Posted August 6, 20231 yr Pirates Mini Set MOC: 6300 Treasure Found (v2) The Pirate Captain seems to have been very successful in finding the treasure. It appears he has made good use of it since then. The monkey is also up to no good. Maybe innocent mischief or is it seeing his chance of breaking free from his master?! I'm quite sure TLG wouldn't allow any rogue designer to put this set on the market. Nevertheless it would have been a nice little set I think. Parts: 33 I'm not sure if if would fitter better in the 'new' era. A lot of parts used did not exist in my childhood years when I had most of the small sets, but it could also fit in style back then I think. The lid of the barrel and monkey are currently non-existing / recolored items (Dark Brown). All the other parts do exist already in the particular color etc. Note: the studio file can be found here. Before the suggestions from @Rogue Redcoat (v1):
August 6, 20231 yr The set looks pretty good so far, here are some things I would swap, a sword for the pirate captain, a bottle of rum instead of a teacup, and although they don't have the new monkey in stud.io I would, in theory, swap it for the new one, and perhaps a gem or a gold coin. Anyway, Happy building :)
August 7, 20231 yr Author I agree that those are great suggestions to make the point even more convincing :) Updated the image! And that last bit of grog might have been too much even for a seasoned Pirate Captain early in the morning:

August 7, 20231 yr Theme The pirate has a map, a monkey, a crab, a sword and a musket. So there's really little that can be improved here, but as there is no gold or other treasure, it leaves obvious room for modification. I'd hide the treasure in the barrel, but since you already have a purpose for it, and because of the set's title, I'd just plop it somewhere on the build surface (ex:an ingot, a coin tile, etc...). Build The set has a good amount of detail-the puddle of rum is a good idea! The build does suffer from too much darkness-the fern pieces should be light green and the sand should be light tan, as it currently makes the whole set seem like it's set in the deep jungle and not on the beaches of the caribeans, other than that, the rocks are well done so I've got no other comments.
August 7, 20231 yr I really like this -- it captures the original 90s pirate charm with a build that's very clearly modern. With all the animals and accessories, there's some great room for storytelling and play. I like the colors overall, and the dark brown/dark gray/dark green feels very modern, but I think the sand should be light tan, and perhaps a plate 8x8 or 10x10 with a rounded end. I like the spilled rum, but there are a lot of very innovative techniques for creating pouring liquids -- I'd love to see one of those used here. And please don't add gold, I think @Horation may have missed the fact that the true treasure was the rum we found along the way
August 7, 20231 yr I love this! The plant build is simple yet well done, and the spilt rum is a great addition.
August 7, 20231 yr Awesome! :D So much life in such a economical set :) I agree that it's probably not something Lego would put in toyshops' shelves, but i'd totaly would love a whole bunch of these anyway :) You gonna do more of such scenes? With different characters in different situations? I'd love to see more of them :)
August 7, 20231 yr Author Thanks all for the great feedback everyone. I agree that some additional plates would make it more appealing as a store set but it would bump the part count considerably: This already bumps it to 38 pieces. So for the purpose of the challenge I would stick to v2 I think (i.e. the one on top).
August 16, 20231 yr What a cute little set and a great idea despite the certain liquid being the main theme (: I guess that for being a perfect army builder this set would probably contain an ordinary pirate, for who needs more than a few captains? But this is really nit picking for there is not much more to be added.

I agree with this assessment though the use of so many dark colors lacks some contrast. Adding light tan sand as was suggested could do it or using a lighter colored barrel to highlight it. A reddish brown barrel should do it. My point being too much dark so it needs some light colors to add some contrast.
August 22, 20231 yr Joli petit set ! Le capitaine et son fidèle complice le singe ont encore l'air d'avoir frappé et trouvé leur trésor ! Ce trésor semble tout de même être plus liquide que constitué d'or...
