mantax Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 I just realised something. In the march wave there is a 4+ fire source dragon, and now we have a rumour that the summer wave will also include a Source Dragon of Fire. So that could mean that both of the sets feature the same dragon in them. Of course the 4+ one is really simplified, but we can make out some features from it that could be in the bigger one. First of all the dragon has four wings, that is a really nice feature to have in a dragon, and that would also make it seem more special from a regular dragon. It will have a red and dark red color scheme with some trans red on the wings, but that's expected for a fire dragon. It would also have a golden upper jaw with some black horns. But this is just a speculation, but I think that it would make a lot of sense for it to be the case. Quote
THELEGOBATMAN Posted January 15, 2024 Author Posted January 15, 2024 They did a really weird thing with waves this year. They are so unevenly spread. Winter gets 16 sets (11 sets in January and 5 sets in March), while Summer gets only 6 (all sets in June). Wonder why they did that. Perhaps the fact that all three waves are rumoured to be based on a single season doesn't help and they can only do so much with it. Quote

And IMO there’s plenty to be excited for in all the waves. Cheap mechs in W1, Ras’s shadow dojo and the dragon stone temple in W2, and finally the source dragon, Titan mech and unknown D2C set in W3. What does everyone think it is by the way? I’ve seen a growing number online say they want it to be a UCS style monastery, which honestly I can get behind. I’d love to see Ninjago explore with more adult oriented sets that aren’t just Ninjago city as there’s a lot of potential (don’t get me wrong though, I’m still personally hoping for a new city module), for example a minifig scale bounty, a city of ouroborus, or maybe a big fire temple (I guess dragon stone temple is getting close to that anyways). There’s quite a bit they could do. I would absolutely kill for a minifig scale Titan mech that’s fully functional, like the dude on YouTube who does UCS versions of sets (talentedartsproduction). They would likely have to incorporate a new joint part though. Either way, very hyped! I do have to still grab some of the dragons rising sets, I think zanes car is top of my list so far. Temple of dragon energy cores and the dragon mech battle if I can find them for cheap. Quote
THELEGOBATMAN Posted January 15, 2024 Author Posted January 15, 2024 I hope that the D2C is fully based on Dragons Rising — either the Crossroads or the Monastery. We just got a new Ninjago City expansion last year, so I don't think we're getting another one this soon. Quote

Speaking of Ninjago city expansion, I have just (like 5 minutes ago) finished my newest and biggest module to date. Will post some pictures soon. To be honest I could see them do a “cross roads” Ninjago city module where it doesn’t have water on the sides, or maybe one side so it bridges the gap between Ninjago city modular and icons/created expert modulars. That would be cool. I’d still like to see a UCS bounty or monastery. If we got a UCS monastery this year, then the year after next (supposing they release every 2 years) that would put it inline with the timeframe for a new bounty set. Getting a full scale new bounty design to correspond with the show (maybe the season sees the ninja travel around new-Ninjago on the bounty doing small tasks) would be absolutely amazing, as I always feel like the bounty sets really lack the interior and detail the show puts in, not to mention obviously the size. Classic_Spaceman Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 The Monastery is a good guess, and we are due for a remake! Quote
The_Fiery_Rooster Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 Very small wave it seems. Not too surprising given we're getting a March wave too. The only ones that sound interesting to me are the Tournament Arena, Cole's Titan Dragon Mech, and the Source Dragon of Fire. I've had this idea of a Ninjago mech that can transform into a dragon, so I'm hoping that's what Cole's mech will be? I also want to see how a dragon of that scale and parts count looks and feels, that's exciting. As for the Tournament Arena, I just hope it has plenty of figures and a good arena build. Are we expecting new villains for these? Or is it just more wolf warriors? From my understanding, the whole year is dedicated to DR season 2, but I haven't seen anything to confirm we're getting the same villains throughout. Also curious to see if the climber suits continue or if we get new ones. Maybe the villains will also get new variants, maybe some new generals? I would probably prefer that the sets use the same minifigs (makes them easier to collect) but I suspect they'll be changing things up like they do every wave. Quote

Yes btw, 2024 is entirely dedicated to NINJAGO: Dragons Rising Season 2, we will recieve the same villain faction (Wolf Mask Army/Clan) all throughout this year, perhaps with different generals and more variants? We should recieve similar but different suits to the climber suits, and (purely speculation on my behalf) tournament-like suits. Quote

I was actually thinking about the exact same thing. Well we had a post made by the designer of the wolf mask piece, and there he said that he designed it for the 1st half of 2024. So that might mean that it's only for the first half, or maybe not I'm not too sure on that. I personally would want it to be an anacondrai cultist type thing, since there is the Blood moon which gives the wolf warriors some weird effects. So later it might change them into actuall wolfs, just like Werewolves. In regards to the ninja, I would want them to keep the climber suits for the summer wave. Since baisicly the only repeats are Kai and Nya, So with that you would have to get all the sets to get them, except for Riyu and the dragon stone temple, which are baisicly said to be the best looking sets of the wave. Also there is no Sora in the sets, so that also isn't geat that there won't be a full suit line up, unless Arin is also reused from season 1. But I don't think they will keep the climber suits, since they are suits for a specific situation. In the summer there seems to be a tournament type thing, to which the bulky climber suits just don't fit into. Quote

