Very GOOD idea mr. Lion King. I think we should all buy some space sets. You have to see those LIVE. After that, 2-3 sets you are much more vice.

(believe me please, this LEGO subtheme is something very uncommon and many of us will be very disappointed in future - because we HAD the change buy these sets and in FUTURE they are 5-10 times more expensive. ALL of those sets.)

Just picked up the mining mech, my god it's such a nice little set. The robot is one of the worse-er ones we get from this sub theme but I like it regardless. The mech itself is brilliant, love its design. Hammer doesnt work as well as intended but looks awesome, and I love printed space tiles. The minifig is absolutely excellent, and the reason im going to get another pretty soon. Love the armour and I hope it will be recoloured, same with the helmet. I would die for a black or red version of it. Speaking of which, I'll post some pics in a bit of my own red spaceman using the prints from the set. We REALLY needed this. I dont know why a red set of figures were omitted. The printing and colours line up. At least the prints aren't colour locked and can be modified with parts. Another big thing for me is this wave is really missing a medium size structure build, maybe a small outpost made up of 2 modules and a small rover, something in the £45/$50 range. The jump from £25/$35 to £60/$85 is ridiculous, and I really wish we had a miid range set to go with this wave.

Someone here might've already noticed it, but when browsing the new City sets I noticed that the new police buggy polybag has a wanted poster that not only doesn't match any of the others, but features a number from a potentially unrevealed set (60416). Possibly either something that got cancelled or is due to be revealed/released later?

Good catch, the old guy does show up in the prison but not in a regular set, and the 60416 is indeed skipped inbetween 2 police sets (chase and hideout)

If it's not a cancelled set, my guess would be that it's the Advent Calendar, but the placement inbetween 2 police sets would be unusual for that still.

An exclusive print like that in a polybag, pointing to a set number different from it is a bit strange indeed, but weird things with City polybags have happened before, in 2022 30587: Police Robot Unit never released.

There are other gaps in the City range for this year :

  • 60407-60409 (3 numbers)
  • 60416 (wanted poster in Polybag)
  • 60420-60427 (8 numbers)
  • 60435-60437 (3 numbers)

I hope some of those are civilian sets, which I really love the civilian sets. I also hope one is a post office. I've been screaming for one of those for City since they discontinued 7731 after 2010.

Yeah I do hope more of the sets with 8x8 and 8x16 modules, so far sets like the Fire Station or Prison Island took another approach, but I hope there will be some more structures that are compatible with Downtown/Appartment building and such.

So far no new sets this year have either of those 2-plate high road plates, studded and non studded variants.

They are still in production for 2023 sets, and the road plates expansion set is still sold as well, so I think LEGO just wants to sell current product first before overflooding the market. (the Family House did retire rather quick only 6 months after release however).

The 2023 module sets are at quite high price points too (but imo still nicer compared to 2020 Main Square or 2021 Shopping Street for buildings, as a large chunk of those sets went into vehicles, making the buildings secondary and lacking).

YES!!!!! I have the downtown and ice cream shop sets and imo, those are literally the greatest City sets I have acquired since the grocery store! Almost the entire set is building with a bike or scooter here and there. I plan to get the apartment soon too. I actually like the 2023 town sets. However, if they make a post office set, they will HAVE to include a mail van. I hope for those modules too.

Yeah, I think road plates with buildings is being phased out. Now they're just selling buildable road plates like they did with the old road baseplates: separate from the buildings.

Still have yet to get the family house. Hopefully not all are sold out at stores yet. If so, I'll just order one online. I need a few of those for my town.

Now the 2023 town sets for summer are high priced, but it's worth it. Like downtown, it's rightfully $200. Have you seen how big that set is? I actually have it in my room and it's taller than my computer monitor. It acts as a shopping mall in my town. The only reason I got main square and shoping street was for the buildings. The other features, except the limo from 60271, I use as spare pieces.

I agree with you 100%.

CITY/Subthemes

Since 2005- there has been these... which are quite interesting.

- Arctic 10, 8

- Deep Sea Explorers 6, 5

- Exploration 5

So those 3 are now combined to Exploration. (TOTAL 34 sets).

- Jungle 10

- Volcano Explorers 8

- Wildlife Rescue 5

These should be also Exploration if you ask me. (TOTAL 23 sets). AND this year if rumours are true there will be even more Jungle sets.

- Space 5, 5, 4, 8

- Mars Exploration 9

So, Space is popular... and my guess is that in future we will get a OWN Space theme OR then more and more SPACE related sets in so many different themes. (TOTAL 31 sets). There might be some mistakes. But that is my statistics and analyse.

Not my observation but I think it's interesting how the top down view of the interstellar spacecraft design matches the classic space logo all along.

