Lego avoids named imperial officers at all costs.  Outside of Veers, we have a Yularen gwp from almost ten years ago, and then Piett and Tarkin who have only been in expensive UCS sets in the last almost 15 years.  (And then the 2006 tarkin).

Well, we did get Sloane last year, but I agree with your point.

I think I'll stick with my 2014 version of the ISD - the only things I like about the new one is the Anniversary figure and the Star Destroyer hologram. The 2014 had a similar nice hologram, an Emperor hologram figure and superior figures like the best Stormtroopers Lego has ever made and an officer with magnificent 70s mutton chops.

It would also be crazy if you could display the Star Destroyer playset with a Midi-Scale Tantive IV and have it be in scale (kind of)

The two are wildly out of scale, refer to the UCS set for a better idea. As to the studs of the boarding hallway, that’s just Lego design language. People are expecting too much out of the hallway set.

I was commenting without knowing the set was released till I saw Ash posted the video.

Incredibly disappointed with the set. LEGO leakers completely ruined this entire year for me. Got my hopes up with Panaka and then Koska and then a Death Star playset with 10 million minifigures and now we got some ugly Star Destroyer that costs more than the last one, but is way smaller with family guy stormtrooper, Cal without poncho and BD-1, 3 other worthless figures and Praji who is cool, but not paying $160 to get him.

The exterior of the ISD looks good, but the interior is very cramped and disappointing (though the holo-table is clever); the proportions are also somewhat off, making it look almost midi-scale.
As for the Minifigs, I like that we get Praji (albeit without a proper head) and Cal, new generic heads for Imperial crew and Navy Troopers, and an updated grey crew jumpsuit that matches the newer TIE pilots’ black ones. Other than that, however, they are quite disappointing! Only six Imperials, only one officer, that kriffing reused inaccurate Vader (this is two ANH-specific sets that we have gotten without a new torso print for Vader!), and no BD-1 for Cal.

Lord Vader, the battle station plans are not aboard this ship, and no transmissions were made. An escape pod was jettisoned during the fighting, but no life forms were aboard.

This is for Praji, who appears in the ISD. I am curious about the 1984 quote, since it does not appear to be referring to this set. 🤔

Could be referencing the gift w/purchase hallway "battle pack", but we've already known about that for some time.

Yeah, I like the model itself, but this is a laughable figure selection.

You really expect me to believe we couldn't get one named Imperial? Not Piett, not Needa, not even Ozzel. At least give us two of each trooper type, Noah's Ark style

I think everyone's customs (both purist and otherwise) were better Cals than the actual Lego attempt, which is wild.

Ah, that makes more sense.

I'm sorry, the WHAT?

I really don't get why we couldn't get two stormies/two navy troopers/etc. It feels like we used to always get two of a kind for larger sets- or three in some more recent ones!

Though this does seemingly disprove the Tarkin interpretation of the 1984 hint, unless he's in the death star vs tie set.

And Tarkin and Veers (in multiple outfits!) have both been in non-UCS sets in the last decade.

I know you're not the only person who feels this way (And I prefer the old helmets too, I just don't care much overall), but lego's not going back. It's unrealistic to expect upcoming sets to revert to the old helmet, the 2019 mold is here to stay. It's been half a decade.

The Tantive IV add-on set, which I think is a future gift with purchase. Comes with three Rebels and three Stormtroopers.

I think you mean X-Wing , and that is a good possibility.

Could we get a proper updated Biggs?

To be fair, this one is barely any smaller than the 2014 model, and actually costs slightly less when adjusted for inflation. Plus we have 7 figures here, literally an increase from 2014's 6. Sure there are subjective things one could argue, but the value here isn't really worse than the previous set.

I thought the three rebels three stormtrooper thing was the rumor for the set that was formerly just known as like "anniversary set" that comes with R2-KT? If it is what you said, my R2-KT set prediction is way off-

I did but now I'm gonna pretend I didn't.

All I'm going to hope for right now is that there's a second red squadron pilot. It would be wonderful if it was a new Biggs, or even a Wedge or Porkins with a unique face, but so long as it's a member of Red Squadron I'll be happy.

Edit: Anyone else confused by the advent calander? It feels like being 24 years of star wars, and them saying the gifts represented each year or something, it'd be one build per year with one exception. There is some support for this- Obviously the X-wing is '99 and the TIE is '01, Palp's shuttle is 2010, the jedi shuttle is 2011, sail barge is 2013, etc. Luke and Leia can be fill-ins for any year. But the praetorian and the YJA red ship are both 2024, which means it's not one per year?

All I've heard is that they'll be in chronological order.

I do like the exterior detail added on this one  although it does make it look beefier, it’s mostly the nose, it should be a bit longer and in turn is making the bridge look bigger and is kind of throwing off the proportions. While I understand it’s a normal destroyer the figure selection is kind of boring?Should’ve given Praji his sideburns to distinguish him more he’s a bit bland. The engine area looks a lot better/more refined, backend of the interior looks much better but I feel like they could do more. The bridge unfortunately doesn’t look like they’ve built on the FO bridge which imo is by far the best design sleek, good space for figs just needed imperial coloring.

