Not really interested in the barge - it takes up a massive footprint and at the end of the day it's just a long, brown boat. Also it's missing some important minifigs while including someone like Bib Fortuna who wasn't even on the sail barge and that possessed Salacious Crumb looks like nightmare fuel.

I also have the last playset iteration which was a really good build with great minifigs so not much incentive to splash out hundreds on a giant version.

Sail barge looks nice. Leia has shorts because it's an easy way to skirt (haha) the controversy and it avoids flesh poking through when you turn her legs. $500 seems like a lot, it needed an MBS level of figures.

Honestly, and the barge isn't really part of this, I feel burnt out. Can we get some cheap sets that aren't gimmicks again? Every time I think about this theme I come back to the fact that there's a $45 Jedi Starfighter coming in January and it's the cheapest non-4+ set of the HY to our knowledge.

The Barge reminds me very how much how I felt about Betrayal At Cloud City when it was revealed. I absolutely adored that set just like how I absolutely adore this set and then I go online and seeing everybody rip it apart feels very much like being hit by whiplash. Idk I like all the new guards, Leia having more of a skirt is no problem to me and seems like such a minor nitpick to complain about when there was a point where we thought we would never get her again. Max Reebo is back and better than ever. The interior is perfect and more than what I could ask for: full fledged kitchen, Reebo’s little room, the stairs that lead up to the deck, a prison, and a place to pilot it. Exterior is just glorious and looks big. Idk as someone who’s favorite vehicle is the Barge, blew my expectations away ngl, seeing this made my day. Instabuy.

RODDY, I think it is a nice set.

Not quite 100% minifig scale, but a nice display piece.

A 100% minifig scale, wouldn't that cost atleast x2, or maybe even x3 of this set?

For me the set works very well 😊. The build itself, the rooms and the details are great. I only have the two Droids and the other figures I don't have, which also helps alot. Leia is fine for me with great hair and I can also live with the skirt. The price is of course not great but in the end I can still decide if I want to buy this or not.

Roddy, you are not alone! The moment I saw the Haslab Prototype in 2018, I hoped for a UCS/MBS implementation. I really like/love what I‘m seeing.

Still, I have some gripes, mainly in the fig department, with Bib being a red card worthy foul. Price is also to mention.
I was also hoping for some details in the main room with Jabba: A rancor statue or the wall mural. Hopefully these will show up today.

But I‘m with you: Will show up on day 1 👍

PS: Not buying the MBS Cloud City was my worst decision. Every May 4th event I hope Lego spills out a few if these, like they did with the UCS Snowspeeder 😂

I think it is even slightly bigger than minifig scale. According to an older Brickset article, the length for minifig scale is roughly 72cm. This set is 77cm long , according to leaks

Why???

Ask Lego and Disney. Its this stupid woke and politically correct mindset that did not existed in the past.
Some years ago there was a Hasbro campaign for a 6" rancor and they did not include Oola in the offer, nor in the stretch goals -> and it was the first SW haslab project to fail (Reevas lightsaber was the next one to fail). Slave Leia (not to mention they are afraid of the name so it has to be changed to huttslayer) is also a banned figure across all producers

I dont buy this bending of legs excuse. 500eur (or is it 550) is a lot for a set with too many fails and imperfections and yes, it needed MBS level count of figs - the display of the figs outside is plain stupid. Figures shoul populate the scene and the whole vehicle belongs to a MOC brickbuilt environment.

Yes, it starts to be sad they are pricing out kids out of the theme while doing lame and lazy job for the wealthy adults. Also every time they are presenting such set it laughable - because you see a flat with only that particular set on display - they are completely out of touch with the avg collector and how his display looks like.

A SW CMF is long overdue - too many characters we dont have from the OT/PT movies while they are also far behind with the TV shows figures. I have cubic meters of bricks already, so im looking at each set just for the figs as im not  child and am not impressed with the system scale vehicles - i need minifig scale or something close to it, any bigger ship is a pile of bricks for me.
Also why SW does not have a polybag set wit a small build with minifigure ? Im not talking about the advent calendar level slightly bigger microbuilds.

Sigh…https://www.jeditemplearchives.com/2023-07-22-hasbro-makes-an-official-statement-about-slave-leia/

There was/is no ban on Slave Leia figures. Truth is: The Black Series one sold like 2 month overdue milk. I saved mine from being crushed by all the dust she has had been collecting. Paid 5€ at my local Toys r us.

And I remember the #nooolanomoola. But the whole campaign was lazy with some cardboard stretchgoals, iirc.

Yeah, looking back (only 5-6 years ago) at some of the sets coming out, you had things like Duel on Naboo, Duel on Mustafar, Yoda’s hut, the Hoth Medical Bay, the Ach To set, the landspeeders from the Solo film, I think you even had a small Mos Eisley Cantina set - there was a really nice range of < $50 sets.

One could argue that it's wokeness/political correctness that made Lego go with dual-molded legs giving Leia a pair of shorts. One could also argue that Lego is catering to a more conservative audience by covering up Leia's legs. We don't know which one it is so let's stop discussing it. Anytime we try to analyze whether a decision is too woke or not woke enough it leads to getting off topic and more political than a Lego forum needs to be. Lego (and Disney) have added that discussion to their products so the conversation itself is not banned. But unless we have a statement from Lego saying why they went with dual-molded shorts for Leia we need to not discuss it here.

