Lyichir Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 (edited) Today I got a bunch of sets on my wishlist including the Space Base and Rocket Launchpad set, which I just finished building! Very satisfying build. A little thing that I certainly appreciated was that the stickers for the 2x4x5 cylinders (used in each corner of the interior of the main base) had big margins that extended beyond the small rectangular decorations, making them much easier to line up with the edges of the part (always appreciated, especially for stickers that need to be applied to a non-flat surface). I hadn't noticed before now that the "orange squad captain" has a titanium metallic left arm—it's ambiguous but I like to imagine that it's meant to indicate that arm is a mechanical prosthetic, maybe to replace a limb that was lost or damaged in hazardous construction/mining work. I wish the flat top minifig wig (25379) came in dark grey to match his beard since I feel like that'd be a good fitting hairpiece for his head print. I also just checked and am pleased that the smaller interstellar spaceship fits reasonably well on the launchpad from this set (even though it doesn't "lock on" as securely since it lacks the 8-wide removable module and the pyramid slopes from the intended spacecraft that slot nicely into the classic "space seat" part used on the launchpad). EDIT: Actually just realized a simple solution to that last issue is to simply add some bricks (I used 1x2 inverted slopes) on the exposed backs of the "space seat" parts so that both spacecraft slot between them. SpaceFace Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 (edited) Hello. I also made some modifications to make the ramp a bit more stable. Now the spaceship can fly. Edited January 24, 2024 by SpaceFace Quote
Mandalorianknight Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 A friend of mine found a set of Galaxy Explorers at Walmart for $35 each yesterday. Me and my friends cleaned the shelf of 'em (this is my second copy, but $35 was too good to pass up), but that doesn't bode super well for the set sales wise. Quote

Don't worry, I've seen crazy a$$ prices for all kinds of sets recently, even very popular SW space ships. It means nothing. Especially at Walmart. They had the Galaxy Explorer at promotional prices right after it came out. And they were selling the Tie Fighter for $25. And for every comment I read about someone finding a Galaxy Explorer on sale, I see many more complaining that they never see it on sale. I'm one of those people. Quote

I love it. Quote

I dunno man, the TIE fighter being $25 is a $15 discount or 37.5% off. The galaxy explorer is a $65 discount, 65% off. That's the biggest % discount I've ever seen on a lego set at a major retailer. The latter part of your comment is certainly correct though- a single walmart is not a huge sample size- it could certainly just be that that particular walmart was having trouble selling them. Quote
Mondo-TRON Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 I hope the Space Science Lab could have the 87375 quarter domes in trans black. It could be something like the Friends igloo set build. Instead of the door, it would be the airlock. With computer, microscope and maybe a place to store the alien plant life. Quote

I think it could be that. Walmart is weird. I got 60349: Lunar Space Station for a crazy price there, like $25 on clearance. I also saw some Marvel sets similarly marked down but didn't pull the trigger. Bricklink is awesome because it has actual data. The Galaxy Explorer has sold about half as many times in the past month as the most recent X-Wing and Tie fighters, even though it's twice as expensive, and even though it's not Star Wars. And at about the same discount when compared to retail. I think that bodes extremely well for it. Quote

The quarter domes in trans black would be a GREAT recolor. I think those could make for a cool "top module" for the ring-shaped space station. Quote

I've occassionally found some deals that I thought were really good only to see others report finding the same sets for a lot less than what I paid. Quote

Yes, Walmart clearances seem to be super inconsistent. The other day, I was at a WM, actually looking for any Galaxy Explorers that they had on clearance, and they had a few sets from last summer marked 50% off, and then 3 Yavin IV sets with clearance tags marked at...$170. Like, they went through the trouble of printing out those yellow clearance price stickers and moving them from the LEGO aisle to the clearance section, when it was literally the same price that they were already going for. Furthermore, not only is that the original price, it's actually one cent more than it costs to buy directly from LEGO Edited January 26, 2024 by Kit Figsto Quote
danth Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 (edited) I made it to a Lego store this weekend. Still had Optimus Primes, Nintendos, BttF Deloreans, Lion Knight's Castles. But they didn't have any Galaxy Explorers. I can only take that to mean that the Galaxy Explorer sold out before all the others. Either that or Walmart got all of them. EDIT I guess the other sets aren't retired yet. Edited January 29, 2024 by danth Quote

Galaxy Explorer is Retired, while Lion Knights Castle and the others are not. So yeah, well Galaxy Explorer is gone, but I don´t see why the others should sell out since they just get new ones. Quote

I can't follow the logic of stores in my area, other than it all coming down to supply and demand. Galaxy Explorer still having excessive stocks here, I don't know if they overstocked or just not selling well but I see this at more than a single store. BttF DeLorean (same year) have been nearly impossible to find except online. Even the 2 years older ECTO-1 can still be found albeit pretty hard. Never seen the Lion Knight's Castle or any big Icons anywhere in a physical store, but I'm guessing the price tag plays a role too. They stock up what they think they can sell and are probably aiming at the average audience who comes shopping. The only expensive sets that seem very popular here are the Technic sets. Quote

Some sets are never sold in physical stores outside of LEGO's own, or they have some limited exclusivity contract, or it's a reseller trying to sell them for higher then RRP. I see this all the time with webstores too. Quote

Lion King Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 I was surprised to see Galaxy Explorer sill in stock on Lego website in USA, I thought it was retired by Dec 31. But today, I saw that it is out of stock. Quote

Japanbuilder Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 I am really digging the new Sub Theme in space for 2024. Already got a a couple of that interstellar ship set and 2 of the 4+ sets just cause all those printed elements and the land plates are too sweet to pass up. I think I will get the big land base next and then probably the station after that. I am on the fence about the large 8 wheeled rover set but I might end up getting up later. The color scheme too is really great plus the printed elements with the space logo are lit. Quote
