Bunda said, the Agori colours make them even better. The sad thing about them is that they seem to be an excuse in larger sets to lower the costs whilst still having a biped character, as exhibited in Vultraz and Fero & Skirmix. The Va were an awesome combination between Turaga and Bohrok, with recoloured Mctoran feet to top it off. The Turaga are awesome as well, because they all had their own masks and weapons, as well as a neat action feature. And then there is also the nostalgia of them. The Kolitoran I didn't like so much, because they were mostly re-hashes of Mctoran in bigger awkward looking forms that seemed like a weird mix between Rahkshi and the SPORTS hockey players. The piece colours were good though, especially compared to the rest of 2003. Voyatoran were kinda neat, but their main value was for the abundant supply of Hordika heads. The Rahaga were like mini-Rahkshi, even down to the same weapon. The Metrutoran looked good from the front, but their posability, back and oversized launchers were annoying.
Clonie Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 The 2003 Matoran don't look too bad, but I think they're unnecessary. Story-wise they're weird, rebuilding themselves? That's just disturbing. The only thing that's the same is their heads and feet, so they basically detached their heads and put them on a different body. They should have released new Matoran in the old forms, i.e. Takua, Hahli, Kopeke. Plus I hate the koli sticks being silver, and them having disks instead of koli balls. The sticks should have been like they are in the movie, as the koli sticks are the only things that look better in the movie. Or just not have koli sticks and play the game properly.
Wrinkledlion X Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 For me, McToran were the best for nostalgia, compactness, and a simple but attractive design. After that are probably the Voyatoran for their size and variety- though they had no new weapons or colors, and some had mildly awkward designs, I really enjoyed them. They matched my 2001-inspired concept of what a Matoran is better than any others since, with their tininess and whatnot. After them is a three-way tie between Metrutoran, for their versatility, Mahritoran, for their complex build, and Av-Matoran, for their (mostly) bright colors and new masks. They all have points knocked off their enormous size. I think that the Av-Matoran could be favorites of mine if they weren't super-expensive and as tall as the Toa Mata. In last place are the 2003 Matoran. I hated those guys. They looked like weird, awkward body-builders and somehow managed to remove all the endearing qualities of the McToran. Those bizarre chests...
The Dor Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 AS YA WISH: Antroz your art is amazing. <3 I already wanted Vastus but you make him look even better. @ Matoran discussion: I don't see why no one likes the '03 Matoran. I loved those guys. They were some of my favorite Matoran, I certainly liked them better than the McToran. I guess that's just me.
Zarkan Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 (edited) 2001 Matoran are the epitome of 7-piece sets, and always will be.I don't think the amount of parts matters as such. And if they didn't ruin Kopeke. >=( MNOG II As much as I love the Mctoran, I personally feel that you can't really compare them with any of the kits you mentioned. The small sets have varried so much over the years, and IMO comparing McToran with the Mahritoran and Metruan is somewhat like comparing the Toa Mahri to the freebie Mahri figures you could get at Mcdonalds. Now, I know it's a bit of a stretch, seeing as the Mctoran rocked and the Mahri promotionals stunk, but the point is that they both have one thing in common - they were free with a happy meal and not widely circulated sets. That means that you were basically getting them for free. On the other hand, all the other sets you mentioned were store bought products, and they all coster 4-6 dollars. Cool as the Mctoran were, if they were sold only in stores for 5 dollars a piece, would you buy a ton of them? I know I sure wouldn't, especially if I knew that they would eventually be making 5 dollar bionicle sets that had far more value for the buck (aka: the Mahritoran). On another note, I really don't have much love for the Av-Toran, seeing as their limb parts are so prone to breaking. Worse, unlike Hahli Mahri and Lessovikk, it's impossible to even get replacements for some of the parts from earlier or later years. My Hahli Mahri is still standing well today because I had some lime limb joints leftover from a scrapped Visorak Keelerak. As for my Tanma, well... let's just say that not even getting free replacement parts from TLC has stopped him from becoming a fragile, half broken skeleton. Edited May 10, 2009 by Grevious
---Vertea--- Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 On another not-What do you guys think of asking for another tub-o-parts? I was thinking it'd be cool to have a Bara Magna expansion kit with masks and parts from this year in all sorts of colors, as well as some exclusives and suck. It would also likely include enough parts to make a full set like the rahkshii tubs.