Keep in mind that there is no such thing as perfect minifig scale. At 77cm for a 30m long in universe ship this puts the set at ~1/38, firmly in the minifig scale range. For reference, the UCS AT-AT is about 1/36

I've seen a couple comments on other sites that C-3PO doesn't have a silver leg in RotJ and that's why he doesn't have the dual-molded one here. I want to dispel that before other people see it and use it as another flawed dismissal of legitimate criticism:

He absolutely does have the silver leg in RotJ. The bright lighting for the Tatooine scenes makes it harder to see but it is definitely there in some shots, and if you want a really good look at it just check the scenes in the ewok village.

Also if it was true then the figure would still be inaccurate as they still gave him the silver print anyway so either way it wouldn't be a good defence.

Do you have any of the older figures? It looks pretty bad when you move the legs and see the light nougat in between from the front, and the lack of anything on the back aside from the red waist is abysmal. The dual mould may have red on the sides where it isn't in the actual costume, but it gives it a cleaner look imo, so overall I reckon the addition of the dual moulded legs is a definite improvement. However, I do understand why the arguable inaccuracy of it may be a downgrade for some people.

" And brand manager Patrick gave a very clear answer: there is no ban on her and they could make her if they want to. "

If you really believe what Patrick (a corporate goon) says then i have a bridge to sell to you

Why dont we have a slave Leia for 40anyversary of ROTJ with pinless joints ? or even a swapable legs like they did for the 3.75" version which i regret not to purchase along with the 3.75" Rancor with Oola for like 80eur.

5eur ? Did you bought like 10 of them ? Its selling for 60-70 usd, selling even opened.

Yes the campaign was lazy but an Oola would 100% cause it to be successful - i would back it myself. I have watched the counts to the last minute and it was a very close one - an Oola would tip the scale with no problems.

Yes, im collecting SW lego since 1999 (though i have not all the sets, i was a student with limited income, i have more sets as i started to work)
You can put the leg back like 20degree and is still not noticeable, 45degree is already noticeable. But how many times do you need to bend this figure legs to the back ?? Usually its on display with straight legs or better sitting or lie next to Jabba.

Actually the issue you mention is true for any figure with leg prints and they dont care in other cases. Many of the SW troopers and figures looks totaly stupid when looking at from a slight angle - Lando in the skiff was more acurate with plain TAN legs then with the just front printed new version (yes they are able to do side print on legs if they want to), Scout troopers would benefit from a black legs with white boots + some printing on it - they do it constantly for the CMF (check the great M-tron figure leg print) - yet they refuse to use printed doublemolds in SW theme to cheapen out on the customers

i have a couple of light nougat legs somewhere (970c90pb05)  so i could try to make a custom cloth piece to go with the legs

Can anyone see in the photos if there's a rope for Luke and Leia to swing onto the skiff? One of the most iconic parts of the scene imo

You can use Leia's chain instead

You will take your buildable Mandalorian’s™️ Right Pauldron™️ and you will like it.

Agree though. Outside of the Eta-2 and ARC-170 my interest in this theme is essentially going into hibernation until next summer.

As for the Sail Barge, it honestly looks like a perfect model to me but I’ve never been a massive fan of the vehicle itself. As a setpiece and scene within RotJ though, I’ve always loved it. Personally, I would’ve preferred this to be one of the flagship summer sets just to pair it with the Desert Skiff to make for a nice display without taking up too much space, but the build looks great.

Minifigures-wise, the ones we are getting look awesome although I’m not a fan of Bib reusing his inaccurate TBoBF piece, however I feel like we should’ve gotten far more figures with a set this expensive. I still think the LSW team really fumbled the ball by not including at least one generic alien with the Desert Skiff set as it is.

In the set, he has the silver front print - its not plain. In the movie still on the sand scenes, the leg seems to have a different color than the rest of his body.

There are multiple problems with the scaling:

- the minifig is too wide compared to its height - this is difficult when making correrct scale speeders with 2 minifig sitting next to eachother

- the sets for bigger vehicles in SW were not created in the proper scaling in mind, making them appear bigger from the inside as they actually are from the inside
- for the barge its clear from the movie and its backed by the crossection that there should be a 2nd floor room at the back - this was omitted due to the scaling - possible because the inspiration was in Hasbro haslab barge where it was not possible to have for 3.75" figures - ill see when i try to build my own barge

To me, the scoreboard looks like this:

Upgrades:

  • Leia (better hairpiece and dual-moulded legs)
  • R2
  • Kithaba

Entirely new:

  • Wooof
  • Wizam

The same/very similar:

  • Gamorrean
  • 3PO
  • Max Rebo
  • Jabba

Downgrades:

  • Salacious B. Crumb (I usually like the coloured eyes, but they look too creepy here)
  • Bib Fortuna. The new prints are awesome, but the headpiece doesn‘t work.

All in all, I don‘t think we can complain too much  Especially since UCS sets rarely have more than two figures.

Yeah think I agree with this, though I'd say C-3PO is a downgrade since other UCS sets (landspeeder and statue) have him with the grey leg (though tbh I'm not a fan of that either as it should've been made in silver not grey).

I've definitely come around a bit on Leia's legs but still not a huge fan. To me the best strategy would've been to print a vertical line of skin on the sides of the legs to make them a bit more accurate.

Also good news: high quality images are now up on the LEGO site and while there's still no transparent frog there is an olive green one!

Also with the clearer official pictures we can see that Jabba's tattoo is there as expected.

The Rebel vs Imperial double battle pack is on there too at £35. Not a bad price tbh. Rebel Friend and a Shadow Stormtrooper should've been there but it's not completely unreasonable (still probably going to wait for double points and a GWP, or a discount of some sort).

“A blessing from the lord”

My prayers have literally been answered!!!!

Pretty sure that this set’s not going to be around for long so I’m going to get it before it inevitably goes out of stock. (Looks like I’ve got some midnight shopping to do)
