Ok, thank you guys!

...

About that LEGO experimenting. We should count who many space related sets have been made since 2013. We are talking about 10 years time. I would say that there is huge amount of space sets BUT all over different themes. This year 2024 is amazing - think about it 1 second. We are getting space sets all year long. MAYBE if these sets are popular. Not just CITY/Space but all of them. Could TLG continue this "space subtheme" in 2025? AND if yes... then it could be possible that we would get an OWN space theme.

Both 90-anniversary sets have been very popular. In time their value will be much higher. Maybe it takes 10 years, but still.

10305 Lion Knights' Castle and 10497 Galaxy Explorer absolutely dominated this poll and that was hardly surprising, as both are extraordinary sets. However, I was surprised to see the Lion Knights' Castle seize first place, as the Galaxy Explorer received many more nominations and I expected the cost of 10305 Lion Knights' Castle to damage its chances of victory.

Personally, I do consider 10305 Lion Knights' Castle the superior set, but I think 10497Galaxy Explorer provides far better value and is essentially a must-have for any LEGO fan.

I take it his source was that the galaxy explorer was always on sale (at least at Walmart) because they weren't selling at full price.

The set never got below 25% off in my country in Europe  , most of the time not even 10% off.

In fact it was only 1 shop that was allowed to do discounts here, which is one that works together with LEGO and sponsors LEGO Masters here, so I assume some deal with LEGO was in place on exclusivity.

A few  stores try to sell it above retail price (€130-160) right now, which seems to indicate they bought set at retail , but try to make profit.

If it was a really bad seller or LEGO overproduced them , they'd be dumped like some of the later Vidiyo, LEGO Movie 2 , Hidden Side, etc, even LEGO themselves had 30-50% off on their site, if it were a bad seller, they needed to get rid of.

Maybe LEGO did overproduce for Walmarts tho.

I would never buy it on full price at walmart, when you get Insider Points and GWP when you buy it for the same price at Lego ;). And aside from the US, I didn´t hear from any discount even close to this from any other country.

Also, unlike in the US we also didn´t got any discount on it for Black Friday from Lego on it - which would likely have been the case if it hadn´t sold - I would have loved to get it discounted however ;) - same as the Castle, but that is another story.

Mmm, love those grey tyres. I like that the space technic has a little variety for the tyres now.

I am wondering if some of the space technic will be a good gift for my friend (she worked as a physicist for the Pentagon!!!) she likes LEGO and Space but has not really ventured past the system sets. However, I think she would enjoy something replicating actual gear.

Hard to tell since every person is different, but personally, beeing interested mainly in System myself, I really like the VTOL, which actually looks pretty cool IMO. Not that much interested in the other three sets, though.

Agree.  It's very likely 10497 sold very well.  Lego discounted it to $80 on their website on Black Friday and it was sold out within hours, which meant they had very little stock on hand.

Walmart discounted it to $48.50 last Friday, and stores were sold out within hours to a few days, which also means Walmart had no excess stock.  Just selling what was in stores.

If 10497 didn't sell well there would have been a lot of stock on hand.  I've seen sets on Lego.com discounted for months and they still can't get rid of their stock.  It took months for 21337 Table Football to sell out on Lego.com at 40% discount.

On the other hand (as I said earlier in the thread), I don't think 10497 selling well means we will get more CS-themed sets in 2024.  Maybe further down the line... 2025, 2026??  Who knows.  I've been getting the feeling lately that Lego is functioning more and more like a company making decisions that only make business sense, and not being loyal to a particular fan base or producing what AFOLs are seeking.  I'd be very curious to know what portion of Lego sales are to AFOLs vs. the traditional children's toy market.  Lego is certainly looking to expand it's customer base  to adults with it's "Adults welcome" category, but I'm wondering if these are just larger, more complicated and expensive sets than addressing AFOL "wants."

Also within afols there are many categories: decades-long fans (like most people here), set collectors, moc builders, Star Wars/Harry Potter/etc. fans, etc. I suspect TLG doesn't care so much about moc builders and doesn't see us as such a big revenue source. They can make much more money selling $500+ Star Wars sets or $400+ Technic cars who are not into Lego specifically.

They seem to have had trouble selling the big Razor Crest though. It has been often discounted at 30% and I got it for $350 after combining several discounts. I am not even familiar with that TV series and wasn't planning to get it, but the engines and interior look beautiful to a space fan.

All the Walmart stores in my part of the USA are still selling their last few copies of 10497 for full price.

Local one here had 10497 on the shelf at full price, but if you bought online for pickup at store, it was $48.50.  My daughter picked up one off the shelf then wanted a price match at the register.  They reluctantly matched the website price but the worker didn't want to.  A bit silly, really, but that's how they operate.  Target often has "online only" prices, but I've found they always match the website price in store if you ask.

Well, I found the new 2024 City Space sets at Target. I got a few of the Space Construction Mechs, the 4+ set, and the big Space Base and Rocket Launchpad. I would have been down for a few Hover Bikes and Intergalactic Spaceships but they didn't have any.

This is the first time I've been able to snag a new Space set before Christmas. I wanted to get Benny's Space Squad for Christmas of 2018 but nobody had them out early. So I'm pretty stoked for Christmas this year! It's going to be nostalgic.

2nd image from top. Look carefully that BOX and what are their finding?

The playset also includes a planet scene where explorers can discover alien plants and an energy crystal.

2_897103-3500x3500.jpegHave you noticed this image...? If you put that FOOD-module on top. It will leave space for 1 more module. I think space station looks a lot more interesting that way.

Where should I put the drone from 60430?

If you get the Modular Space Station set it looks like it could fit on the same docking platform used for the "speeder bike" in that set.

You can also attach that, the communications module, and the hoverbike dock module to the ends of other standard modules to free up more space and expand the station.

I like these even more after seeing this video. I am planning to buy fist that Interstellar spaceship and small rover (6-wheels). Minifigures also are even better that I realised.

Yeah there are some pretty cool features included. What actually surprised me most is, the way you can use the ground bases spaceship to actually carry all the containers.
