I'm down for City Castle. 👍

I still have my doubts that that would work for Castle and Pirates - and I don´t think they will do it. While with Space you can easily do it, since it is a modern theme, it won´t work with those. And theme park sets aside from little GWP Sets seem unlikely to me.

Right.

I was jokingly excusing Castle for being similarly out of place in City as sci-fi spaceships and aliens, and jokingly discarding any concerns about what the box says.

Obligatory smart-aleck example of why it should be allowed:

Well, I would say we WONT get: Castle, Pirates, Western as a OWN theme.

BUT there is big possibility to get OWN Space theme. Difference is night and day if we speak about SPACE. I would say that problem is Star Wars. Space could be super popular in the long run. Even bigger / more popular than SW.

Lol, it was just a joke. I’m down for City Pirates :P

LEGO won't make own Castle or Pirates theme... reason... WAR?

BUT same time they make LOTR & Hobbit and Pirates of the Caribbean... with SPACE... we have Star Wars... but what about own space theme which is not all about war. BUT also research, new energy sources, mining and travelling in space...

Noone said that would be the reason they are not making those own themes again. They might aswell do that in the future again but for now it seems unlikely - as for the reasons they are not doing it, we can only speculate anyways, only Lego will know for sure.

However now that they are doing the retro Sets, it does seem unlikely we will get a wave of sets with an own theme, especially when we see the number of other themes around.

These new space sets look superb to me! I like the different functions and ranks. Blue Pilots, Green Scientists and Yellow Engineers. Interestingly, the three leaders have special features. Blue leader has a constellation tattoo, Green leader has the eye visor, and Yellow leader has a metal arm.

Yes, and there is also an admiral... is see that they have done great research from Riddley Scott and Christopher Nolan movies like... Alien franchise, The Martian, Interstellar for example. That Admiral is straight from Prometheus! (BIG sci-fi movie fan here)

Also about that energy... Purple plants, Violet crystals, combination of both and also super crystal which gives POWER of whole planetary BASE. In Friends Space set they are in Mars BUT that planet is further away. Interstellar spaceship is useful. We have 3 colours with 3 groups... and the Admiral on top of them. And let's not forget how many droids / robots there are in total. This will be 1 of the most popular factions of all time. They are related (2022) sets which I own...

If LEGO continues this... think about the size of this faction in 5-6 years. We are talking about 50-100 sets...

Lego City minifig styles are usually one-year designs. Look at the past 2 city space styles. They were similar to be sure, and interchangeable, but different.

If you look how much space sets lego makes? A lot... Space 2011, 2015, 2019, 2022 ... and now 2024. AND that is only CITY/subthemes. This faction has evolved. We can say they started 2011. They have evolved also in different themes like Friends.

Hello all,

Today I bought my first SPACE set (2024) ... [Interstellar Spaceship]
Tomorrow I will make a stand for it. Probably similar than XL-15 (Disney & Lightyear).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

small REVIEW

set: 98/100

+ it is a same spaceship than in the LOGO

+ minifigure + accessory are very nice colour and fit together very well

+ if you push spaceship from top - it opens up thrusters... that makes spaceship very much a live

+ ALL prints! NO stickers! AMAZING!!!

+ price is super LOW from this beauty

+ new colour (reddish orange) makes you smile

+ in small VIOLET BATTERY ... from outside it looks that there is inside many small, very very small crystals... it looks real energy source

+ window colour is nice, minifigure looks also nice inside of spaceship

+ package is perfect - that SPACE-LOGO BRANDING is 100 % ... premium product

... and list goes on and on...

- WARNING!!! I am 1000 % sure - if you buy this set you will buy many many more space sets in 2024. This is not a JOKE ... LEGO has hit in gold mine... gold mine full of violet crystals and purple plants!!

...
We might get OWN space theme BUT it means that we really have to buy all these sets. AND it is not a problem. Buy this for example and you are hooked. ... OK!? 98 % ... what's going on. WELL! it would be amazing if LEGO would allways make a stand in spaceships. Not black stand but transparent. Even it cost more OR even make instructions for us to buy. What kind of stand is perfect for the Interstellar Spaceship.

