Meaf Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Wow Fives looks awesome, definitely going to be getting him at some point (probably will just end up buying the set as long as it looks good since I'm always down for more Star Wars playsets). Quote

The last figure he has was a lot better if I remember right. the clone looks good, I’m not one to get my knickers in a twist about cloths and helmet holes and dual moulding and all that so for both figures probably in the minority but oh well. I was going to buy the tantive 4 hallway even without the extra figure so it’s a bonus Quote

Puresh's betrayal is what started this trend, I believe. But yup, I am now officially Malak-free. If you disagree with a take on LSW, that's par for the course, everyone's opinion is gonna be different but it's not an attack on you if someone else's opinion is different from yours. Also looking through a lot of the comments most people seem to agree that the kamas and the holes mold r issues but are not worth complaining over because (and I'm paraphrasing here) "its good enough" or "don't whine its more clones than before". While I disagree with the way MandR does things, I do think fans should be able to critique and point out issues with Lego that will hopefully urge TLG to make better products in the future because since it's a very expensive product "good enough" shouldn't be the bar. I don't think it's a crazy take that TLG should build on the success of the past to make new sets better. This is a very mature and reasonable take, and I respect it. My issue with people like MandR is that 1): they don't handle their critiques in a mature and reasonable way, and I believe they need to do so MORE than random internet posters like us because they have thousands of kids following them, and 2): it's hypocritical. They'll scream into the heavens and throw hyperbole up the wall about how anti-prequel lego is or how terrible the clones are, and then the bulk-buy the sets they complain about so much. If the grey baseplate personalities articulated their critiques like you did here, and then either didn't buy the set, or bought one copy for review, I'd respect it. As-is, even putting aside my dislike for the practice of buying so many copies early enough on that it effects other people's ability to obtain them, buying as many copies as they do after complaining as much as they do shows they're either putting on an act with their negativity (which is most likely the case) or they can't stop themselves from buying large numbers of sets they genuinely believe aren't worth it. 7 hours ago, Ellisss_2 said: Malak looks great, will definitely Bricklink him separately. Pleased to see no anniversary prints on the minifigures too. I'm planning on this too- I hope he doesn't cost too much, but I think it's gonna be awhile before we see a reasonable price on him. KOTOR figure, in a $100 set, and the only figure in said set besides R2- I could see this guy going for $30. 7 hours ago, ArrowBricks said: But, personally, I refuse to spend money on sets I feel would have been better if they were released 10 years earlier. And I totally respect this practice. If you think the figures are as much of a quality drop as you say, not purchasing the sets with them is a great way to let lego know, and it's not hypocritical like many of these youtube grey baseplate folks. 2 hours ago, Pedilego said: Lastly, unfortunately, I have a potential gripe: Why is the pauldron flat? I'm hoping it's not more regression & it's not the final look (e.g. missed neck holes, it sits differently with a neck bracket, the photographer used a CAC cloth, etc.). I will say, lego's really never gotten cloth pauldrons right. They sit too low on the arm/droop too much, or it's like this where it's completely flat with nothing on the sides. That's not an excuse for this one- personally I'm going to put a neck bracket on each side for a few days to try and get it creased right- but I'm not sure it would be more accurate if it was like Rex's pauldron. The plastic pauldron is by far the best in terms of overall shaping, but it adds too much height to the figure. It's definitely a compromise, but as a fan of cloth elements in general, I'm OK with how they tend to do them. The best way here would clearly have been a folded cloth with 3 neck holes, though. 14 minutes ago, Llewop said: Am I the only one who thinks Mallak looks a bit silly? the accessory under his head just make the figure look goofy to me. He has a different breathing device type thing that looks more like vader's and less like a large jaw. (Though given they made two white skinned characters with very similar names and prosthetic jaw areas, I totally understand the confusion. I thought they were the same guy until my late teens.) 7 minutes ago, Kaijumeister said: That’s true, I guess I feel worried because beyond Tech, none of the Bad Batch got backpacks. Yeah hunter's (and the post action battle hoth rebels) I do take more of an issue with- it's pretty lethargic to not to put the backpack on when they're in a set where the backpack wouldn't hinder function- but I still believe fives will have one. He's not sitting in a small space like Hunter or Echo, he's not part of the action battle gimmick, and he's not meant to sit on the seat element like the snowtroopers. This is the first time he's being produced. I really do think lego will give him one, but if they don't, I will have a larger issue with it than the other figures, since there's no reason to leave it out. Quote
