About Ninjago legoland, at 7:14 he’s on a poster on a wall (meet Ninjago hero’s), looks like sleeveless, dragon’s scales on the torso, white half mask and a new armour piece, similar to season 11 but in the opposite side now. Most similar to those seen in the mech shorts. I don't think that is a new armor piece, it feels like it's just the regular s11 armor piece. Because that is just a render so it could be different, like the kai's climber suit on the side of the box has a lot of differences from the actual minifigure. From the design of Zane I'm a big fan of the new suit design. the dragon scales are a nice piece of design, and I was only missing the half mask piece in white so that would be a nice way to finally get it. The only think that I'm not a big fan of is the lack of light blue, because that color on Zane is what makes Zane suits the best of the whole ninja suit line up for me personally. It's nice that this would be available in a $10 set. The first leaks for the winter wave said that the ninja would have simmilar suits to the s3/s4 suits, which would be the perfect way do describe this new zane suit. So that seems really interesting for me right now on why we had descriptions for these suits. Quote
THELEGOBATMAN Posted January 21, 2024 Author Posted January 21, 2024 Huh, that's interesting. Wonder how the suits will be distributed throughout the year. We have three types of suits this year — mech, climber and tournament (plus Arin and Sora's random suits). Mech suits are probably meant only for the January wave. Climber suits will probably stay exclusive to only a handful of sets — 4+ Kai's Source Dragon, Kai's Climbing Mech, and it was mentioned that Cole has it in Arin's Buggy. Maybe the Dragonstone Temple, since the Ninja would have to climb it? Tournament suits will probably be the only suits in the June wave, and make an earlier appearance in some March sets, like the Shadow Dojo. Quote

Since from the box art we know that we are getting Climber Lloyd, and that is the only set from march that has a regular Lloyd minifigure, also from that we would have climber Zane since he is also rumoured to be only in that set. The Dragonstone Temple should have the climber suits as well. Quote

(Not that much in the context of the set I guess, unless they wear them for other activities than climbing, but it's good that all Ninja will appear in those suits.) I wonder if Sora and Arin will get new suits this year. Their original outfits will quickly get old, so I really hope they will start getting robes similar to the ones of the other Ninja. Quote

I think you’re right that it’s the s11 armor, which is a shame. That piece has been so overused, even more so than the previously overused ZX armor. It would be nice to see more variety. Quote
THELEGOBATMAN Posted January 21, 2024 Author Posted January 21, 2024 Yeah, it's been a while since we've gotten a new shoulder pad piece. Right now they've limited themselves to the ZX one and the SotFS one. I wish they've tried something new in terms of those. Maybe swap it to the other shoulder, make it slightly thicker, smaller and more rectangular? Quote

If the image is mirrored (which is easy to do with Zane, as he is the most symmetrical of the OG Ninja), then you could be right. 3 hours ago, THELEGOBATMAN said: I wonder if Sora and Arin will get new suits this year. I actually like the distinction of the original Ninja having uniform team suits while the new characters have a more unique and personalised wardrobe; it sets them apart, and allows LEGO to expand the roster without worrying about overlap (e.g. having to make Wyldfyre the dark red Ninja, not to be confused with the normal red Ninja Kai (who has also worn dark red)!). Also, it means that Skylor can come back without being confused with Arin (a concern that I had when his colour was first revealed). That said, I do expect that Arin and Sora will get new suits at some point (Wyldfyre already got one) - Maybe climber and/or tournament variants? Quote

I'm fine with their suits being different, but I don't like the fact that they are completely different, and that they stayed the same after the first season. For example — if OG Ninja get armoured suits for mechs, Sora and Arin should have armour (even if only minor) on their outfits too (so no hoodie Arin with a weird golden mask). If OG Ninja get tournament suits with face masks and no sleeves, Sora and Arin should also have those (but their actual design can be completely different and not follow the OG Ninja template). And so on. I want them to follow the basic principle with which the specific suits are designed, but not the actual suit template. It was done well in Season 1 — they had the same shoulder piece, but with customised hoods and completely different suit design. Quote