Then we got the mech suits? I could see this wave being a combo of both. Quote

Either way I’m absolutely hyped to see these set images, but also kinda miffed that we didn’t get reveals on Sunday, it being the anniversary and all. Happened in 2021 but I guess that was a special case for 10 years. Quote

a guy from somewhere Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 Whilst we wait, Im proud to present my newest module: Ninjago city heights! So if you have been following this moc, then you will know that the original premise has shifted pretty dramatically from ninjago city airdocks. Originally this was going to house an airship landing pad, however I struggled in making it fit in and also having the docking tower be structurally secure, and eventually I just left it off and changed pace. The module has several callbacks to previous ninjago city media, such as the 2 storey keet-orange and dark azure building being a major piece of concept art when developing the original ninjago city set, along with its tiled roof build which is similar to lloyds apartment in the old set, even having a battle suit in the attic! The ring on top of the green house also references the ninjago city tower, albeit in a less impressive fashion. The greenhouse itself is a combination of wanting a central tree but also keeping the more compact and "built" sense of the original city set, and the record store has a direct colour match from a previous sketch model I made as a building in ninjago city, retaining the red, dark nougat masonry bricks, the trans blue windows and the black trim. Unfortunately most interiors are not as fully fleshed out as they could be, due to lack of available parts, but I have plans to finish them when I have access to my main parts selection. Another big part which will be updated in time is the large grey block on the left side, which currently sits empty, but will eventually contain a portal into another dimension. But im still waiting on a parts order for that. But its all in a state now where im comfortable showing it off, so here it is! The lower level features a diagonal canal which cuts through the base of the build, something which I wrongly identified when ninjago city gardens prelims leaked back in late December 2020, and since then I've wanted to incorporate that idea into a set. There are also plenty of monkie kid references throughout the build, a few more prominent than others (DBK, Chang'e) and another reappearing reference are the frogs! See if you can spot them all! The model features on the lower level: A small boat shed and shrine, with an apartment above it accessed via a bed trapdoor, a small dock for ships and a sandwich store above it, along with the main bridge and central supports, and a little tree on the side. On the second level, a records store, sponsored by VIDYO, and a second level that is under construction, with rooftop access to a crane. Next door is the Ninjago city greenhouse, where residents can chill inside. Theres a Koi pond at the back with some rocks, and a huge tree taking up the central room. Watch out for the yellow poison dart frog! Going around the side, a tall alleyway with a mysterious door on one side, head up the steps and scale the ladder up to the grating that will take you over to the apartment owned by one of the members of the fly-boarders, who can be seen zipping overhead, with a kitchen, table and a ladder up to the second floor, where a desk, shelf and bed can be found, along with a bed side table and a small hiding spot under the bed. On the roof of the greenhouse, industrial units and comms towers can be found. The large grey stone structure features the insignia of a rouge faction, who can be seen patrolling the streets with their black helmets and swords, looking for trouble. Enjoy! Let me know of any feedback and/or constructive criticism. Quote
Classic_Spaceman Posted January 17, 2024 Posted January 17, 2024 New short - Fugi-Dove lives!! Based on Riyu’s size, this obviously takes place after the mech shorts (though there seems to be an animation error near the end which shows Kai in his S1 outfit, despite his having his mech suit earlier in the short). It looks like the mech suits are the default outfits for the classic Ninja in S2 (Arin, Sora, and Wyldfyre have their S1 outfits still), and we get our first look at Zane in his. Overall, suit chronology in the sets is all over the place, so we will need to wait until the season drops to know what is canon and when it appears. My suspicion is that the mech suits are the new main outfits (they will just have them at the start of the season), and then we get the climber suits later in S2a; any tournament suits will probably show up in S2b, along with Lloyd’s Master robes (he probably gets them at the end of S2a or beginning of S2b). Also, I am now wondering if the 2024 Wyldfyre design is her version of the OG 6’s climber suits (which makes sense given that it appears in a set with climber Kai). 🤔 Quote

You have so many possibilities when it comes to Ninjago City Mocs and yet I have the feeling that certain standards simply have to be there: water - preferably under a bridge or "flowing around the corner". Lots of bright colors, interesting roofs, built higher than wide, various shops with "fan articles" or retro articles, fancy stickers. I'll find all of that here in your Moc. I love the figure with the red glasses and the red short cape. (from Lego Movie 2, right?) - next to the one with the crossbow. And it's very cool how Spiderman (Miles?) stands there in half-shadow with his white eyes. The other day I came across the article on BrickNerd with the frogs in the Lego world. Here you can find a few of them. You can never have enough frogs. :-) And especially your hoverboard gang is awesome. I'll take a closer look at the pictures. Keep up the good work. Maybe a dedicated thread for Ninjago City Layout would be a good idea. Quote

Rolyat24 Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 Can’t say that I’m overly excited for any of the summer sets until we see pictures. A lot of these have a potential to be hit or miss. I’m most looking forward to seeing Cole’s mech and how it stacks up against the previous titan mechs. I wouldn’t mind if the masked wolf warriors continued into 2HY considering I’m not planning on buying many 1HY sets. But I’m guessing we’ll see a slightly different or updated faction. As for the D2C, I’m hoping for a temple that will appeal to adult collectors, something like the Temple of Airjitzu from many years ago. Now that was a perfect set! Quote

When i dropped out of ninjago in around 2015, I think the splitting of HY really helped that. It was hard to be as attached to villains like I was with the serpentine. Also there is the march wave to look forward too. But I am in agreement. I want to see this faction continue one into 2HY. Quote
