Return of the Classic Pirates Contest
Creative Critic Leaderboard

This topic offers a evaluations of Creative Critic performance based on the following criteria:

Written Assessment Criteria

These criteria assessed the critics' writing abilities:

  • The helpfulness of each critics' feedback.
  • Whether the building entrant considered or actioned feedback received by critics.
  • Whether the critics' engagement stimulated the discussion surrounding the entry.

Activity Assessment Criteria

These criteria assessed the level of participation in relation to other critics:

  • When the critic commenced and/or ceased participation.
  • Whether the critics' feedback encompassed a wide variety of entries spanning the entire duration of the contest, or just entries submitted during a certain time frame.
  • Whether the critic followed up on their initial feedback and the frequency of their response when directly engaged
  • The length and comprehensiveness of the critics' responses
  • Whether the critic also participated in contest administration topics or just entry topics.
  • Whether the critic took creative initiatives beyond the initial expectations.
  • Whether the critic adhered to the Creative Critic terms and conditions.
  • The helpfulness of the critiques and feedback
  • Whether the builders consider or action the feedback
  • Whether critic engagement has stimulated the discussion

A Creative Critic left very helpful feedback on my entry -  I think it should be noted!
Building category entrants may also nominate critics who've provided useful feedback by posting in this topic and explaining how their feedback helped.

Another topic dedicated to this matter will be available after August 27.

I haven't registered but I've provided feedback, does it still count?
No. If you haven't registered,  your feedback has not been evaluated.

Registrations have closed.

Nonetheless, you may register now and any feedback you've left will be included in the next evaluation.

Is it too late to register or participate?

Yes, the contest has ended and the winner has been announced.

No.  But to be fair to critics who have participated throughout the entire duration of the contest, you'll need to consider earlier entries, not just those from the time you register or commence participation.  If you're able to reignite discussion in those topics, that will count in your favour.

So don't expect to swoop in towards the end with some great feedback on a few recent entries and expect that will land you the prize - you'll need to put in as much work as the critics who have been most engaging overall.

This is not a final evaluation because weeks remain before the contest ends and the leaderboard positioning may change based on further critic activity.

I agree. That was because I had to focus on the building part of the contest (preparation of my entry which is yet to be shown). :pir-classic:

If I find the time, I will post more feedback, if not, well, there are those who will get the job done. :pir-classic:

While thank you dear Governor for my review, but I may have unintentionally registered for this category when expressing my surprise at Piraten registration for this category. :pir-grin:

All of mine useful (and one or two less useful) comments were given for the benefit of the overall contest.

So please, feel free to remove me from this list so we can have better view at the fine members who are doing most excellent job at giving constructive feedback, especially to those three in leading position. :pir-huzzah2:

Thank You for Your kind words. As for those early entries i simply didn't have time to go through as many of them as i'd like too, so I could only review them selectively, but I've been bookmarking them from the beginning, and I'll hopefully manage to leave feedback to all the participants as it woudln't be fair to omit any of them ;)

I absolutely agree with this tally!

The feedback and reviews of the top 3 have been fantastic in each entry, and have certainly helped in redesigning builds iv entered!

Just a few days off the forums for some life stuff, but worry not, I'm back! (:

Actually, I only registered because I feared that there would not be enough participants. It's time to try harder! :pir-triumph:

Aye, I do agree I took a week for vacation but I'm back now, but I still don't see those neglected entries from the first few weeks.

Sorry, I kind of got put off checking up on the contest after the sour user started ranting about how the contest was unfair.  I stopped checking in on the contest so much after that. I'll see what folks have been making now.

Wait a moment...  Upon further review you have indeed gone back and commented on those older entries... but your comments are perhaps less detailed than some of the other critics. :pir-classic:

But you've been doing a fantastic job - definitely in the top 5!

I don't have a proper excuse, I've put too many Irons in the Fire away from the Forums, and I let this slip by the wayside. I thought it would be fun (it is!) But the deadline kinda snuck up on me! Throwing a magnifying glass to these next few entries, with some choice critique and encouragement, as well as an apology to Phez and Co for me Taking this lightly!

No apology necessary!

This is a contest, not a chore so there is no obligation to participate...  but lack of participation may serve as a competitive disadvantage.  Let's see what happens!

