Posted August 9, 20231 yr I chose this set, cause it's one of my favourite official sets, I really like the styling, functionality and details @grohl managed to cram into it. Started working on this idea yesterday in LDD, currently some 50% done, please note that not all colors are defined yet. It will feature all of the functions from the original 42069, here you can see the fake engine: And of course, the intricate door opening mechanism which I still have to test IRL: Still have to finish the tent-lifting mechnism, rear slide-out drawer and the rear doors. The only issue was with that I had to replace the purple with another color, so I chose Dark Azure, but other than that so far so good. Edited August 9, 20231 yr by Zerobricks
August 9, 20231 yr I was waiting for someone who will take this model. I also planned to take this one, but due to other duties I resigned. Nevertheless I hope this model will fight for victory :)
August 9, 20231 yr Wow, so you are in :) Great model choice! Strangely I completely forgot this one when I considered all technic offroaders, albeit being a quite interesting one. Though did not know the original model so well, didn’t even know about the door opening mechanism. It will be nice to see it reproduced!
August 10, 20231 yr Author Thanks for the praise! Here's the progress update, slowly but surely finalizing the final details. Currently at over 1360 pieces! The rear door lock works and the roof with the integrated tent can be lifted using a Mini Linear Actuator. Also the rear drawer can be pulled out. And of course the most important photo for the true Technic enthusaists Can't wait to build a physical version over the weekend and to post more updates. Edited August 10, 20231 yr by Zerobricks
August 12, 20231 yr Wednesday evening - the first result of the work ... Thursday evenings - slowly but surely finalizing the final details. Yes, you are kidding me) If I just saw an image of your model on the Internet, I would think that this is an original set in the original scale, if not for the turquoise color. Very similar! Incredible speed and quality of design! I look forward to continuing

Hopefuly I can build the real one soon, only thing stopping me right now is a bit of a flu.
August 15, 20231 yr Author Thanks to the holidays, I managed to find the time to build and record the the finished 2/3 scale model of the 42069:. It measures 29 x 16 x 18 centimeters and it's made out of exactly 1444 pieces including the string: As with the original, the doors open and a shock absorbers keep them in either position, here's a quick animation of the doors opening and closing: Under the hood, there is a pin-based V8 fake engine, driven by all wheel drive: In order to demonstrate the fake engine, I pushed the model along a carpet: There are a lot of details replicated in the rear such as opening side doors, the rear door can be locked and the roof can be lifted to reveal the tent: This is how the roof raises and the tent opens up with a help of a mini linear actuator: Of course the model also features a live axle suspension on both axles, supported by 4 soft shock absorbers: It's quite bouncy, especially in the rear: Can't forget a photo of the underside: And lastly the photos from the updated digital version too: To summarize, here's a detailed video of the finished project: As mentioned in the video, I'm really happy about how this project turned out, it's really refreshing to try something different from time to time. Now if only I could get the fenders and connectors in dark purple, than it would be perfect!
August 15, 20231 yr Dark azure ended nice; better than expected. Imho you made great job, specially doors are impressive. But somehow it is hard to imagine you making manual models
August 15, 20231 yr Wow, that was fast. It's like a shortest build thread ever... But the model came out really well, have to give you that. Those gifs are really nice too :) Are there limiters preventing the track assemblies from freely turning around axles? I don't know if the original model had something like that either though.
August 15, 20231 yr Very nice model, watched the video with much interest. The function list is long. Too bad these models are not really playable without motors because of the high friction of the tracks. I see you do an attempt on a rough surface (door mat). Not your fault, you have put a lot of effort into the model and it turned out very well. Edited August 15, 20231 yr by Berthil
August 15, 20231 yr Wow … this was one I considered doing but dismissed because of the lack of purple small arches. I do like the azure blue it works well. And your model looks great, certainly better than I’d have hoped for.

I do build them but not as often. I will try to surprise you more often 2 hours ago, SaperPL said: Wow, that was fast. It's like a shortest build thread ever... Yes, the real one has limiters, I could add some, but they would eat up the valuable ground clearance. Since this is not going a commercial product, I don't think they are needed. 2 hours ago, Berthil said: Too bad these models are not really playable without motors because of the high friction of the tracks. Yes, at this scale there's no easy way to add rubber pieces for these small track links, so as with everything it's a compromise. Edited August 15, 20231 yr by Zerobricks

As a fellow Eurobricks contributor that quietly appreciates fellow builds it’s a shame about not be able to use purple 🙁 but as a fellow competitor in the TC25 I’m glad there had to be a compromise in this build 😁
August 16, 20231 yr I’d love to be able to spend 8-10 hours in a day working on a build! I’m lucky if I can get 2-3hrs over a weekend for Lego time!

August 18, 20231 yr Great end result, looks really nice and I like the functions! While building for this competition, I had the same feeling as you; it was good to build something out of the box that I would not do normally and something that does not have to be super sturdy because it's not motorized and hence I need not worry and can use some more lousy building techniques that would not cut it otherwise :)
August 23, 20231 yr @Zerobricks Great job! I also wanted to collect it for the competition. Will there be instructions?

August 30, 20231 yr Looking forward to instructions on this, I might even have to build the original. I was thinking what other colour combinations are possible? White with Red arches ?