Just noticed the carrying handle having its own compartment which is nice.

My thoughts on the Star Destroyer.

Pros:
1, The exterior look clean.

2, The officer is a new rank and character.

3, Crewmen and Death Star troopers who haven’t been seen for 5 years are included.

4, Cal has a unique face print that captures his scars really well.

5, The interior at the back is nice and deep. (It also looks clean) there’s also a nice battle hologram.

6, The handle is concealed which is a excellent feature.

Cons:

1, Cal Kestis doesn’t even come with BD-1, a poncho or arm printing! (I swear they spent only gave Fives arm printing because it was already used on Rex. They obviously spent all the cloth budget on Fives and Saw!) He should at the very least come with BD-1 or a Holocron.

2, Only six figures (granted this is the norm but the Leakers really spoiled it for me they could have at least included another stormtrooper or crewman. (Stormtrooper is understandable though as there are 3 coming in the R2 KT set so you can make a patrol if you put the two together.))

3, The bridge looks a little stripped down compared to the 2014 and FO star destroyers.

Pros out-way the Cons and is easily my favourite set of the year.

Sauce?

I would love it if that’s the case. We need some more stormtroopers. Escape pod room and Hot-Tub based off the Lego games? (If so please let it include both stormtrooper armour and alternate swimsuit bodies)

Agreed. However, as I stated before 3 stormtroopers are showing up in the R2 KT set. We usually see 4 troopers in a patrol.
I still don’t see why they couldn’t have included either: another crewman, Death Star Trooper, Stormtrooper or even a reused Rae Sloane.

There is one good thing about the ISD being this small, I’m still going to buy it because I still think it looks phenomenal and I can put my Endor commando poncho on Cal, and that is a MIDI-scale Venator which is quite likely next year IMO could easily be in scale with the ISD.

Anyway, all in all, it’s an excellent build and figure selection IMO. I think we were just let down by the Leakers. I now eagerly await R2 KT set news and January 2025 rumours. (Please let there be a stormtrooper battlepack!)

In my opinion, the new ISD is fine. It may be a little smaller than previous versions, but the overall look and construction is good. The figures are a bit disappointing. In a set of this size, the selection and quality of figures could be greater. Darth Vader is a cool figure, but has been heavily overused in sets in recent years. An Imperial officer in a black uniform is quite rare, so it's nice to see him here too. Gunner, Technician and Imperial Navy also don't appear often so I'm glad they were included, although they could have doubled some of them. It's nice that chin-strap heads are available in other skin tones. Extra stormtroopers are always nice, you can never have too many of them. Cal Kestis is a very basic figure. BD-1 and the poncho were as integral accessories to him as the lightsaber. It would also be nice to see maybe an Imperial astromech or a mouse droid here.

This is not a purchase for the first day, but maybe for May the 4th 2025, if there will be a nice promo or discount.

It was great seeing him, though! That really was the highlight for the entire TotE for me :sweet:

So, the Star Destroyer...
The ship itself looks rather bulky, somehow? Not too bad, but still kinda off.
The minifigures are so and so. Cal Kestis looks rather bland, he really needs a poncho and it sucks BD-1 isn't there, too.

The addition of Commander Praji however
For now, it looks like I'll be BL-ing those two minifigures, at some point, nothing more.

The ISD looks good, my issue is that it doesn’t really feel like it’s bringing anything new to the table. The 2006 version had an escape pod with a built in feature to deploy it. The 2014 Star Destroyer was the first to incorporate the command bridge. The First Order Star Destroyer even managed to include a small turbolift. They could have included a mini Tanitive IV or Imperial Shuttle or just something - to make this version feel a bit more distinctive and stand out a bit more.

I like the ISD quite a bit, even though the minifig selection is not quite as exquisit as initially thought  Love the Cal Kestis minifig! Sure, no poncho or BD-1, but I didn‘t expect either of those. After all, he had neither in that video recently

Also, Renown‘s hint must refer to something else then! I knew he wouldn‘t do that just for Tarkin

This just feels like more of the same, the death star playset would've been slightly new, I don't actually own any star destroyers but this isn't much different from the last few.

Who’s the more foolish: the fool or the fool who follows him?, so on that note is it just me or are the leakers more off base than usual this year?

-We've had the anniversary figures confusions, this set ( both figs and the actual model), Garmadon rumoured for the dragonstone shrine, quicksilver and Ultron rumoured for the marvel wave, Wu rumoured to be in the temple city, Koska rumoured to be in the Mando BP, a BtAS wave rumoured when it was just one set (plus the D2C), someone mixing up Orcs and Orges, Panaka and Padmé both being rumoured for the Sith Infiltrator and there's more I'm sure.

Is the Onyx Cinder still coming in August? I feel like we usually don't get sets that long before the release of a show, and unless I've missed something, skeleton crew is going to be christmas 2024 at the earliest.

