Ahoy me mates, captains, swashbucklers and pirate ladies!

(This is a rhyme and that parrot has rabies.)

Come closer, take a seat, and let me ask you a question.

Which one is your favorite Lego Pirates faction?

Is it red or blue or none of that?

Feel free to express yourself in the chat!

With chat i mean comments and now cast your vote!

Oh, Lego, do you hear us? We need a yellowcoat!

Nice picture! Did You do it all by Yourself? Looks very atmospheric :)

So who are those "other' BTW? Maybe it's because i'm sick, or maybe i've depleted all my Lego knowledge during the last Contest, but nothing comes to my mind. Or are You reffering to factions from POTC? Or maybe some minifigs count as merchants? ( like those in the Imperial Trading Post )

PS. Since You've mentioned Yellowcoats, and we've seen few attempts by fans to introduce other xxx-coats into the Lego Pirates world, maybe this could be a good idea for Your next poll? To ask folks what color would they prefer for new army factions, should they be green, or orange, or purple... etc.

"Other" means civilians, merchants or like you said, POTC factions, or anything that might not fit into the other categories. Or maybe people have created their own factions. If so, please let us know! I voted "other" because personally i am most interested in civilians (although i understand civilians could also be part of the bluecoats for example).

Haha yeah, i slapped that together in Photoshop. The background is a historic map of Port Royal.

So POTC does count :) still, i'm not sure about those civilians when it comes to official Lego sets from the regular line. Were any minifigs oficialy marked as civilians/merchants/some-sort-of-neutrals? Or are there any minifigs from that era widely considered as "neutrals" by the fandom?

I mean, every fan probably had/has his/her own approach. I would constantly turn some soldiers into pirates, some pirates into soldiers, make new factions out of both, or mix them with other Lego series... still, this was me. But fandom tends to turn certain anonymous toys into almost quasi-oficial characters with full bio, so i wonder if that's the case with some of those neutraly looking figs... :)

I guess the possibilities are endless... zombie pirates and such :jollyroger: I don't know/remember if any of the minfigs from official sets were marked as civilian or neutral. I don't even remember how i treated them as a kid. And due to my very long and very dark ages i am not the most knowledgeable anyways :pir_laugh2: I guess as a child i was more into pirates versus imperials. Nowadays i have more interest in the life of the ordinary civilians. Of course if i were to build a fortress in the future there need to be some sort of soldiers. Bluecoats i guess, because they are PAB. Or maybe i'll find a good torso. I tried the green torso from the Boutique Hotel employees for greencoats but was not happy with the result.

Would a bi-weekly poll be every other week, or twice a week? :pir-triumph:

I will (unsurprisingly) declare my love for the Islanders. There was never anything else quite like them.

It's interesting to see that so many people like the Imperials most (me included), when I was a kid I remember it being 50:50 between imperials and pirates. But that's only my friends back then, me and two of my friends preferred the imperials while three others preferred the pirates. We used to arrange huge sea battles in the hallway in my house or in my neighbor's basement and it was an impressive sight when all brought their sets with them. I miss those days.

I would like to suggest one more (sub)faction - Revolutionary soldiers

Four times in two months :pir_laugh2:

I would have voted for Islanders but i fear Lego would make them yellow again. If it is possible to have indigenous warriors like the Hovitos warrior from Indiana Jones, Islanders should also be possible in a sensible way.

Wow, that must have been epic! I don't remember anyone bringing a Lego ship or set to a friend's house. Probably our parents were afraid of mixing parts :pir_laugh2:

I'm sorry, it's too late to add more options to the poll, but maybe in the future we can have a poll about subfactions like the one you mentioned. Or maybe factions that people would like to see released under the umbrella of Lego Pirates. For now Revolutionary soldiers have to be sorted under "other".

We all lived quite close to each other and it was me and my neighbor who provided most sets. When I was 14 a local toy store asked me to to build a pirate and trains display in their display window. Then we filled up my dad's VW Golf station wagon with a lot of sets, baseplates and pieces and drove there and then I assembled it in their display window. It was a pirates vs. imperials battle with a lot of ships and fortresses with a 4564 Freight Rail Runner circling around the battle in an oval track layout. During the month it was there they sold a lot of Lego sets, more than they ever had sold before during a single month because all the kids saw the ships and the trains and wanted their parents to buy them something similar. The owner was very happy and gave me several free sets.

What a great story! I guess it was one of these display windows where kids would press their nose against the window to get a better view of what's going on inside :pir_laugh2: And a Lego train makes everything even better!

Bluecoats or Redcoats? :) Which ones are You refering too? or both perhaps? :)

I've never played nor had any red ones when i was a kid, i dreamed about them when i swam in those catalogues, but i think my time of collecting legos was already over at the moment they were coming in. But i got myself first few reds when i turned 30, and i did that especially because of this Forum, as i needed some new "characters" for my lego comics during the legendary Redcoats vs Bluecoats contest ;)

And me and my friends used to bring bags full of our toys to each other homes too!. With every kind of toys, not only Legos, but also Gijoes, He-Men, toy cars, depending on what was the fashion at a time, or which franchise did we want to play with, often mixing all... I miss those times too. Tho probably a lot of elements got lost this way, my parents even used to lend my Legos to neighbours' kids when they were sick and i wasn't home, cause hardly anyone could afford those bricks and for a while i was the "rich kid", and i'm pretty sure some stuff didn't return to me...

