LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 25. Rumors and discussion

Been thinking about the Detective Noir minifig... there was the Mime, then the 'horror' boy and girl. The latter two are more of perhaps horror figures (reference to Addams family?). Basically, there is no black-and-white Lego set that this Detective will be quite useful. Perhaps they should have just released a colored one, or at least have the option of a yellow head. Just my opinion.

So the list looks like:

1. Noir Detective with Red Herring and Magnifying Glass 

2. Champion Gamer Girl with headphones, keyboard, computer mouse, and trophy 

3. Basil the Bat Lord with new Helmet and Axe, Shield and Cape

4. Paralympic Gold Medalist with double prosthetic legs, gold medal and first place plinth 

5. Medieval Goatherd with White Goat, walking stick, rucksack, and goat cheese tile(?)

6. Mushroom Costume Girl with new hat, white skirt, and blue, green, and black butterfly 

7. Female Weightlifter with water bottle and dumbbell 

8. Triceratops Costume Guy

9. Harpy 

10. Train Costume Boy (not sure what’s going on with the right eye of his glasses)

11. Barbarian Warrior with an new sword (I think it might be Celtic, but that portion on the page has a lot of glare in the picture) 

12. Dog Groomer with scissors and new Afghan Hound

After a long and stressful day, i saw this list and the offical reveal of Natural History Museum - they made my night! 

I’m so happy with this Series 25 - I don’t need to listen to negative opinions about this one.

You know you can swap your own yellow head onto it. It's LEGO after all..

The film noir detective may not have a use in a set, but honestly, I really like it. Especially with the red herring. Such a good pun. I just feel a bit sad that they didn't update the fish mould to a more modern style. I really dislike that fish and this would have been a great opportunity to do something with it. Oh well.

I think the train costume’s eye was injured just like Ben Stiller’s eye had been hit by a running mini train in Night a the Museum movie.

Upon first impression the shepherd is honestly kind of boring without his goat. I would only buy some of these figures if I had the chance, as I am not enamored with the entire series. I do enjoy some more than others so here goes;

• Detective Noire - Love the color scheme and addition of red herring. 
• Gamer girl - Adore the mouse and keyboard accessories but honestly could care less for the figure itself. Total skip if the accessories are available on PAB.
• Basil the Batlord (?) - Seems like it is a reference to classic Lego. Even if it is not, my first impression was "looks like a Bionicle character". Definitely my favorite of the bunch.
• Double amputee racer - I love the representation but not too exciting really
• Shephard - I feel he works in both classic and modern settings. Somewhat timeless. Growing on me, love his face.
• Mushroom child - Very ini line with the Elf of recent Series 24. A forest spirit that feels joyful, youthful and in tune with nature. Very unique
• Muscle woman - I go back and forth on her. On the one hand I love the weight, but that will likely be available on PAB. I do love her torso print but she's kind of a snore
• Triceratops suit guy - I am tired of the suited figures but his color scheme is so standout and the mould looks lovely
• Siren (?) - I question if this is really a Siren but whatever she is she looks great! Otherworldly and mythical 
• Train suit boy - Reminds me of Thomas and Friends. Confused by his face print, total skip. Not terrible, though.
• Red headed warrior - Leaked image is far too blurry. on this one so I will reserve judgement but immediately confused by the bright red hair choice
• Dog groomer - Dog mould is excited and figure herself is about just fine

Ultimately figures 1,3,6, and. 9 are the best of the series for me. There are 7 of 12 I definitely want and of the other 5 I'd say 3 are possible depending on if I enjoy other images of them. Not the worst series ever but honestly not the best. Kind of mid.

A siren is a mermaid looking type of creature.  It looks like a harpy but I really don't like the color scheme.  Basil the batlord looks awesome.  Need more goats for my builds.  The barbarian looks interesting.  The mushroom cap on the girl could be useful for some interesting landscaping for my builds.  I think I can use the gamer girls torso for some custom Black Falcon knights.

Wonderful to get a first glimpse at the full line-up for the new series, although I'm finding the yellow background of the character sheet a bit jarring!

A couple of standout figures plus several I'm curious to learn more about. Overall, less consistent than the incredible Series 24.

Some observations:

• Noir Detective: Seems to be inspired by Sam Spade/Philip Marlowe. Is the hat mould new?  Looks smaller than past Lego fedoras. The red herring made me smile.
• Batlord: So fun to see a new interpretation of this classic Lego character. Interesting new helmet but surprisingly retro shield. Curious to see the back of the cape, as well as the print details on the torso and legs.
• Goatherd:  Wonderful to set the return of goat. Will reserve judgement on the goatherd himself, as difficult to judge the torso and leg print design. Seems to be wearing a sheepskin waistcoat, with perhaps some sort of ribbon/necktie around his neckline? And possibly some subtle arm printing? Does not appear distinctly medieval, so might work in a variety of settings? Head print looks very unique - interested to see if there is an alternate face print.
• Mushroom Fairy: Cool hat, and lovely butterfly print accessory. I wish they had done more with the rest of the character, but I understand the look they were going for.
• Harpy: Happy that they attempted this character, but would have preferred a more naturalistic interpretation. Might swap out the head if there are good alternatives.
• Train Suit: Design of costume is very 'toy-like'. Perhaps a reference to the original wooden trains Lego made in the 1940s and 50s? 
• Barbarian: Interesting, but hard to judge fairly due to poor image quality. Maybe inspired by Red Sonja. I like the idea of the moulded circlet/headband on the hair - that's pretty rare. Good use of dual-molded arms. The recoloured DreamZZZ sword works well. Eager to see the high res-images.

The other characters (E-gamer, Athlete, Crossfitter, Triceratops, Dog groomer) are less interesting to me personally, but seem well executed.

The black & white detective looks to me like a tribute to Inspector Clouseau from the pink Panther series, the hat and mackintosh look spot on!

I was thinking more alone the lines of The Maltese Falcon's Sam Spade, or any 1930's / '40s / '50s Black & White film noir detective film. The fig is in black and white after all, and Pink Panther is in color. (and it's a comedy, not film noir!)

Whether or not it was the intent, I agree it would make a fantastic Clouseau. Just need to swap out the head. Could also work as Inspector Gadget.

Wow. I'm still mad they didn't just do a final release of the third wave of vidiyo. I want those minifigs. 

Back to the new series. The Batloard is perfect. So many memories. I still have the original in perfect condition.

The Maltese Falcon and Casablanca are two of my favorite films. Having said that, I must say this as well to keep it (sort of) on topic:

I doubt that LEGO would make the Batlord female, since the character is clearly intended to be an updated Basil (they kept Johnny Thunder true to his classic appearance when remaking him as a CMF).

Ummm no thanks. I like it when the classic characers receives a modernizing treatment… I would be interested to see a Basilia the Batlady to accompany Basil the Batlord.

The detective even has Clouseau’s moustache, I think it’s a combined tribute of the comedy and classic B&W detective movies. Perhaps we should call him the Noir Panther Detective