Icesaber Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Bionicle finally has a Short Round! Hey! you Call him Toa Mata Nui! lol! I was kinda happy to see a Brickmaster exclusive that was more than like eight pieces(not including pins and axles). The Scarabax is an unusually big catch for Brickmaster...Even if it IS devoid of any new pieces and only one type of recolour... What's the recolor? So I just built my own little scarabax who is green and silver... and he's actually pretty neat. At least as good as the Klakk IMO. That's not saying much. Don't like Click. The last two Mahritorans had big feet. Kiina looks okay, I like the weapon and the tri-point armor thing. Her mask is ugly, her limbs could use some adjusting, and the body doesn't look bad (apart from color mess) Gelu's helm's cheeks stick out now and it makes him look not as cool. The blade's sweet though. I'm going to assume that Stronius is from a bad angle. The others I'm not having a change of opinion on.
---Vertea--- Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Where's your GELU???? Hey-I can't make a masterpiece in two seconds like antrozek! XD
Clone OPatra Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I have never posted before in the Bionicle forum, and therefore I know little about what has gone on before. I just thought everyone might like to know about the "Bionicle Digital Camera." http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?p...&cp=2274247 I don't know if anyone has heard of this before (I heard of the upcoming system-ish LEGO digital camera), and I hope this is new news. It's a shame TRU does not have a picture of it, but they have a page both for one in yellow (the link above) and for one in red. If it isn't news, well, sorry.

It may or may not be new to us, I'm not sure. Thanks for posting it though! Kanohi Journal has a website? They want us to draw Surel? Why can't they have a contest for a useful character, like Lariska or a non-Karda Nui Makuta? Is Greg allowing anyone who asks to make a canon character contest? Where's the EB BIONICLE Contest? What character would be best for the EB BIONICLE Contest?

Toa of Whimsy Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 (edited) On the subject of Matoran... The only Matoran I own are Nuparu from the Boxor Set, Sarda and Idris from the Karzahni Set, and five of the Av-Matoran (all of them minus Tanma). Nuparu is cute, Sarda and Idris are alright with me, and amongst the Av-matoran I like Kirop and Solek (Kirop because he's cool and batty like and Solek because he's a spaceshuttle). The ONLY Matoran that really irritate me are Radiak and Gavla- their packaging has you expecting Mata Red and Blue, but instead you get the dark Metru colors, but that's where I stop hating Radiak because Radiak's bad points stop there (for the most part). As for Gavla... where do I start? I mean, that's supposed to be a female character, LEGO? That ugly monstrosity? You could at least have not put a hole in the front of her mask piece that would make her upper fangs look like a moustache... but NO, you had to do that, especially after you gave Hahli Inika a snorkelstache and Jay Leno-style chin. Maybe I'm being silly applying human standards of a feminine body to Matoran, and maybe BIONICLE IS targeted towards the likes of Little Jimmy and his treehouse LEGO club (No Girls Allowed!), and maybe her role in the story is as a little servant to an evil Makuta jerk, but Little Jimmy can go to Swirlies-and-Wedgies hell, and little minions to evil guys are supposed to be cute (it's kinda a rule), and there is only so far my imagination can go with fictional species... Gavla is a real inexcusably nasty piece of UGLY, with her small arms and legs and ridiculously exaggerated musclature (You could at least have given her Solek arms and legs). The only things stopping me from throwing the set right out the window is that her mask and those blade things are cool (just not with her), she it would be just fine if LEGO had not tried to pass her off as the obligatory single female character set, and because I got her and the rest of the Av-Matoran as a birthday gift. I think we need some Sandwich Chef here: Edited May 11, 2009 by Toa of Whimsy
Clonie Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Cool as the Mctoran were, if they were sold only in stores for 5 dollars a piece, would you buy a ton of them? Yes. =D Price isn't a huge factor for me when judging sets. Unless it's way overpriced. But that doesn't happen.
