We've been getting fewer and fewer mid-sized sets/location-based sets in the last few years. I recognize that part of this is due to higher prices, but it seems like now, there's a bunch of stuff in the $15-30 range, a couple of system sets in the $40-60 range, and then a bunch of stuff that's $90+. This is further exacerbated by the fact that basically everything in the $15-30 block right now is either a mech/Brickhead/micofighter (which I have no issue with, they serve their purpose and must be popular with kids if they keep making them), or is a Mando/Clone Wars set. The cheapest OT set on shelves is $40 (Rebel Scout Speeder/Imperial Dropship combo pack), the cheapest non-Clone prequel set is $70 (Sith Infiltrator), and the cheapest sequel set is...uh...nowhere to be found. I'd almost rather if they gave us some smaller vehicles/locations from the OT/non-Clone prequels/sequels, and then dedicated the larger price points ($60 and upward) to Clone stuff. Like, throw us an Endor BP, a First Order BP, a remake of the AOTC speeder chase for $50-60, and then, I don't know, a new Cloud Car or Snowspeeder or something for $40. I think truly, the line is just hurting from the shrinking number of total playsets in a year. We used to have about 2-3 full waves of sets in a year and now it’s down to one. The distribution didn’t matter as much when we had more sets, and people were less likely to despair after one set got leaked (it still happened occasionally though lol). I think that 3 waves would be too much in a year without a new film, but the winter wave being almost nonexistent puts way too much pressure on people’s expectations of the summer, to the point where if it isn’t perfect to what you personally want, it feels like the theme is done forever. The skirt piece might be better, but it still doesn't address the biggest issue with the Royal Guards, which is that their robes are supposed to conceal their arms. Even though the skirt piece is probably closer to a literal representation of the uniform, I'm not sure it conveys the overall impression as well. It would make them look like the Praetorians. I can't see LEGO doing it, but the better solution IMO would be to give them either a new headpiece that extends down over the torso and legs (like the old ghost minifigures) or a bespoke cape piece that wraps around the body more than the current ones do. I think you're spot on. I have no issue with the increased number of 18+ sets and stuff geared towards kids (mechs/microfighters), I think the problem is that a larger and larger percentage of the line is devoted to these than playsets. If the 18+ stuff sells well enough to warrant more of it, I'd like to know why the playsets are being scaled back. Anecdotally, they seem to sell well, save for a few exceptions. Around me, pretty much all of the Star Wars sets, once they first comes out, are constantly in and out of stock for the first couple of months that they're around, even some of the stuff that aren't army builders. Like, the Dark Falcon and the Skeleton Crew ship aren't exactly shelf-warming around me, even though they're both large and expensive, and a bit more niche in their appeal. I guess I just don't see why we can't get even 3-4 more playsets per year than what we've been getting. Like I said, it doesn't have to come at the expensive of the 18+ or the kid-centric stuff - both clearly sell well if they're expanding the line, but it'd be great to not contract the playset portion of the line as a result. Of all the 18+ sets we know of in 2025, only the midi-scale acclimator can be called a “clone” set. In fact, in the adult market there’s a very nice distribution of PT and OT sets, with a sequel helmet sprinkled in. Kids are getting a deluge of clone sets because collecting armies and army vehicles is the current fad. Jango’s Slave One is Technically a Clone Set (it has Boba) Quote

While it seems ROTS will have the most representation for an anniversary of any recent film anniversary, the sets are all just "ways to get clones" rather than great representations of the film itself. (I'm also salty that my prediction of the May 2025 UCS being Anakin's ETA-2 never came to pass) I'm sure many of them do like ROTS, but yes, I can imagine the firestorm that would occur if the august wave wasn't full of clone sets and was instead something like a senate duel and/or mustafar set. I mean we already had complaints when we only knew about the ARC-170 in terms of 2025 ROTS sets. 1 hour ago, Meaf said: I can't see us getting much for the R1 anniversary with how little we seem to be getting for TFA next year, although I suppose there's still a few 2025 says we don't know about. icm Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Oh, that's disappointing. The GWP battle droid carrier has ten droids, I was hoping for a lot more in the MTT. Sounds like it'll be more like the 2014 version with just nine droids than the 2007 version with twenty, but I guess that's consistent with the 2023 Gunship being so much smaller than the 2013 Gunship :( Quote