I'd be fine if they stopped using some of the Ninja for a while, and only came back to them in certain seasons, but it's kinda ridiculous that everyone is together wearing matching suits, and then there's Jay. Part of it's bias I'm sure, because Jay's been my favorite since I was a kid back when it came out, but the fact that every other ninja was in the team except him is really annoying to me. I haven't watched Dragons Rising yet, but do they even really talk about him? Didn't he and nya literally get married around 2018-2019? Should she not be at least a little interested in finding her husband, even if the ninja as a whole have written him off for whatever reason? Quote

Jay briefly shows up in the beginning flashback, and a small cameo-type scene, ALA Nick Fury in Iron Man- Spoiler He's been trapped in the Realm of Madness, and is working with that weird office organization. He barely misses Arin. He's my favorite Ninja too, and the group's lack of concern, especially his best friend and sorta-wife, really messes with me. I'm quite glad he's still getting suits though, I love his Mech suit. Edited January 24, 2024 by novareb Quote

They talk about him a few times, and Nya is visibly sad that he's lost. He makes a small appearance, but doesn't interact with any of the other Ninja. The annoying thing is that every single Ninja except for him has joined the team. Even Cole, who they were setting up as a single-episode appearance, came back and rejoined the team. It's just weird seeing all the other Ninja together without Jay, and I have no idea why the creators have made that decision. Either include all the original Ninja, or only some of them. Excluding a single one feels weird. Quote
a guy from somewhere Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Riyu has leaked. We are getting wave 1 Sora and Arin. But Sora finally has her accurate hair, which is amazing. That Riyu build though…. Wow. Certainly something. Hopefully it’s just the pose that makes it look awful. Quote
Agent Kallus Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Glad to see Sora's hair. On 1/23/2024 at 3:33 AM, Mandalorianknight said: Are we not getting a climber Jay? Shame. THELEGOBATMAN Posted January 24, 2024 Author Posted January 24, 2024 Really glad to see Sora finally got a new hair mould (weird that it's included in the March wave, but not the January one tho). Riyu doesn't look good tho, at least from this angle. Quote
mantax Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 I was thinking about getting the Riyu set, but now I don't think I will. The build feels quite weak. maybe if we get more images I might like it more. The other turn off for me are the minifigures, since they are reusing the s1 suits. I kinda expected that would be the case, but I was hopeing that maybe they actually would get new suits. But what I like about this set is the new Sora hair piece, but I won't get the set just for that, since the summer minifigures would also have hair. So with that the Arin's buggy would also have the s1 Arin, so that makes me less interested in that set as well. Quote
novareb Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Eh, I don't have either of them (every set I got from S1 ended up not having them, but I got every original ninja..?), so I'll most likely nab it. I liked the Riyu build from the brief look I saw, but it, like all things, can be modified. Quote
The_Fiery_Rooster Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 I'm also disappointed the outfits are the same. With how Ninjago loves giving the Ninja new suits with every wave, it just seems strange that they refuse to do the same with the main character of their new show. I guess it's intentional so that the characters remain easily identifiable, like lots of other cartoons do. The new hairpiece for Sora is great though. I don't think the build looks bad either, it's a nice posable cheap dragon build. The limbs look a little stubby, but I would want to see another pose before I judge. It also may be so that Riyu looks young, especially since he's still being called a baby. Quote

He looks OK, but squashed; some of that is due to the pose, but the model also seems built to fit Minifigs on it, so the top is not as angular as it should be. Also, his tail is completely wrong. 40 minutes ago, THELEGOBATMAN said: (weird that it's included in the March wave, but not the January one tho). I think that the ponytail part of her hair would have bumped against the back of her mech and kept it from closing all the way. Quote

We haven't seen how long the ponytail is, so we don't know if that's the case. I think it's because a lot of the new parts have been restricted to the march wave. The biggest example we have so far is the new wolf blade piece that we see in the 4+ set, while all the January sets use claws or the Pharma's Quest sword instead. They probably used the two waves to split the new parts budget, which means that there are certain parts that could only be used in the March wave and not the January wave, and I suspect Sora's hairpiece was reserved for the March wave. Lion King Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 The Riyu build is ugly. Not surprised that it’s not a molded dragon as Ninjago dragons tend to be buildable but I do wish it’s molded. I know buildable dragons have to be more probable than moved ones. I only have the molded baby Riyu. Quote