1 LAST THING. ............................ LEGO ........... if any of you out there are listening, seeing this MESSAGE... THANK YOU <3 this set is so much more than I ever imagined. - 2 % comes that STAND would be must have... anyway, it is even hard to imagine how thankful I am for LEGO that they listen us fans. SPACE is important. SPACE is the future. SPACE as a OWN theme - yes please!

I am glad they didn´t make any stand for this. First of all this is a playset, and what would kids need a stand for it? It would only make the set more expensive and likely less people would buy it then. Also you can easily build your own stand if you feel the need for it.

Very cheap set. You can play with it. And in stand it looks amazing. Kids have to learn where keep their LEGO's. AND I suggested that LEGO could make and sell stand instructions. Or maybe even sell separately beautiful transparent stands.

I just built the space ship from 60434 and it's a very cool design. And also no stickers! Though there are stickers in other parts of the set.

I like to think that the designers of the 2024 Space sets were trying to achieve exactly what I want and took it as far as they could within the constraints put on them by corporate. Can't do a separate Space theme because of Star Wars? Then we'll put Sci-Fi space in City! Can't do colored canopies because cool looking color schemes will embarrass the boring gray SW spaceships? Then we'll do trans black which is the next best thing. Penny pinchers in corporate hate prints? Then we'll put all the prints we can in a 4+ set and reuse them.

I even see evidence that they tried to get more prints. Some of the stickers are reused in multiple sets or multiple times in the same set, which makes me suspect the designers intended for them to be prints. Like the matching console stickers in both bases. Also the danger stripe sticker on the dark yellow tile in the Space Construction Mech was probably originally intended as print; two of them could have replaced the 2x2 stickered tile in 60434.

You're definitely assuming at least one "corporate constraints" that isn't there. Colorful canopies/windscreens are still fairly widespread in other themes, including the Dreamzzz Space Car from this year, the Dreamzzz Space Bus from last year, and the Galaxy Explorer and a Monkie Kid spaceship just two years ago. There are plenty of benefits of trans black being used here, including it being basically the newest transparent color, it being a relatively realistic take on the kind of solar shielding actual spacecraft windows could need, and it not favoring any particular color of astronaut in a theme with multiple colors of uniform. So I don't see any reason to assume that it had to have been any sort of "runner-up" choice on the part of the designers.

Really? Wow, that's very good news.
I thought the atmosphere intakes on the wings were stickers, but I'm glad to be wrong.

I think this was a good way to introduce many parts to the new color , and Friends still has some new purple windows as well.

Especially the City Space base has 8 of those very angular windows, 4 of which make a stretched octagon, very useful for spaceship designs that don't want to look rounded, as the old octagons seen in themes like Futuron, Blacktron 2, or Aquazone have long retired.

Also the partly curved panels can further help with some of those older space base designs using long window panels.

I know the color isn't the same, but new trans-black is a universal enough color to be used as stand in, as there are plenty of new opaque colors to use as accent nowadays imo.

Is it the best solution ? no, but I personally would not mind doing some MOC using trans-black windows and then use normal non-transparent pieces for some color.

I don't even think a design like 6932: Stardefender 200, or 6981: Aerial Intruder wouldn't look too terrible with new parts (like the newer half octagon windows , and curved panels instead), maybe the trans-black would make it like a special covert-ops variant , probably purist blasphemy, but that's what I imagine can still work.

Also this space subtheme introduced the new Orange as bright accent color, which if replaced by let's say Blue, you'd have a Futuron branch of this subtheme, or perhaps yellow or vibrant yellow on black, would be a blacktron branch. (again not purist but what could be interesting)

To be honest, I'd probably rather use Ice Planet remakes with trans-black windows, the new orange, white and blue, instead of reverting to regular trans-orange if the choice was not to use neon orange windows, would it look weird? probably, but I also think Classic Space builds with very curved designs look a bit weird, it's all about opinion. Of course there have been themes like Nexo or early Monkie Kid which have boosted the available parts in trans neon orange, while some other space window colors have been more scarce in angled shapes.

