McMarky Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 Hello guys, Do you like oldschool Lego Technic with a single motor and many functions? I hope you would like my excavator. It has only a single PF L motor and is fully functional. It can drive and dig. Enjoy the show 😀 Quote
2GodBDGlory Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 Wow, that's a seriously intense distribution gearbox! Nice job! Quote
Celeri Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 I know at least one youtuber that will be the happiest man in the world when he stumbles on your creation More seriously, this seems a great piece of both engineering and design, congratulations! Quote
MinusAndy Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 In an increasingly Bluetooth hub and many motors world this is most refreshing and also brilliant. Followed on t’flikr. Quote
gyenesvi Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 That looks amazigly playable! Very well engineered and great design as well! I like how it can rotate its understructure while keeping the upper part fixed. How did you synchronize the two movements so precisely? Quote
McMarky Posted October 14, 2023 Author Posted October 14, 2023 Thanks for your appreciation. 😀 1 hour ago, gyenesvi said: I like how it can rotate its understructure while keeping the upper part fixed. How did you synchronize the two movements so precisely? If I tell you I have calculated it, you won't believe it, will you? And you couldn't be more right. 😉 To be honest, I got it by trial and error. The initial design was very close, so I decided to try different tracks gearing. The result is perfect. I like it. Quote
trekman Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 This is so nice. It reminds move of the universal sets (8082) years ago when they used only one or two motors to do it all. Great playability. Quote
Lego Tom Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 If I count right - there's 16 universal joints? Holy cow! Regardless, it all works, and very well at that. Great build! Quote
Toastie Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 Wow!!! Technic at its absolute very best. One motor, about a thousand functions - and you have to manually pull and push levers in the right order and have to remember which one causes what motion. How cool is this!!! All the best, Thorsten Quote
TinkerBrick Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 Marvellous. This is a proper Technic set. Should be frontaged! Any chance for instructions? Quote
Jundis Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 This really is a beast full with technic! Wonderful work :-) Quote
BusterHaus Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 This is great, old school building. The speed of the functions is just right, quick but controllable. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 This is super cool! The picture with the technic functions is amazing! Very good job! Quote
McMarky Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 Many thanks for all your comments. They really please me. ☺️ On 10/15/2023 at 12:29 PM, Lego Tom said: If I count right - there's 16 universal joints? McMarky Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 When it comes to the instructions, I wonder if I can even claim the copyright for my design. I don't want to be blamed of plagiarism. My design is based on 42042 and 8043. It's a kind of mix of these two models. The udercarriege and superstructer is based on 42042 and the excavator arm is taken from 8043. BTW, I wonder if the authors of these models are on the Eurobricks forum and what would they say about my design? Quote
A_Dilophosaurus Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 i love excavators and this one is amazing! Quote
McMarky Posted October 31, 2023 Author Posted October 31, 2023 I played a while in Stud.io. There is the output. https://youtu.be/T6xrUm8E0gs?si=9hkE3seeXtpskmkh Quote
aeh5040 Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 (edited) This is a great build, congratulations! Very nice use of sliding levers for the gear box. The gearing actually looks remarkably neat and straightforward considering what it is doing! Regarding originality, in my view there is nothing remotely wrong with incorporating ideas from elsewhere.