Classic space logo originally is probably based on the 1976 space shuttle reveal , and 1977 free flight (Enterprise) , as it wasn't until 1981 until an actual launch via rockets (Columbia) (which are also the names of the first 2 NX-Class  Warp 5+ human spaceships in the Star Trek universe)

I still gotta build them but recently for fun put the red slope roof from 2017 31069: Modular Family Villa on the Police academy, as both are 8x16, and designed with being modular to begin with.

I mean, 40305: LEGO Brand Retail Store wasn't themed, but still sold directly by LEGO and is also still compatible with those 3-in-1 Creator and now City, as it has the same 8x16 size removeable roof/floors, so nice to integrate with Downtown/Appartments etc.

40305-1.jpg?201806020247

I started collecting City type of stuff around that time so those Creator 2017/2018 "modular" (not to be confused with the 32x32) sets were some of my first buildings, altho they are annoying to move as they are only connected with a few studs for the floors/window/grass sections.

Well, I am 100 % sure... we are getting OWN space theme. Space is coming back AND 1 of the reasons is that LOGO.

CITY/Space sets (2022) ... that was a turning point. CITY/Space (2024) is revolutionary! That LOGO means a FACTION. Not new but indeed [THE 1st ONE]. This is the way how TLG "brings space back". Actually Space never ended. Different kind of space sets have been there since the beginning.

...

I think 2024 LEGO tests us. How we think about "these sci-fi sets". REMEMBER 1 thing... USA has UFO's ... so when I say sci-fi actually - it is this present day. In LEGO CITY/Space there are these "sci-fi elements" BUT actually UFO's have always been here on Earth, at least thousands of years. So... this Space subtheme is very realistic and fits to CITY/Space... BUT the problem is that [SPACE] as a theme / subtheme is HUGE!!! So Space will never be just a subtheme. Space is MAIN THEME.

like: Castle, Pirates and City. ... That LOGO is the future. That LOGO is a faction, 1st one... that group is the future! 2024 will change everything.

Finally got my hands on the rover and another mech, god damn the rover is beautiful. Better in real life. Love the suspension and the look of it. Gotta mod it a bit to better fit what I want from a Rover but I would not mind at all to get 2 of these and have them in a convoy. The mine mech is also an awesome set. Looks great with 2 hammer hands and the other with 2 claw hands and I get another mining suit.

I did notice when building that the rover actually has a second feature. Everyone was so confused with the seating arrangement and why there’s the minifig leg slots. They’re not for minifigs. They’re for mini dolls! It’s probably the first real friends/city compatible build and that is absolutely awesome. (I know Lego movie 2 had sweet mayhem but that’s it’s own universe thing)

City and Friends have been connected for a while with references with Trains and Airplanes going between LEGO City Central / International and Heartlake City, but yeah, when I saw the review of the Rover, I immediately thought minidoll leg slot as well.

40518: High-Speed Train isn't minifig scale, but got a prominent sticker saying LCC-HLC (LEGO City Central - Heartlake City), so it goes even beyond just City and Friends for being mentioned.

City and Friends did have ocean explorer/rescue themes , and both had a skiing themed set for 2023, and now some space overlap, I think there will be more subthemes going at the same time from now on, but this rover having leg slots it's the first direct mention of figure compatibility.

This is actually what convinced me to buy this set! I really like it, shame I don’t have the friends mars base or space academy to have some minidoll astronauts. The set gets the lemerbrix seal of approval!

I really don’t care about mini dolls myself but I’m glad that dimensions are merged as Friends and City citizens meet up. I’m glad that the minfigure-oriented rover set has some seating  for minidolls. This allows both groups work together.

I'm curious as to what 60416 would have/will be.

It likely either matches or falls between 60415 (£18) and 60417 (£25) in terms of pricing.

I assume it'll contain the older crook in more casual clothing, as the others all pop up in a set in such. Most of them appear in the same set number as the poster, bar 60419 containing the flat haired crook from 60417. So to see the polybag poster I'm this set again would make sense.

My prediction;

£18. 200 parts. A rehash of 60137 (Tow Truck Trouble) with a Tow Truck breaking apart an ATM or towing a stolen item. A new colour of Police Motorcycle to better match the new colour scheme or maybe a new mold similar to the Harley-Davidson FLHP.

Grey haired crook in blue overalls with prison fatigues underneath. Maybe the flat-top haired crook in a jumpsuit, with a female motorcycle cop. (COuld be a new outfit, or maybe the new black vest print. Printed tile from the polybag.

60439 Space Science Laboratory / $34.99 / June 2024

More space!!! @danth
I hope that the science lab can attach to the main ground base.

That’s what I suspected. I thought it was kinda odd that Lego decided to release Space sets in winter instead of spreading sets throughout 2024. I’m glad to see a few more Space sets!
