Maybe it would be a solution, that every contestant has to give himself 15 points.

This way every contestant is forced to vote, and if every entry gets 15 points from its creator, these votes kind of cancel each other.

That sounds like a good solution. But is it better than 1 point?

The main problem with contestant voting is that they will put the other best entries at the bottom of the list. It won't be fair either way.

Exactly! 1 or 15 points makes no difference. They "cancel" each other just as well.

I am a participant and I voted and placed all of the entires in a very fair way, exactly as I would see them rank considering the aspects pointed.

Some people may do what you said, but I think you can easily tell which person does it. I think, if caught, they should be banned from the next 3 contests and cancel their entry in the current contest.

Of course, I don't think we have those kinds of people around here, but you never know. Maybe a point like I mentioned could be made in future contest to discourage such possible behavior.

Yes, it will only eliminate the opportunity of not voting in order to increase your own average.

Apart from that, it does not eliminate the possibility to vote unfair. We have to count on good sportsmanship for that. I don't know a good way to prevent this, apart from getting as many people to vote as possible, to get a good average...

I can’t stand tactical voting.

I’ve entered and voted.

When I voted I used my interpretation of your 4 criteria comparing the models against that and to each other based on that. I completely discounted my entry as a participant in my voting and automatically gave it the 1 point that was asked and never compared others to it to work out my order.

We could convert 1-15 to 0-14 on every vote and then force contestant vote on himself to 0.

If contestant voted more than 1 for himself, it will always be 0 and other contestants will be damaged in one point only at most.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about it. It seems that most of the time, at least, there is some degree of correlation between high quality builds and reputable forum members, so any cheating would likely come from people whose builds aren't likely to win either way.

That said, I like the idea of forcing contestants to vote for themselves at the top. That way, all contestant votes will still cancel out, but all contestants have incentive to vote, so there's not the situation where people don't vote to gain an advantage.

If it was a hard change to make, I wouldn't bother, since I'm not too worried about it, but because it's such a simple change I'd say we might as well next time.

I hope everybody did gave the best entries the lowest points. Then I will probably win :pir-huzzah2:

As what @Seasider is telling:

I also entered and voted.

In my opinion, the voting for the own entry should not be restricted in any way. If you really think your entry is the best, give it 15 points. When you think it is 4th place acording to the rating criterias, place it on rank 4. I like the sportsmanship approach.  I kinda felt sad to place mine on the last rank, because I would not have placed it there if it was from a different person. (which is of course arguable, if it really belongs there )

No offense but maybe claiming total fairness as participant is a bit ostentatious.

Strategic voting is not great, sure, but I respect that people enjoy the thrill of a contest different ways. As long as rules are followed we should let people play as they like.

There is no need for shaming, drama or controversies, it spoils the fun of this contest. Which-hunting is no more fun than strategic voting itself...

Maybe the voting period is just too long...  kids are getting nervous!

Hehe. And you make a fair point.

I will be away for a week on Tuesday so maybe I will close the voting tomorrow. I will discuss this with Milan.

if you still want to vote, make sure to do that today.

So does that mean we’ll get the results before Tuesday or will we all be on tender hooks for another week?

Not sure, because we need to do some checking and verifications.

Just voted.

Incredible contest, very good entries, and no cars, very refreshing!

Voting system is very nice but it is more difficult to have to vote for all entries... Imagine a contest with 100 entries! It should be possible to vote only for the top N.

Hoping that today is THE DAY :)

Yes, we are closing the voting today!
41 votes, and it was VERY tight. For some time, it was a tie.

Exciting! When can we expect to see results?

We are validating all the votes and preparing the results topic. Most likely in the next several hours.

Nice! Thanks for putting in the work to get it done sooner rather than later