ToaDraco Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 (edited) New pictures of Fives makes him look much better but the cloth piece on the shoulders just isn't working unfortunately(assuming that's actually a cloth piece he comes with and not something the person just threw on there). Dual-molding is par for the course, though we are seeing that they're doing a fair bit of detail on these anniversary figs (Malak's new jaw mold, Five's arm printing). Based on these two, I wouldn't be surprised if we got a printed poncho (and maybe even arm printing or a new mold for his hilt) for Cal, a new Lola mold for young leia, etc. 32 minutes ago, ToaDraco said: New pictures of Fives makes him look much better but the cloth piece on the shoulders just isn't working unfortunately(assuming that's actually a cloth piece he comes with and not something the person just threw on there). I'm currently using Reaper from Overwatch's head for him, but it really doesn't work. It gets the general vibe across, but it's not a T-visor. My Jedi Knight revan is even worse- just a blank flat silver head. 1 hour ago, Minishark2000 said: And it'll only make Revan's price rise even more, now that people who get Malak will now also want Revan to complete their duo Yup. I really hope they manage to sneak revan's helmet into something as a head print, at least- maybe if we ever got a small playset for the duel on Dryden's yacht, Luthen's museum, or Doc Ondar's, but none of those are likely. 26 minutes ago, hikouki said: I gave up many years ago and just bought myself a custom made Revan. LOL (Is there another version of Revan that Lego could possibly make?) Sort of. Most of the official material displayed him in his Darth Revan outfit, even if with a different colored saber, but there are some other outfits that have gained some fame recently. You can change your appearance in the KOTOR game, and the mobile Game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes used that outfit for their Jedi Knight Revan character, and their version has since gone on to get action figures and a funko pop. If lego wants to do an anniversary Revan, it'll most likely be that. (And on the bright side, he has the same helmet under the hood, so the head print would work for sith revan, meaning you'd just need a chestplate with black arms, legs, and hood/cape for his sith version.) There's also been a lot of speculation about Revan Reborn coming to said mobile game. Revan Reborn (which generally is just revan after his jedi and sith arcs, when he's fighting the eternal emperor and afterwards) doesn't have a set visual appearance, though given his sith robes are black and jedi robes are white, I'd guess we'll see brown or gray robes with both his red and purple sabers. I would say lego won't do this, as there's not yet any visual appearance, but I would also have said they won't do white Vader from an old infinities comic, or a gungan wearing blue, so... Speaking of the gungan wearing blue, who does everyone think he's meant to be? I'm really scratching my head, as every other character is a good/evil version of an existing one, and one would assume darth jar jar would wear black robes. I can only think of two things, and neither are very likely. 1: Jar Jar's father George R Binks wears a navy blue sailor outfit in an infinities story, but given he tries to shoot himself over having a son like jar jar, I doubt lego would do it even in a wave already incorporating infinities characters. 2: Marvel's watchers-characters who can see other realities/dimensions, and one of whom is a major character in the what if animated series- have blue robes... My guess is that the Dark Falcon is based off an upcoming Lego Disney Plus special. So yeah I think you could be right there. Kit Figsto Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 I'm also wondering if the evil C-3PO and evil Chewbacca are indeed those characters or if it's 0-0-0 and Krrsantan. I'm betting it's the former, but at the very least, they should be pretty similar (the only real differences in the protocol droids would be whether or not he has red eyes, and with Krrsantan, I think it'd be passable enough) to the other characters to where the figures would probably work for either. The biggest thing that's making me wonder which route they go is that it comes with both Rey and Vader. Obviously there's no continuity to worry about in the first place, but that means they're not just doing a TRoS version where they flip the good guys and bad guys around or something. Quote
Agent Kallus Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 (edited) Force ghost Jar-Jar? Anyway, I decided to Google a list of noteworthy Gungans to see if it could help us unravel this mystery. Unfortunately no-,one seems to have made a visual guide of all major Gungans and Thier different outfits. I did find a non-exhaustive list of major canon Gungans ( No legends list though? I probably didn't search deep enough) so I've copied it below with my comments on thier blueness. Jar-Jar Binks ( appears as a blue hologram, but doesn't really have any blue outfits), Thaddeus Wolk( I've read the book he's from don't remember any blue on him), Roos Tarpals (no blue), Boss Nass( No blue), Boss Lyonie (no blue), Peppi Bow(no blue in her default look), Rish Loo (Blueish skin tone)... No sure of her name but the Gungan mother from when Cad Bane was Kidnapping force sensitive infants fir Palps wore Blue. Seeing as this has yielded little to no useful information, I'm going to say it's a new version/new character. That or someone quite obscure. Edited January 15, 2024 by Agent Kallus Quote

It reminds me of the magistrate from the ninth jedi- someone who manipulates the situation and is twelve steps ahead, but has heroic intentions. Do you think there is any chance we might get bd1. I know there is the buildable bd already but it’s only one piece surely they could include that? Quote