Having given it much thought, I decided to withdraw from further participation in the Creative Critic contest. It just doesn't sit right with me to comment on other entries, which has to include looking for and pointing out possible drawbacks, in a situation where I have submitted an entry of my own. Were I not a participant in the building category, I would have a different approach to this task and feel more comfortably about it. So I wish the best of luck to other critics who are still providing their valuable feedback. :pir-classic:

Same story here :kahuka: I reckon I'd have made the same comments in various entries whether this part of the contest was running or not.

And just a general comment to say I'm working through my votes now and it's very difficult to whittle the main category down to five. A lot of top-notch entries will be missing out.

The long overdue update is now available in preparation for the final report.

Creative Critic Assessment

TimGoodwin
Provided some brief but useful feedback within the first week of the contest but has ceased participation.

Interactive Bricks
Provided decent feedback on some of the earlier entries but participation ceased entirely after July 20.

hikouki
Participated for a single day and contributed short posts asking questions.

JeffBuilds
Only participated for 3 days with very brief feedback.

Seaber
Some good, yet brief feedback in early July.  Participation stalled after a few days.

_R_R_
Started the contest providing good feedback but became significantly less active after posting own entries and did not contribute to the same level as the top performing critics.

NOD
Leaves decent feedback but nowhere near as active as some of the other Creative Critics. Participation spiked around August 8-11 but died off thereafter.

Dreamweb
Imparted some useful building advice during  the earlier part of the contest but participation waned after a few weeks and was mainly focused on replying to feedback on his own entries.

thewatchman
While useful, feedback was provided as lists or in brief posts rather that in a format that engaged conversation with other forum members.  Though it must be noted participation was maintained until the close of voting.

durazno33
Provided helpful feedback during the early phase of contest but entered hiatus around July 10.  Reemerged towards the end of August with consistent feedback. Initially not as comprehensive as other high performing critics, but after a couple of days his feedback blossomed in depth and articulation. Also, produced insightful video reviews for the entries.

Yoggington
Provided some helpful building advice with visual examples during the first month of the contest. While participation stalled during the middle of the contest, Yogginton returned with strong performance towards the end of August.  Also shared helpful concluding rationales with  insight behind into voting decisions and contributed an initial vote tally which acted as the basis from the spreadsheet used to count the final votes.

Rogue Redcoat
Great participation with feedback that stimulates discussion, although follow up communication is not as comprehensive as some of the other critics. Despite a slow period during mid August returned as a tour de force and participated until the end of September. Also, revised the entries that were neglected from first few weeks of contest.  Has also contributed ideas to administrative topics and demonstrated proofreading skills.

MstrOfPppts
Has since provided coverage of earlier entries resulting in thorough feedback for entries submitted throughout the entire contest. Subsequent feedback is often very detailed.   Has also excelled at providing useful suggestions in contest administrative  topics.

iragm
Maintained a high level of participation and provided comprehensive feedback throughout the entire contest.  Posts providing subsequent  feedback are quite often more detailed than the initial post. Has also contributed  useful ideas to contest administrative topics but not to the same extent as other critics.  Closing remarks during voting raised valid points but only accounted for the entries  Iragam considered for first place, rather than analysis of all entries voted for.

Mazin
Fantastic of level of participation and one of the most conversational critics.   Extremely active on entries submitted throughout the entire duration of the contest, despite initially neglecting earlier entries.  Provided an extremely comprehensive analysis for each entry he awarded votes, along with two essays; the first offering greater insight behind hi  voting decisions while the second an evaluation of the building aspect of the contest.  Also provided comprehensive feedback in some of the administrative topics.

Creative Critic Finalist Scores

Full details on how the Creative Critic winner was determined are now available.

Top Three Critics

It became increasingly challenging to select one critic for the prize winning position, with first preference alternating between MstrOfPppts, Iragm and Mazin on a near daily basis.  Had first, second and third prizes been available for the Creative Critic, these three participants would have all been awarded.

A commonality they shared was expanding upon their initial feedback in elaborate detail, rather than falling into immediate complacency. Less successful critics tended to focus their efforts in their initial post while their subsequent posts were perfunctory, seemingly made as a cursory obligation.

So what hoisted Mazin to the top?