My point is, that trans-black can be used as "neutral" windshield color, including completely new thought up factions,  with then colors filled in the rest of the model,  and then used for many builds, still much nicer color then old trans brown, or something like trans-light blue imo.

Was there ever any proof for the claim Lego isn´t allowed to do an own Space theme? I have heard it often enough here, but it is just hard to belive, that it really exists. First of all it would just not make any sense at all to make an agreement, that doesn´t allow Lego to make an own Space theme but basically lets then sneak it in as a subtheme and create spaceship in several other themes like Monkey Kid, Dreamzzz or Icons.

As for the colours of the windshields, I would also think the reason is mainly because the city sets, even now beeing themed in the future have an more realistic look, that is intended to look like it is developed from earlier city spaceships.

No proof, just conspiracy theories.

Just speculation from the years with and without Space, and from the timing of Star Wars and Marvel movies.

All the 2024 City fire department flame logos  and 6 of the fire vehicle numbers are printed for 2024, so it's not just 4+ sets leading to getting more prints treatment, overall there has been a big increase in prints in City, also the flames and burger sign in the burger truck are then printed, 5 wanted posters in the Police sets as well, and the go-kart stripes etc, and the danger stripes do actually appear as a 1x2 tile in the Crook hideout set, altho the ones in the mech are stickered due to being a different yellow.

However, there are also still examples of LEGO using the same sticker like multiple times in a set as well, like the prison brick wall pattern x4, the space station airlocks x8 , or the race truck stripes x4, or the little 1x2 owl logo x3.

LEGO has been adding more stands in more sets , 31126: Supersonic-jet from 2022, and now 31152: Space Astronaut from 2024 for example.

The avatar theme had a bunch of stands as well, some being transparent.

The quality of LEGO - the quality of LEGO CITY/subthemes. . . . . . For example:

- Space (2022)

- Exploration (2023)

- Space (2024) + Police (2024) + MAYBE even Jungle (summer 2024)

-------------------------------------------------------------

Most amazing thing in that Interstellar spaceship is the quality. Look at those parts. Shape, colour, size, quality overall... LEGO design teams take this thing seriously. HOW TO DEVELOP a "theme" / "subtheme" inside CITY which is enough NASA Space than Sci-fi Space.

I think this is very close. AND please consider to watch movies like: Interstellar, Aliens, Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, The Martian... it is all in this faction which started in 2011, then continued 2015, 2019, 2022 and now 2024. AND those space themes 2012, 2013... EVEN some City fans accept this new theme even they see that OMG! there is aliens. It not just alien plants. They have eyes.

This line-up is super close OWN theme - BUT so is Arctic and Deep Sea ... which both were OWN themes and are now combined under CITY/Exploration. So what this means is that all SPACE sets, most of them will be collected under CITY/space. So we actually kind have already an own space theme. That SPACE BRAND in boxes felt like, wow! space, space, space ... everywhere when yesterday I was in a bigger shop. Space theme showed everywhere.

We have even a NEW COLOUR for space. And later this year we will even see those incredible Technic sets. It is not just a subtheme. It is not just a logo in a box. Actually we have own space theme. (Own Arctic+Deep Sea+Jungle+Volcano = EXPLORATION. Own Police and Fire so on....)

CITY is so massive general theme that it is necessary to have these own lockers.

Looking at past City Space, it does not look like there is a series, with the same aesthetic, to continue the following year with a full wave.

I hope there are more waves and maybe continue with this aesthetic  for next year or two.

I hope so.

I don't think this is experimenting in the way you think. While there is a faction that wants more classic space, it's pretty clear that 10497 did NOT sell well (for whatever reason you think that may be - I know people have different opinions on that set). LEGO KNOWS that space sells well between Ideas sets, Lunar Lander, etc., so this is just them capitalizing on that with a variety of space-inspired products to tie together themes.

It is sadly a bit presumptuous to think LEGO is moving towards more classic space when most of what is releasing for space fig-wise is more akin to mars mission than anything else.

It is more sad to see Classic Space AFOLs loosing their faith.

Lego space city theme moved from NASA designs to SCI FI stuff, we got 10497 and a new Invader sets, two new color classic space astronauts and some classic space fans still want to see the glass half empty.