Difficult to see; always in motion is the future

Maybe? We'll know by August I guess. In an ideal world they'd have replaced with some Accolyte sets but it's definitely easier to delay a product than rush it.

Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose. It would be nice but I think this comment is pure copium.

And if you want some copium from me, then wouldn't it be nice if the dark Falcon was the set with 12 figs, considering the random and wild nature of what's been rumoured it could include anyone even characters from both the Legends and Canon extended universe.

There are some things far more frightening than death

I mean compared to recent hint about the officer in the ISD the Tarkin conclusion was a little convoluted, maybe its just a brainwashing related character like Hemlock, Pershing or Bor Gullet.

Or maybe I'm just saying that because I have the Tarkin from the last time he appeared in Tie versus pack and id rather someone new. ( Though not in the Starfighter versus pack, I'm kinda hoping the figs are nothing to write home about there, because I already have both ships)

(  Please note that is this context I'm saying brainwashing could be more frightening than death, not that I'm afraid of Lego Tarkin)

The dark side clouds everything. Impossible to see the future is.

Don't think it was said be a GWP, just a limited regular set, like last year's Christmas Falcon set. ( I do wish we got more ship interior sets like that, I'd have targeted an ISD bridge than the exterior).

6 hours ago, Lordhelmet said:

I am wondering if there were originally plans to do a Death Star set that were scrapped (maybe Yavins counterpart but sales for Yavin were not good - but really because of execution).  The minifig selection looks like it belongs in a Death Star not an ISD (Vader and stormtrooper are generic to any imperial set) but I don’t think we see the Death Star gunner or Death Star (army) trooper outside the Death Star.  The black hat crew members show up in both ISDs and the Death Star but are more visible in the Death Star than an ISD.  There should be at least one Navy officer for an ISD vs. the clearly Death Star figs.

I have a very bad feeling about this.

I hope not, that would be quite illogical, as there are many reasons why people would be more interested in a death star playset over a Yavin one.

Thanks Lego for saving me 160 for not getting a Death Star playset with a dozen figures which is actually an ISD with half and no decent minifigures.

maybe this a hot take but I’m kind of fed up of getting Darth Vader in every single imperial set (I have the same opinion for Luke as well especially Red 5 Luke)

They usually change the helmet every 4-7 years. In 2014, they introduced the family guy version in the Star Destroyer. That's why I hoped they would introduce a better version now. What sucks is that, because of covid, people not buying the sets with these new stormtroopers couldn't really be felt by LEGO financially. This is because we got an influx of new collectors, investors, and hipsters that just filled the void people boycotting the sets left, so LEGO didn't really have an incentive to change it. Wouldn't be the craziest thing to expect a new improved helmet alongside a battle pack in the next 2 years.
Version 1: 2001-2005 4 years
Version 2: 2006-2013 7 years
Version 3: 2014-2019 5 years

The previous version was 61 studs long, while this one is 55, making it 6 studs shorter in length, therefore smaller. This difference translates to 4.8 cm, or 1.89 inches. Which is significant. The bridge remained the same, making the proportions off and leaving the model looking chubby/stubby. Interior is also much better in the older version. They also used a part of the budget last time to make a holographic Palpatine so I would take that plus a mouse droid build (that counts as a minifigure on bricklink for some reason) over the Imperial Gunner.
2006 version also had more figures, was bigger and cost only $100 which is $154 with inflation now.

I think a lot of people are judging this set based off incorrect rumours rather than what they see.

Did not realise Commander Praji was named on the box art! Speaking of box art, on the back of the box what planet is it meant to represent?

Overall, this is a pretty good set. I think I’d have liked to see another figure and a mouse droid. Set itself looks really strong, I just hope its size doesn’t look too bad. Definitely one that peaks my interest. Not overly keen on Cal.

Oh whoops  My memory fails me yet again!! Still, I wouldn‘t have expected BD-1 to be included since all the other anniversary minifigs represent one character while this would‘ve been two. …Watch me be proven wrong yet again in a few weeks by the young Leia minifig coming with Lola :laugh_hard:

Overall there seems to be a lot of conflicting info floating around lately. Presumably Lego's anti-leak department is in full swing; I can see the department head, their monitor screen illuminating a hooded face while they read forums such as this, cackling "good, goooood..." This whole run around makes me want to worry much less about rumours and just wait until the reveals (or at least credible visual info) and hopefully be pleasantly surprised.

Personally I like the look of the Star Destroyer - although I'm biased as I don't have any earlier iterations. Shaping looks good and greebling much improved over previous versions. Figures are what they are, nothing special but fit the bill for the ship that they're on. Could have done without Vader (does he every actually appear on a regular ISD?) and definitely a second Stormtrooper and probably Imperial crew member would have been welcome.

Hey good catch I missed this.  Happy they named him,  we are now up to Veers, Tarkin, Piett, Yularen, and Praji.  Now we only have around 12 to go.  Good to see another named officer from the OT.  Definitely worth a bricklink, I may consider the set but on sale.