Oh, You should try santas from minipacks :) i made few soldiers by using them couple of years ago, soldiers or militias, can't be sure, but i always had this urge to make irregular troopers, by making "uniformed" units from nonarmy figures, like whenever i had few bandanas, torsos and legs in a certain chosen color that would be my way to raise my forces in numbers ;)

I was thinking of both since they are so similar in both name (Imperial Soldiers and Imperial Guards) and appearance and were displayed together in the catalogs as one faction. Another toy that almost all kids in my neighborhood used to play with was Action Man and those we also used to bring to each other's houses and also play with outside. In the summer we used to bring large blankets outside and build and play with Lego on the lawn. Then it was very easy to fold the blanket and bring the bricks back inside.

Are there any other Revolutionary Soldiers sets than the single collectible minifigure? I think that more sets are required before it can be counted as a subtheme. Such a theme or subtheme would be very cool and I hope more sets will be released someday because they are from the same era as all the Lego Pirates factions and would be an excellent addition.

I voted Pirates, but it's honestly a draw for me between pirates and Imperials (blue and red). A PIRATE SHIP is just plain special, and more iconic looking than the Imperial ships are IMO. Even the LEGENDARY Imperial Flagship doesn't look as good as the Barracuda Bay ship IMO, it's just SO PRETTY. Having said that, I give the edge in land forts and minifigs to the Imperials. The new Eldorado Fortress is a thing of BEAUTY. Plus you CAN have "enough" pirate minifigs, but you can't say the same Imperial minifigs. I can have a thousand if them, lol.

I can be very picky :pir-grin: when it comes to minifigs, so for example the nutcracker's torso from the 71034 CMF is a tad to simple for my liking :pir_laugh2: I prefer Minifigs in the style and quality of POTC or LOTR. On the other hand i am too lazy to sign up at bricklink but i guess have to do it eventually. My biggest hope is that more of the Rivendell torsos will show up at PAB, but most likely it is one of those mysterious cases where only one torso shows up (Pippin's). But, yeah, it's great fun to put those little torsos and legs, heads and hats together and create new characters!

What!

Bricklink is the place to go, you can create a wanted list of all the parts you want and find every set/part there ever was, you really got to sign up!

I wanted to vote pirates, but had to vote for bluecoats, as the two are vital together, and I suspected that they needed more support!

I would never pay more than 5€ for a minifg because no minifig is worth more than this. Maybe in a weak moment i'd pay 5,50€, but that's it :pir_laugh2: I also don't want to support scalpers and resellers by principle. On the other hand i know Lego will never (again) make the sets i want, 15€-100€ POTC and LOTR sets (to part them out and for the minifigs). As i have said before, my dark ages were very dark and very long and really the only thing i am a little bit sad about, is that i missed the POTC sets.

I would not say that all sellers are like this, you can source the parts to a minifigure for 3-4€ from a reasonably priced seller, but your right about one thing there are sellers on there that are out of there mind I see figures for 20-30€ that you can find for 5€!

i'll check it out :) i definitely did use LOTR figs for army building too, they were sorta backward because of their equipment of course, still turned up nicely... i don't think i'e used any "normal" skin elements tho, i don't like to mix them with traditional yellow-skins, but i'm not banning mixing both either ;) but they simply don't look well together on a single person

I really like the Hobbit torsos from the Rivendell set. They make formidable civilians of the pirates era. Figures of this quality i'd like to see in future pirates sets. Though my only hope is a new POTC movie before the year 2030 :pir_laugh2: Pippin's torso (the one with the scarf) was up at PAB and i ordered two.

this madness is ruining a lot of other hobbies right now tho, it's not just that scalpers do that to toys, but same for most products i'm interested in, it applies even history books and all other sorts of products no one would consider to be objects of speculation, and this was never the case before... tho i don't even think it's speculation anymore, if someone puts up a new product for double the regular prize or more, especialy that some of these are easily available with large discounts, then they are either targeting some casual buyers, who don't know the prizes and so they might just grab it without knowing there are being scammed, or it's moneylaundering

oh yeah, they look usable :) well, the only i would have doubts is the old guy, cause his pink neck would clash with yellowfigures ;) I got mine from the fight with a Cave Troll set, in that dwarf mine that got run over

I can really recommend Bricklink to you. Most sellers are very honest (I've been using Bricklink since 2002 and and have never been scammed, only once I got some fake bricks and that was only some minor pieces and maybe every tenth order the odd missing piece and then the seller always ships the piece afterwards and I order 20+ times/year) and the minifigs are not that expensive. I mostly buy 80s and 90s minifigs like Imperial Soldiers and I always manage to find ones that are in good condition for under 5 dollars so I guess you'll be able to find newer flesh colored figs for a reasonable price. Many sellers with a lot of inventory are located in Germany and most do cheaper domestic shipping so you'll get even lower prices than I get.
