As a Technic fan I don't expect this to be a real Technic set, more something that would also fit into Icons. So I'm not really hyped for it.
November 22, 20231 yr There seems to be a gold colored shock absorber near the front axles at the rover. Pretty sure this was recolored for some other set which needs such color.

Some of those? 42178 Space Wheel Loader LT78 (little chance) 42180 Mars Crew Exploration Rover 42181 VTOL Heavy Cargo Spaceship LT81 (could have shocks on landing gear or on cargo compartment opening/closing system Or 42182 1970 Moon Rover

November 29, 20231 yr 42171 will be a Mercedes F1 car, 1642 pieces, $220, 01/03/2024. More of the same.

November 30, 20231 yr Author What does the Mercedes F1 car have that make it different from the McLaren one we just had last year?

If F1 cars are becoming a series maybe they will hesitate to create new tyres just for F1. So it should not be the last 1500+ pieces mid sized car this year. I guess we definetely get replacement for Ferrari 488. Edited November 30, 20231 yr by Oh_Hi_Mao

The best thing would be to actually release the 2023 model.
November 30, 20231 yr Well, great to see that TLG is trying to stick to its recent "car, car, car, car, car" strategy as much as is possible.

November 30, 20231 yr Well the Merc F1 won’t be a 2024 car or livery that much is for sure. Way too secretive. I find the CADA Merc deal more interesting as they’ve had a deal with Lego for a good number of years now with Speed Champions

November 30, 20231 yr Well let's be a bit fair to TLG. When they released the first 1:5 scale motorbike we pointed out our disappointment. But when they released the second one they appeared to listen. So maybe the same is true for the Merc? Also remember what Merc sets we've had in the past. The great unimog, the almighty Arocs, and the Zetros which is the only RC set to retain any semblance of mechanical interest and authenticity (although the Liebherr crane is also fairly authentic in its rigging). There's a chance for something good here, maybe the first F1 car with a gearbox (except for 8880 b model). F1 cars also have a 2 stage final drive with a fairly high gear ratio which, if replicated, would allow for a nice and fast spinning engine through the new low friction gearbox pieces. November 30, 20231 yr Hmm kind of underwhelming... at least a gearbox with new elements would be nice. 2 hours ago, Oh_Hi_Mao said: So it should not be the last 1500+ pieces mid sized car this year. Well, they do and they don't. So long as the deals don't cross into other's businesses, it's OK if the agreement isn't exclusive. In other words an agreement between Mercedes and Cobi along with one between Mercedes and LEGO wouldn't be problematic as Cobi and LEGO, though both "toys", are much different and don't compete against each other. On the other hand agreements with both LEGO and CADA could be an issue. While Mercedes wouldn't care, LEGO and CADA certainly should and might reject such an arrangement unless Mercedes gave exclusive rights to one model to LEGO and different one to CADA. In that case, Mercedes would have exclusive license agreements with both companies. In many respects, outside of collecting royalties, companies have little incentive to give exclusive rights, but royalties can be a big incentive to induce an exclusive contract.

In what instance does COBI not compete with LEGO? Maybe not in the Technic or military brick-world, but anything System built is a clear competition. Or haven't you seen the Concorde, Titanic, 1:12 Classic cars, etc. from the two companies? I am still very surprised by the tolerance the danish giant has for the polish firm since they started to patent individual elements and some of them COBI is still using. 7 hours ago, allanp said: There's a chance for something good here, maybe the first F1 car with a gearbox (except for 8880 b model). Don't want to crush your dreams, but look at the part count and price and you'll see there is little chance for the things you mention. This isn't a flagship set but merely a placeholder for the Racers category "200$ licensed racing car from Technic elements held together by stickers" (aka 42096, 42125, 42141, 42156). Oh and they jacked up the price by 10% in case you haven't noticed. :( Edited November 30, 20231 yr by R0Sch forgot the stickers :))

My bad - I saw COBI but my brain processed it as Corgi, a maker of scale model cars and other toys.
