Not sure if I have time to familiarize myself with all the entries in such a short amount of time so I'd prefer at least two weeks of time for voting.

I agree.   This new method is nice, but if I interpret things correctly one needs to rate all entries, not just the top 6, so things take longer than usual.  Also, I noticed with such great entries (all contests, not just this last one) it really can come down to nuances as far as ratings go.  We don't want to encourage haphazard rating.

My vote is for two weeks as well, not one.

Quick question:
When is the official end date for voting? In the voting topic, it says Monday, Jan 29, but if we were doing a two-week voting period, as I believe @Jim said we would, that would work out to Friday, Jan 26 (if we're taking that strictly literally). It doesn't really matter; I'd just like to clarify!

Curious as to how the voting is so far, not in terms of result, purely number of voters and how that compares to normal

The first week resulted in 34 participants (in voting). That is a great number. Wonder how many we will have next week.

Current Top 5 9 (in points) :sweet:

384 points
371 points
343 points
325 points
319 points

Wowzer! Those totals are so close.

I like the new voting, but I miss the dopamine hit of watching another vote come in as voting is open.

Do bear in mind that there is only 1 point between #1 and #2 when it comes to voting. It's not 10, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1 anymore. It's 15, 14, 13.....etc

Yep! Tension is high!

Yeah it is :) Can't wait to see the top five.

And yeah, I thought 1 week would be enough. Most of the people who were really excited about the contest voted in the first 2-3 days.

Have all the people who submitted an entry voted? I think this should be a must as then everyone has at least one person where they only get 1 point from a voter. To make sure it’s balanced. As if the entry submitter never voted they could potentially never have only a single point from one voter.

Hope you understand what I’m getting at.

Really excited about this it certainly adds to the tension.

Maybe it should indeed be mandatory. Although that will probably result in some strange votes. So I’m not sure whether it will help.

Yeah, it is kind of annoying that one could gain an advantage by just not voting, but it is within the rules. I always vote because it's fun and feels like good sportsmanship, but I can see that it could be a good requirement to have in the rules.

In fact, at first I missed, that there is link to some external voting. I thought, that voting is not yet open, as topic was inactive. Maybe that sentence about external voting should have been somehow highlighted?

Sure, no problem!

The only way to avoid strategic voting is to prohibit participant voting. And that would kinda be against contest spirit.

With current rules a participant not voting is obviously a strategic choice and will annoy some but at least it makes a more impartial jury with neutral non-participant and the most fair-play minded participants. Not so bad because contests are for fun.

An alternative could be a neutral non-participant only jury for the official ranking and make participant voting mandatory for a "builders favorites" where the most competitive can vote honestly aside main competition.

Maybe it would be a solution, that every contestant has to give himself 15 points.

This way every contestant is forced to vote, and if every entry gets 15 points from its creator, these votes kind of cancel each other.
